For the Drinkers: I need advice on my brother's drinking, please.

Right. The 16 oz cans are "tall boys", the 22 oz cans are "double deuces" and the 24 oz cans don't get a nickname. Because who drinks those things anyway. The beer gets hot by the bottom of it.

But with that said, there seems to be some confusion.

I think we need to declare what a "tall boy" actually is. What say you, OOTB?

Did we ever clear up this "Tall Boy" issue?

It's interesting how we view suicide. If you do it quickly and rather painlessly, like with a shotgun or whatever, that is considered horrific and tragic. If you do it slowly and methodically, and die from a prolonged illness that your chosen behavior directly contributed to, or even absolutely caused- but the effects didn't surface for maybe a few decades- that's not as bad. I guess because someone could make money off of you during that whole process.

To me, 24 oz is a Tall Boy.

Giant difference, IMO. People smoke or drink or eat comfort food to help them cope with life and keep on living.

People kill themselves to stop living.

Every man dies... not every man truly lives (WW). You're in a living death with those habits, IMO. Of course, it's all mental and relative. But, make no mistake, those behaviors are killing you*. I think that's what made me stop at a young age. I tried it, "enjoyed it" and jumped-off before it could do any long-term damage. Consciously contributing to my demise, and making sure it's likely to be expensive, painful and degenerative, makes me automatically act-out the opposite. It's like a fine-tuned self-preservation mechanism. Then again, I already know how my body will expire. I'm in a unique position, I guess.

ETA: *Those behaviors are damaging your body*

The strangest part to all of this to me is a 42 year old that still drinks Jager bombs. Haven't touched one of those since I was like 25.

Man, I don't know how you guys can drink every night and still feel healthy. I'm 34 and I drink MAYBE twice a month during the week and usually one night every weekend...and if it's a Saturday, I still feel like shit Monday morning.

It works. That's his "fix." I don't know how the mixture of such a thing ever comes into the brain of a person to even consider consuming, let alone pour into your body! To me, it's like seeing anti-freeze and thinking "What kinda buzz can I cop from smoking this somehow?"

Tolerance. When I was still drinking I could literally drink a case of beer every night no problem. Fortunately I quit before it really caught up to me. Now I catch a brutal hangover if I have more than a few drinks. So tomorrow is probably going to suck.

a case a night??? mutherfvcker!

My habits have changed as I've gotten older. When I was in college I drank liquor like it was water. I could make an Irishman look sober. Once I graduated and got a real job I cut back to something like just the weekends, but rarely got drunk. Now that I have kids I almost never drink.

I was a full blown alcoholic at 17. After I lost my dad I went totally off the handle. 24+ beers a night, 5+ nights a week. Then I'd drive home.

I'm not really sure how anyone could push it any further than I did and come out alive

Is your hair the same style, length, etc.?

I hope you've branched-out with a different coif from, at least, your childhood.

Maybe it's the musician thing for me. Or, maybe because I have hair...
I used to have more of a buzz cut when I was young, but it's been pretty much the same style since high school. Maybe a little longer when I was in school.

I love beer but will probably switch for a while to liquor for a while because of the carbs. I usually have a few beers everyday. Never get drunk. Just love the taste. Going to just do a few mixed drinks on the weekends now.

Really though, it's just tolerance. If you drink every night, it becomes your new normal to not feel 100% the next day. And then after awhile, you can't tell the difference and you feel fine the next day.

It's definitely tolerance. I dunno about the hangover part.

Just reading this stuff makes me SO thankful for having the resolve to stop when I was 21!
