Duke goes down!

Anyone know what he was thinking at this very moment?

Fetch me my cheeses!

That doesn't seem healthy. I'm sure you can take care of yourself. I personally just wish / hope sports (entertainment) can be put in perspective. I mean, go back and read Bleed's and my comments, Archer's, DSouther's..... its a game.

If we won by 30, lost by 30, or even lost 3 players for the season to injury, I don't know how that would mean one thing to even the biggest Heels fan in the world, in terms of real life stuff. I've lost a sibling as a teenager, many close friends, have had disappointments at work, have had my kids go through struggles..... suffice it to say, those weigh infinitely more on me in terms of grief, pain, etc. than the accumulation of all bad sports losses.

Or think of it this way.... say Duke beat UNC, and has owned the rivalry the last 5 years or so. And you worry about what? Say - a Dookie fan talking junk to you? or some slacker announcer talking junk? So what?! Again, Duke winning every game for the rest of all time does NOT ONE THING in terms of making Dookie fan a better person in real life and in things that matter. Same can be said if UNC won all their games. Or if UNC lost every game. Does that make a Heels fan a lesser, worse person.

OT - If you lived close to Green Bay Packer fans - like I do - they are the worst in this regard. I actually DO BELIEVE a good number of them tie what they are- in terms of what defines them as people, how complete of a person they are, and what they contribute to society - all this rests on whether GB wins or loses. It literally is some of their entire identity. Talk about delusional and out of touch with reality and perspective.

Absolutely my man, it is nothing but a basketball game and a regular season game at that. Of course I and we all wanted that win because we all have passion in our love for UNC basketball, else it wouldn't matter enough to go out of our way to post after a game. But perspective is important.

People are killed in Europe over the out come of soccer matches, I will NEVER how or why the out come of a game ends in such things. Heck, even in the states, how many times have stores on streets near college campuses been trashed after great WINS? I don't understand such things, our perspective is severely flawed.

Marcus Paige for example, I saw him trashed by many many Tar Heel fans over the last few days but how any of us can honestly believe that duke loss hurt us more than it hurt Marcus just blows my mind. That is a what, 21yr old kid doing the best he can to help his team win a basketball game where the stakes are many millions of times larger for him than any one of us. Do any of us pretend to know what it is like to walk one day in Marcus's shoes, especially when things are not going well for him in these games? i STRONGLY doubt we have even a near frame of reference that we can call on but this 21yr old kid gets trashed because his jump shot did not fall in a circle 10ft above a hard wood floor? A great kid to by the way, a kid that has NEVER done a single thing but represent this program or school in the best manner possible and we go looking for a tall tree and a length of rope? Excuse me if I take exception to that, how would you feel if Marcus were your son? Tell ya how I would feel, I would be VERY PROUD of that young man and I would hurt for him rather than hate on him.

I have spent 45+ years in love with UNC basketball, no matter what happens this season that will not change but there are MUCH more important things in this life for me. My best bud here is a dukie, he hates UNC with as much passion as I love them with and I had to spend 3hrs each day in a car with him last week and 8hrs a day sitting next to him in a class last week and he drilled the hell out of me in good natured fun without stop Thur & Fri. But the most important thing about all of that was both he & I did well in our class and we could not be happier for each other. I will be spending the day with him today matter of fact working on our presentation and rather than hating that dukie, I want him primed and ready to go out tomorrow and make some really good money and gurantee ya he wants nothing more than for me to do the same the next day. PERSPECTIVE !

Haha, now their board is up in arms over Vitale. Saying he's annoying. Their biggest fan is annoying? Haha. How do they stand themselves! They suck at being fans.

Oh almost forgot. OFC.

So suppose you're a little douchebag like Allen, and you're a really good high school basketball player. You want to be recruited by UNC, or UVA, or Kansas. Do those coaches look at you and say "I'm sorry, son, but everyone knows that you're kind of a tool, and that means you have to go to dook, and be part of the rat's tool box."

The odds of k getting all these little punks are so slim there has to be some sort of organized douchebag magnet program going on there.

Is there any doubt in your mind that Allen would have been shooting two FT's on that last play? There's none in mine.
Absolutely.

I don't know if that would have changed the outcome but it might have.

It pisses me off that I actually felt sorry for Duke in that game.

Let me get this straight. Our losses mean something but dook's losses don't? And their wins mean something but ours don't? Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the results mean we're now two games up in both the win and the loss column. That may not mean anything to you but it does to the NCAA Committee, as well as most UNC fans.
I'm curious. Do the committee folks take injuries in individual games into consideration? Or do they have too many teams and games to deal with to drill down that way.

I'm thinking here of Duke being without Matt Jones. Jones will presumably be back the next game. So does the committee discount this loss?

Or is it just numbers and market share and payoffs?

Yes and No is the only answer I can give ya. If it is a game changer player that is injured then yeah, to an extent they will consider it just not sure I would label Jones as a game changer type of player.

Thanks for the input.

In a similar vein, I can imagine Syracuse being on the bubble. Would the committee be likely to say "well, they would have won a couple more games with Boeheim at the helm" - and tip the balance in their favor?

Cuse has banned themselves from post season play so that argument is all for naught.

Geez dude, what the heck are you smoking? Slow down and read his comments carefully. He's saying that college basketball games mean NOTHING in the overall framework of life .... that there are far more important things to be upset about, such as life tragedy - stuff that REALLY matters.

I think you know this but you want to continue to pick a fight. Just move on, very few people agree with your bizarre point of view.

OK cool. You're right. That usually gets my fiancee to shut up.

Not really, early season results tend to just be considered by strength of schedule and things like players or coaches out are not that big a factor early season, those things tend to weight heavier the later they go in to the season. We will not get extra credit for being the first team that Bohiem was back to coach either, it will stand only on the win and nothing more.

And none of this is a huge point, maybe a consideration if 2 teams are seen as dead even and you are looking for anything at all to seperate them. Strength of schedule is the huge factor.
