We didn’t have to play Elliott the whole damn year. Fortin and Ruder were much better options. I don’t think we would have won 8 games but 6 was certainly attainable, even with the injuries and suspensions.
Wrong.

Chazz won the starting job in camp. Suspensions hurt him. Fortin and Ruder were true freshmen. As soon as Chazz got hurt, they went with Fortin. As soon as Fortin got hurt, they started prepping Ruder. He got hurt. There are only so many reps for QB1 and QB2 to get in practice.

Fortin looked significantly better than Surratt. His arm is stronger and he showed more poise.
Not really. Everyone forgets how good Surratt looked out of the gate before he and his line got hurt. Despite multiple concussions and deep bone bruise, he still had much better numbers than Fortin. He did look bad against Miami but that was his first live football in about a year in a pretty tough environment.

Surratt didn't understand how to read the defense and make the right decisions. I think he was an 6-8 wins a year QB.

Can't really make that decision based off of a limited sample size. He hasn't even played a full season's worth of games. That takes time.

I’m the first to admit I was never a huge fan of Fedora. That being said, it’s got to feel like a punch in the gut to see us hire a replacement so quickly which tells him we were already moving and shaking behind his back. It’s a reality in this business though.

I just didn't see anything from him to suggest that he would be anything more than average. Fortin and Ruder both look like they can get us to the ACC championship game. That's just the feeling I get.

I would suggest you go back and watch more of him.

1. Ruder is bursting with talent, but we had a very small sample size. I think he can be a pro. But he threw what, 5 passes? He missed badly on 2 deep balls, but ARW bailed him out on one. His two out routes were good, but nothing special. His TD pass was a big time throw.

2. Fortin still looks really raw. He just has a much stronger arm and had a few nice passes, but NC State isn't good.

My point is that Chazz is much better than what people seem to remember. He certainly had a better grasp of the offense than Fortin or Ruder.

Overall, I rank them in order of talent as Ruder, Chaz, Fortin.

Yeah, he would make a great WR though wouldn't he? He's a shifty runner. But his decision-making at QB leaves a lot to be desired.
Shifty with excellent speed - nearly perfect open field running.

He shows little talent for reading pass defenses, little potential for passing better than low average to any part of the field. If he were the QB in the type spread that RichRod ran at WVU, with an RB as fast and good as Slaton and an FB as large and great at blocking and running between the tackles as Schmidt, with a good OL and tall and athletic WRs, like WVU had, then Surratt as QB could look as good as White did and win as much, assuming the D to be as good as what WVU had when White played QB.

Sage Surratt runs very good routes and has excellent hands. But he is not as quick and shifty a runner as Chazz. If Chazz can catch and learn to run clean routes like his brother, he might become a better WR.

elliot was better than surratt.

my vote was no, shocked that we bit the 12M bullet.
not shocked we hired mack.
ambivalent though.
