Led Zeppelin is one of my top 5 rock and roll bands of all time. They have so many great songs that it's hard to name a favorite but I think mine might be "Since I Been Loving You", a song that didn't garner nearly as much PT as some of their others. Having played guitar since I was a little boy, I love great guitar solos. A friend just recently turned me on to a fantastic version of this song with an absolutely incredible guitar performance by a 15 year old girl. I thought you might enjoy this, Strum. What's your favorite Zeppelin song?

I have a few I listen to regularly. No Quarter, Since I've Been Loving You, The Rain Song, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused... damn, I know what I'm doing today. Thanks! xoxo

I wouldn't say I'm a big Zeppelin fan - so my favorites are probably the more popular songs of theirs. My favorite is probably Ramble On followed by Kashmir.

I'm sorry for my above poast and I really don't mean to rain on your thread parade, but I just can't help it. When I say "classic rock sucks," Led Zeppelin is the exact band that comes to mind.

Out of curiosity, how old are you? I know music is very subjective, but I don't know many people who agree with you when you say "classic rock sucks". Most of the young people I know have said they would have loved to have seen Zeppelin, The Who, The Allman Brothers, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, The Stones, Santana, Jethro Tull, Jeff Beck, ELP, The Band, Deep Purple, Steely Dan, Marshall Tucker, Credence, and I could go on and on. There will never be a decade that even approaches the 70's for great rock and roll, but that's just my opinion of course. I know many young people who listen to this music regularly, 40 years later and it's still relevant. And time is the ultimate test.

Name one band from today that people will still be listening to 40 years from today. I don't think I can. Anyway, sorry you don't like the thread. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say.

You really don't like Classic Rock? Wow, I didn't think a person like that existed.
You must be new here. @TarHeelNation11 doesn't like anything that came out before November.

Are you restricting this list to rock music? Also, what do you mean when you say "today"? Would a band that came out in the 90's still be considered a band from "today" or are you referring to bands that have come out in the past 10 years or so?

Definitely belongs in the OLD people thread. I know Pink Floyd. That count?

There are a few, very few, decent bands around now but as for longevity I think you might be right. The 1975 is a decent band right now. ;)

You know, you are basically doing the exact same thing these young guys are doing except in reverse right?
Old posters: older music is awesome, new music sucks
Young posters: new music is awesome, older music sucks
@TarHeelNation11: I hate everything

Sorry it's just MY opinion. I'm not saying you have to agree. ;)

I happen to like some new music just not as much as the old. I love hearing new stuff just to see if I like it

I can talk about and listen to Led Zep all day long . . love that band.

Heres one song that doesn't get a lot of air time thats a fav of mine . .

Also a favorite of mine, Billy. Some of their more mellow, introspective songs didn't get as much air time, but are some of their best.

Well, the 90's is 2 decades ago. I can name a handful of bands from that era that I think will endure. But for quality as well as quantity, the 70's were the pinnacle of rock and roll music. And yes, I was speaking of rock and roll.

I'm gonna answer this in stages. Firstly, I'm the tender age of 27.

There are some young people who know today's music well and just legitimately like classic rock better; I'm not arguing that. However, for every one of those people, there are five young people who like classic rock better than today's music because they think it makes them cool. They can say "well classic rock is just BETTER" because they think it makes them worldly, or cultured, or whatever other bullshit. I have no tolerance for those type of people.

Name one band from today that people will still be listening to 40 years from today. I don't think I can. Anyway, sorry you don't like the thread. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say.
I can't name any that YOU would listen to 40 years from now, but there are plenty of bands from today and recent times that people will listen to 40 years from now. Is that a joke?

**now for my rant**
Older people think today's music sucks because all they know about today's music is Bruno Mars, Carrie Underwood, and The Weekend. I can recommend you 20+ bands off the top of my head that you would love (or at least enjoy), but you've probably heard of less than 4 of the 20 I'd recommend.

Why? Because today's Top 40 is pop, R&B, rap, and pop country. What was Top 40 in the 1970s and 60s? It was bands that would become known as classic rock. That's the only difference. Older folks (and younger folks who are too lazy or ignorant to find good music from today) think current music sucks because all they hear is really, really shitty Top 40 music. There is a whole slew of excellent music out there, you just have to dig a little to find it because there are more avenues for recording/distributing music today than there ever was in Led Zeppelin's time.

I know, but some people would consider bands from the 90's also bands of today since some of them still put out music and are popular. If you're saying bands of the last 10 years or so I would say that it is too soon to tell what kind of impact their music would have.

I believe you. My girls introduce me to lots of music I would otherwise never have heard of. Some I like and some I don't. I'm glad we can like whatever we want to.

Exactly, Chick. I am constantly expanding my musical tastes. Every decade has produced some quality music, some more than others. It helps that I like almost any kind of music: R&R, Blues, Jazz, Blue Grass, Country, Classical, Folk, etc...
