FSU appears to be struggling a bit and some of there flaws have been exposed the last couple of weeks. Before the season began it was a foregone conclusion that we would lose that game. Has anyone changed there position on this one? Anyone feel like FSU is beatable on the 1st?

We don't have a snowball's chance in hell of beating them on the 8th.

Now on the 1st, I think we have a shot, provided we can take care of business against Pitt and come out of that game with no more injuries. They've certainly shown that they're beatable but it would take a perfect storm for our team to do it. I don't know if we're capable of playing 60 minutes at our maximum best and that's what it would take to overcome the talent disparity, that and turning them over a few times.

Let’s just worry about Pitt right now. How we play in that game will tell us if we have any hope of beating FSU.

Thanks Archer2 I have corrected my error. LOL..... I totally agree with your take.

Yep. I'm sure the staff is having no problem keeping the team focused on Pitt after our mediocre defensive effort last week. If we don't beat Pitt, I think the chance of us going to Tallahassee and winning are slim to none. If we play well and beat Pitt, I think we have an outside shot but it would still be a long one. Our 1st string players match up fairly well but their 2nd and 3rd string depth is far superior. Far superior. That's what you develop when you can bring in top 10 classes year after year after year...

This week should tell us a lot about this team. At this point I'm still very skeptical of our chances in Tally despite their performance against Louisville. If the defense plays better and we beat Pitt by a couple scores I may change my tune a little, but for now I'm counting it as a definite loss.

That fsu team is mad as hell and focused now I don't think we win that one I think if we keep it close that's a win. Let's just beat pitt

I hope we're 100% focused on Pitt and I think we will be. I really want to win that game convincingly. As for FSU and playing them close, I'm past the point of moral victories. It's time we started winning some of those games, despite all the odds. Rise up and smite their arses. They put their pants on the same way we do. And yes, they'll be angry after their embarrassing loss to Louisville, but so what? First, let's take care of Pitt. Then let's go down to Tallahassee and make a statement.

Not a chance we beat FSU. I told you all summer we'd lose to UGA, and I'm similarly telling you now we won't beat FSU. In a weird way, I liked our chances better when they were undefeated.

Let me ask you,THN111. Is FSU not nearly as good as most thought they'd be, or is Louisville just that good? Or did a perfect storm develop and Louisville got all the momentum while FSU's freshman QB got completely rattled and it just snowballed from there?

USF is 3-0, albeit against weak comp. I'm interested to see how FSU responds to getting waxed, something they don't experience very often.

I didn't watch the UofL - FSU game because I was tailgating for the Carolina game, but I think it's a mixture of everything you said.

- Lamar Jackson is very, very fast and agile. FSU had no answer for him.
- FSU is missing their defensive leader Kerwin (?) James and from all accounts, that made a big difference.
- Louisville got momentum early and just rode it. They beat FSU in every phase of the game, including shutting down Dalvin Cook. I do think the game snowballed though into one of those games where if you're FSU, you just can't do anything right.

Louisville is forreal you'd have to say at this point. They play Clemson next week I think -- that's gonna be a marquee matchup.

That's sorta what I thought. Louisville looks like the real deal to me too. I had heard about Action Jackson's exploits and how explosive their offense was, but their defense was also very impressive.

The Louisville vs Clemson game ought to be a classic.

Yeah it's interesting how well their defense has done thus far. Todd Grantham (their DC) was seen as a bust at UGA and then Louisville hired him away for $1 million per season, which some people (myself included) looked at as crazy. Apparently, he's reinvented himself there. Ironically, he's doing well with a few players that followed him from UGA like Josh Harvey-Clemmons. Louisville has no qualms about taking guys as transfers after they run afoul of the law elsewhere [note: I have no problem with this whatsoever] as well as taking JUCOs -- the latter of which is something I really, really, really wish Carolina could do. It would be the easiest way, by far, to quickly shore up DL depth with guys who are better quality than an incoming recruit.

We would be demonstrably better up front last year and this year if we could take JUCO DT's and pass-rushers. Yes, we've brought in guys with potential like Clarke and Strowbridge and Crawford, but it takes time for those young guys to bulk up and improve via live game reps. JUCO DLmen already are the size they need to be and have plenty of in-game reps under their belt.

You'll get no argument from me.

Take nothing away from UL because they are very very good and I think they will win the ACC this year and make the playoffs if they beat Houston. Jackson is amazing ... love that kid. Having said that, we didnt give ourselves a chance with all the mistakes we made ... here is a breakdown of some of them http://www.tomahawknation.com/2016/...nsive-line-problem-fsu-louisville-receiver-qb

Again, the better team won ... in fact we flat out got our asses kicked. I think UNC can play with anyone but I think .. just like FSU, you all have some glaring holes to fill. It should be a good game ... but like some of the other posters have said , lets worry about PITT and USF first. Good luck this weekend boys!

the article above mentions FSU's offensive woes, but what about the zillion points they gave up?

Also is Dalvin Cook himself? Has he looked like the old Cook in the other games or is the OL really holding him back that much?

TarHeelNation11's prediction was that we'd lose to UGA, but we lost to ourselves ;-) So i'm giving him partial credit, and I'm giving us a fraction of a chance. As usual, it will probably be a shoot-out (last position or least turnovers wins, etc)

A lot of those mistakes stopped us and helped them ... we couldnt build any momentum or answer their scores. Petrino said they started to plan for this game last winter ... so they pretty much knew our tendencies very well with the 3/4 of a year prep. We turned the ball over a couple of times in the red zone ... there was 1 min left in the half and their WR caught a ball and ran to the red zone ... they had 2 punt return for TDs ... those were all easy scores or short field opportunities for them. We did not answer and lost bad.

Our D (under DC Kelly) seems to have a lot of trouble with dual threat QBs ... he has lost to 5 of them. Until he figures it out then he will be under pressure to get his D to perform. JMO but his D plays too soft and doesnt attack as much as we have in the past under different DCs.

Dalvin has said he is fine ... Jimbo too ... so thats all I can relay to you. I can also add that teams are loading up the box and putting pressure on our young QB ... we also have a very inexperienced right side of our OL and I think they finally changed it for this weekend. Another thing being said is that our team just isnt communicating like they should and it has led to breakdowns.

I agree totally. Butch Davis milked the heck of the JUCO talent.. See "Sly Williams".

So, how's everyone feeling after that Pitt game? Think that will get us pumped and give us momentum or is it going to be emotionally draining? FSU's defense has looked average the past couple of games, so I think we can score on them, but I'm not sure our defense can do enough to get the win. I feel better about our chances than I did before the Pitt game, but I still think we fall short of a win.

I certainly feel better about our chances after yesterday and also seeing how many points FSU is giving up lately. If we can jump out early, maybe we can limit how many touches Cook gets. It's certain to be a high scoring game.

FSU opens as a 12 point favorite. UNC must come up with an answer for the jet sweep.

I was elated , emotionally spent , sweaty (sect 109 row S) from in the sun all day , sticky from spilling my drink all over my legs and shoes as I got up to leave , still a bit worried about our rush "D" going forward , and hoarse from yelling.

The O Line better man up. They were manhandled by Pitt. Pitt setup shop in our backfield most of the day. The trenches won't get an easier in Tallahassee. Is anyone tired of the screen pass to Switzer? I know I am.Even when it hasn't been successful they keep going to it for little or no gain. I dunno maybe its a check down by Mitch. Hope Dez is alright too.. he took a shot on the big stop we got.

Should be a ton of points scored on both sides in this game. We've struggled on defense, while UNC has struggled stopping the run which is what our offense wants to do. Doesn't bode well for a defensive struggle.

think i saw my noles are 10-11 point favorites ... i will be elated with a one point win ... unc qb looks like a 5th senior ... guy is great ...

when i looked at the point spread, no over/under had been established ... got to think the over/under will be close to 80 !!!

Casual fans tend love high scoring games. So everybody should watch.

Thanks for the kudos to our QB,this game could be a toss up because both of our defenses have not been setting the world on fire.

Game is on ESPN so this is a big opportunity to make a statement in front of a huge tv audience. Everybody sees the end of the 3:30 games while waiting for the prime time games to start.

If the offense were to come out on fire and play the way they're capable of playing for four quarters then I'd like our chances. I'm calling two interceptions from the freshman QB and a PR touchdown from Switzer. 45-34 Carolina

The freshman QB is an opportunity for our D. If we can get any kind of pass pressure, and the DBs can do a good job baiting him, perhaps he will toss up some bad passes we can pick off.

And a couple of big TOs by our D could ignite the entire team.

our OL has kinda struggled vs UGA and PITT blitzers... we're forced to keep both the TE and Hood back to protect, meaning it's just 3 WRs vs 5 defenders. We beat Pitt, but it took tons of 4th down conversions. Not sure how well this will work vs FSU. Our OL is either different or MW forced teams to not be able to blitz in the same manner.

Even at that, our three WR's are a handful, most secondaries can't cover them. If we give Mitch, a little time, he's proven he will get the ball to the open guy, whether it be Switz, Bug, Mack, or Austin.

I got in on the Heels +11. Unfortunately I'm getting dragged to a wedding during this game (figures, couldn't have been pretty much any other weekend this year). So I'll DVR it and follow along on my phone. If it's ugly, I'll just hit delete on the DVR, but I'm hoping to get to watch it.

I agree but I like the thought of allowing Hood to just chip a block and wait for a pass in the flat on some plays. If Hood can get a pass or two out in the flat where there's space it gives FSU another headache to worry about.
