...originally posted in another thread --- decided to start a separate topic:

Made a point of watching a good bit of quite a few games post-facto (I love having ESPN3, ACCNx and SECNx on my Sling), and KU is as good as you'll see but no one is markedly better than other top teams --- plus all teams are works-in-progress even as far as scouting (most of that gets done during holiday events anyway).

Early impressions just from what I've seen:
- KU is legit, and so are we. In fact, if the staff will make the proper tweaks, we can be better.
- Gonzaga was a dadgummed juggernaut in slamming Baylor then turned around and damn near lost to a blah Arizona State team at home --- Zags are loaded on offense (and have the rare PG who's in Cadeaus's league) but struggle defensively (as Mark's recent teams have seemed to do).
- Houston is vintage Sampson thug-ball, but Auburn took them down at Houston.
- Speaking of AU, they're friggin scary if they're clicking
- AZ still has Caleb and an elite PG in Bradley and a buttload of incoming firepower
- bama is loaded again, but with the caveat that they have Oates
- I've seen just enough of dook to be (once again) not be as impressed as the fawning media, but they added Flagg and a shooter and a rangy Big with enough size to be a problem. Games with them will be the usual wars.
- I have not seen MIch State yet so I don't know what Izzo has this year, and just a little bit of uk --- so yeah, I'll be paying attention tonight

BTW, an early dark horse team nobody wants to play is North Florida. They've already beaten S.Carolina and GaTech on the road (and Tech ain't half bad) --- ain't gonna scare anybody at the airport but are matchup hell. Will be interesting to see what they do at UGA tonight...

Great matchups in the Champion's classic. Sparty and Kansas are banging. Kentucky/Dook will be interesting. I had 3 plays tonight, I don't play parlays without an odds boost. Added North Florida plus the 15.5. Hope your thinking highly off them is spot on.

Izzo is freakin brilliant! MSU is tiring but they are giving KU all they can handle. Izzo had Dickenson spinning in place with his sets but they are losing their legs and shooting everything short now, so I expect KU to win. No juggernauts mean our team has a real chance once we really click!

Hey sorry. Looks like they ran outta gas tonight. 3s not going down.

Tell ya what, being totally honest with y'all, our game with Kansas was played at a higher level than uk-dook.

Pope inherited a team with basically no returning players and flipped the roster in a few months via the portal. He pulled in talented upperclassmen that were good on their previous team and their experience prevailed against Dook’s freshmen.

I am truly sick of Colonel Flagg! He is good but not a game changer on the pro level imo. As for now, I think we will have more trouble with Mariachi and Knipple! Right now, Face is so enamored with his shiny toy he lets him try to win in hero mode. In the midst of the Kentuck run, nobody is talking about Col Flagg's multiple turnovers! BTW: Knipple is the new flopmeister and will most likely become the face of hate!

BTW: I loved watching the team the media slobbers over lose is such demoralizing fashion!

Just going to say it, Scheyer is very over rated. Look, you get multiple 5 stars hand delivered to you every season of course you are going to win a heck of a lot of games, gary's "trained chicken" could do that! Literally face could just roll the ball out and go to dinner with his wife (ala Calipari) with that kind of talent. But let them have to face a solid opponent that may not have the talent level but is well coached, one that hits them in the mouth the same way they like to hit others, the wilt. Scheyer is a glorified baby sitter for future NBA first round picks, same as Caliapri. All that length, no starter shorter than 6'6" and I see Ky driving to the basket, I see wide open jumpers splashed, I see that same ole duke defense.

Maluch and Flagg do inject a defensive threat doing what they were already doing before coming to duke. But when it got down to the most important part of the game, who was it again that gave up 2 crucial turn overs that cost the dukies that game, the face of ESPN, Flagg. Why, cause maybe your 6'9" star shouldn't be taking the ball the length of the court only to drive to the coffin corner and fumble it away. Maybe a coach should have called something different than that.

All I heard going in to this game was how great K'snipple had been playing, last night, K'sNipple got pierced, wonder if Micky thinks it is cute? LOL

On a more serious note, talking to my duke buddy yesterday, we agreed, Flagg is good, he is darn good but if I had the first pick in the next NBA draft my pick would be Budinga, Bill Self has a future super star there, the raw talent on that kid is mind numbing. Flagg would be my #2 pick and Maluuuuuuuch would be in my top 5 (I can just see Maluch in the NBA waving his finger shouting "no no no no no" like Mutumbo! LOL

Dang, D -K'snipple-LOLOL! I was close with just Knipple but you nailed it. He is the new dirty leg kicker/flopper while Col. Flagg is the dont you dare breathe on our poster boy! Whoever guards Col starts the game with 2 fouls but the kid will not beat you with athleticism.

Wonder how long before K'sNipple begins to FLOP ? LOL

Cooper this, Cooper that. If Face dials up iso ball all season, dook will lose to teams they
should beat. Pope saw those plays coming and defended them well. Their bench didn’t
contribute much either as they choked with a ten point second half lead.
Said it already, but bears repeating --- Scheyer is what he is.
His late-games situational calls are lazy and predictable, i.e., he's gonna iso the guy he considers his star, without any real set-up or movement, and beg for a foul call.
He did it with Flopowski for 2 years and we watched it blow up in his face, and last night he did it with a 17 yr-old kid who's still getting his feet wet in college ball. SMH.
