FSU 10/1

I agree but I like the thought of allowing Hood to just chip a block and wait for a pass in the flat on some plays. If Hood can get a pass or two out in the flat where there's space it gives FSU another headache to worry about.
Anything to slow down their pass rush a little. Mitch won't have s much time as he had against Pitt.

And please let our defense play well. Otherwise, we are in a shootout. And if FSU gets it going against our "D" then....oh well. Put up an "L". I'm still hoping our staff and players will come in prepared and hold their own.

Well with a shootout it really comes down to who has the ball last. The D will probably be hard to watch, but I bet the O will be fun.

Josh sweat and derwin james are still missing this gm due medium knee injuries I believe.

If it comes down to a shootout I think our chance of winning increases. We are a shootout team right now. If it comes down to some kind of defensive game then I think we lose by a couple of touchdowns. Getting a stop against FSU at their place is a lot harder than getting a stop against Pitt at our place.

Agreed 0910, and it is odd, but in that last drive against Pitt, I just had confidence in the guys to make plays, even on those 4th and longs, our guys just executed. Yeah, in a shootout, I'll go with our guys, but if we get down a TD or two it will be a very tough game in which to come back. If we are able to get out of there with a "W" then a great many people around the football country are going to take notice.

If it were in chapel hill i would give us a chance. (No shyt huh?) but looking at that roster talent...they're just way better than us right now. This has got baylor written all over it. Sorry to be so pessimistic. But we're 121st in rushing defense. They're 15th in rushing offense.

yall have played nobody!!!! and yalls defense gives up 265 yards rushing a game!! cook is coming
but you have beaten nobody but a 2nd level SEC team. You gave up 63 points to UL , maybe they will turn out to be the greatest college team ever but I doubt it.

I don't think that most FSU fans are very confident....

Any team with a QB has been shredding the Nole D for 20 yard plus plays....and the defense plays decent only to have inexplicable lapses...allowing wide open receivers, runners allowed to blast up the middle for long runs, etc.

The Nole offense will do OK if a pass rush can't get to the QB. Not terrific...but OK

I wouldn't be worried about your offense. We won't get many stops unless your help us out with penalties and/or turnovers.

I also believe TJ Logan needs to have a big game... X Factor... He tends to show up in games like this.

Thinking the same thing. This is a good game to feed the ball to Logan more. I think he can burn them for huge plays. My guess is they will press the pass rush and we can exploit that with more runs, especially with Logan. Not knocking Hood. I think he can run against them as well but they have similar defense to GA, and Logan was perfect against that.

We just didn't use him enough.

Cook is not his old self. I think he's worried about injury. But regardless, one of the things that makes a great RB is the O-line. And that's where I am concerned considering our D-line's performance so far. Cook? He can be stopped. The question is whether we can man up in the trenches.

If you're only here to flame then move on or talk FB,this has been a very good thread with good posts from both teams fans.If you can't I'll gladly show you the door.

While Hood doesn't have the turbo gear of Logan, if he gets that block at the line or on the edge we'll see the Hood of 5-9 yards a carry again. As to Logan, I'm still playing the tape in my head on his kickoff return earlier this season, kid has a different gear, ran right into a group of 3 defenders and in one step shot beyond 'em all by about 8 yards and was gone. Gave me goosebumps.
I hope the guys can give both TJ and Elijah some blocks. Love to see a couple of passes into the flat for both too!
And if we have a mismatch on Bug throw to bug, ALOT!

From account of recent Jimbo interview...

"Jimbo asked about UNC's rushing defense. He says numbers are skewed because they've played good running teams. Plus teams respect secondary, so teams are shying away from pass. And they want to keep UNC offense off field."

I expect that Jimbo will continue the running game trend, trying to limit the time that the Heels have the ball.

Bug's weakness has been that he has often played soft, as if he weren't fully aware of what he can do. Last week, Pitt draped that DB all over him every play. Bug was mugged from his first play until he caught the game winning TD.

Let's hope he is now overflowing with calm confidence. He can be interfered pass after pass and still make huge plays. He now knows this. He can be the star in clutch moments, and he can be that star with DBs hitting him early and often.

I wouldn't want to be our OC. Or either of them I should say.
Hood
Logan
Swizzy
Mack
Proehl
Bug

Gotta keep you up late figuring out to spread the ball around.

I believe Jimbo will commit to trying to stop the run. This puts his trust in his corners to match up with Mack and Swizzy and Bug and Proehl. I put my money on our receivers. Also, Mitch needs to tuck and run more in this game to keep Jimbo's D honest. They have had trouble with mobile QB's and Mitch is plenty mobile.

Truth is most FSU fans are not that confident. Oh yeah, we think FSU wins but there are a lot of worries about the defense. The best way for UNC to score will most likely be on big plays for big gains.

Noles are confident about the offense. Dalvin Cook, although somewhat unpredictable in his performances is the real deal and he is healthy and up to speed. And RB, Jacques Patrick is right up there with him so as long as the running game is working I expect Jimbo Fisher to keep pounding the ball. Now if UNC insists on loading the box and blitzing FSU will throw the ball. Look for a lot of slants over the middle, flares to the flat and bubble screens with the occasional bomb just to keep the secondary honest. Should be a high scoring game with lots of big plays by both teams. The best CFB has to offer.

I'm getting ready to poast some stats for this matchup. A couple in particular really jumped out at me and demonstrate the point you're making.

FSU's defense is holding opposing teams to a paltry 49.5% completion rate, which ranks 13th in the nation. But, FSU also allows a whopping 18.1 yards per completion, which is dead last nationally. Translation: when you do manage to complete a pass, it's likely to be a huge gainer. That's just nuts.

Raising..........

Nuts but true! It will be interesting to watch and see if on 3rd and short UNC goes long occasionally. It's a big gamble but based on stats it might be worth taking once and a while.

Also, just curious..........have any teams tried seriously jamming Switzer at the line?

That tells me they're blitzing a lot and using man coverage. When u can get the ball away u get a big gain.

They've given up 13 plays of more than 30 yards this year already. We should be able to exploit that if we can give Mitch decent pass protection.
It'll be interesting to see how our defense fares against a qb that is a pocket passer. Not really a threat to run like lamar and flowers. Wonder which d shows up.

^ his scrambling won't be anything like Lamar's when plays break down. We'll call a few QB draws and there are run/pass option plays which involve him keeping it in certain circumstances.

Former QB in our offense was an extremely productive runner. Scheme hasn't changed. Current QB is fast but less elusive, less experienced in running.

I think most FSU fans expect to win a close, but high scoring game tomorrow. Most are taking a "I'll believe it when I see it" approach to the defense not giving up chunk play after chunk play. Offense seemed to simplify their game plan last week and really focused on being physical and hammering the run game. I don't expect that to change tomorrow.

I really like your QB. Hopefully we can get some pressure on him, otherwise he could have a really big day.

Switzer scares me on offense and STs. He's lightning quick. I'm interested to see how we play him on defense.

If I were the FSU OC, I would run the ball every play except 3rd and 5+. Noles would win by 3 touchdowns.

My guess is that will pretty much be the game plan. Of course, if the field is wide open the passing game will kick in.just like in the Ole Miss game.

I agree with Raising Heel when he said FSU's game plan should be run, run, run, and run some more. We haven't stopped anybody from doing so this year. It wears our defense down and makes us susceptible to a couple of big passing plays just about every game. We're going to have to play as well as we possibly can and get a couple of breaks in order to win.

I am very worried about pass protection for Mitch. FSU loves to play pocket passers where they can just pin their ears back and rush the QB. If we can protect Mitch, we have an outside chance. If not, the rout will be on.
