I love seeing a network that portrays itself as very aware of offensive conduct having to backtrack and apologize like this.

The graphic was pretty dumb from the outset, with Confederate and Union soldiers apparently on the same team of protecting Luck. But it seems like the part everyone is offended by is the song Dixie being played. I find it hard to get offended over a lyric-less flute tune, but maybe that's just me... is a little flute riff enough to trigger you?

Shame that we live in such a PC environment but Espn has to know better. I do hope more people start to push back like Louis CK.

How has Louis CK pushed back... by continuing to do his non-PC material? I heard he was under fire for some Parkland jokes but didn't read much more into it.

I think what South Park has done with PC Principal and the PC babies has been awesome, and hopefully shows people how ridiculous some of it is. A lot of jokes need to be somewhat offensive to be funny. The key is knowing when it's a joke and not getting all up in arms over it.

He's not bowing down. He is gonna do comedy that pushes the boundaries.

THIS bothered people? It makes no sense at all, frankly. There are Rebel troops fighting with Union troops. It's a weird graphic, and an even more stupid idea to try and convey the statistic. The song being played is hardly worth being the focus of the outrage.

Hey, folks! There was a Civil War in America. It was pretty fvcking severe. There were two sides, both comprised of Americans. There were songs from the war as well. The song "Dixie" is a very popular, and instantly recognizable song from the war. You know what Abraham Lincoln's favorite song was? DIXIE! No shit. Whenever you see a modern reference to the Civil War, you might hear music from the same time. It kinda makes it authentic.

I even sat through this, trying to find out what was bothering everyone:

That was 1) Not clever 2) Not funny 3) very well produced... which is why the first two are true... maybe.

I loathe that word - woke.

Here is more millennial speak that might get you a smack in the mouth if used around me:

- "swag"
- "yaaaasss"
- "turnt"
- anything "AF"
- "lit"
- "so extra"
- "hundo P"
I'm going to keep it a buck with you. It sounds like you're a little cray cray. You'd feel gucci if you would go sip on some lean.

I’m still just wondering who these people actually are... Have any of you ever actually met one of these pc police folks? Almost everyone I know makes fun of them, but somehow they dominate the internet.

Not that I know of. Maybe they're a species that only exists on the interwebz.

Like hark said, those people may only exist on the internet. But I think it would be remiss to not acknowledge that the left is ultimately responsible for the PC culture. It's largely the left's ideology that has been radicalized to that point.

The actual Capt Andrew Luck twitter account is funny as hell. ESPN get an F for trying to cash in on that idea.

I'm 35. Is 1983 in the millennial space? I consider people in their 20s millennials and I geniuenly have nothing in common with them.

With all generations, there really aren't hard dates that sociologists go with but typically, if you were born in the early 80s to about the year 2000, then you're considered a millennial. But I hear you and from what I've seen of your poasts, I'd probably agree that you don't really fit the mold. Do you have older siblings? Because I've noticed that barely millennials with older siblings from Gen X are less likely to have the traits of a true millennial.

You notice correctly, I'm the youngest of 5.

I have, but I don't think it's as widespread as it seems. I just think they're a loud minority that gets a lot of play from both sides of the media, one of which puts them on a pedestal, and the other which reviles them. Social media has given people the opportunity to get really loud about their opinions.

My mother's name is Dixie. No shit.

When I was a kid, I used to think that song by The Band was directed at my mom... I only understood the chorus; "The Night They Drove Ol Dixie Down."

I mean, Tar Heels is a South Civil War reference. Will they eventually make you guys change your name? It's getting silly.
That's not a direct Civil War reference. Tar and heels came together much earlier than the Civil War. And besides that it has no reference to slavery. It's reference to the pine trees that are in abundance in North Carolina.

Gotcha. I just know they called military units from NC "Tarheels" because of how hard they were to push back.

That was a secondary reference. They were already called Tar Heels. But, as I understand it they used that reference to compliment themselves, if you will.

True story and every time some ABCer calls our nickname "racist" and mockingly presumes it is only a matter of time before we are pressured into changing it, I want to kick them squarely in the nuts for being so stupid.

I took my girlfriend to San Fransisco at the end of August, mainly to catch the game in Berkeley on Sept. 1. Midway through probably the second quarter the Cal fan in front of us politely asked, "What is a Tar Heel?" It's not the easiest question to answer and I think he completely lost interest when I answered that it goes back to the importance of tar and pitch as naval stores in the 19th century in North Carolina . . . yada, yada.

Hey, if someone really wants to know the answer, look it up on your phone, dammit.

Yeah, it's not a typical mascot name. The Ram is actually the mascot. And, that requires explanation as well. It's too convoluted for people to find it to be in poor taste.
