Got beat inside , got beat outside... just got Beat

To me Carolina looked hurried in the 1st half last night. First big game of the year and you have to give the crowd credit for having an impact on the game. I liked that we kept fighting and cut the lead to 5 at one point in the 2nd half. The Hoosiers are salty this year and I believe that this game, even though we lost, will significantly help us in the long run. So my only complaint is that we have to keep our composure and show more maturity when faced with adversity...to me we did not do that last night. I believe in this team though.....great early season college hoops game!

Excellent learning experience. Coach is getting to know who's ready for conf play. Everyone gets a chance to prove themselves and gain valuable experience at the risk of the team not playing as well as it could. Play our starting 5 in maui with mainly bradley and britt off the bench and we win that game in spite of being flat imho.

Eh, stats show TOs don't really stop runs. The lineups were a bigger issue but Roy likes that stuff, lol. Probably pays off in the long run but kind of sucks in the moment.

I've never seen those stats, could you show your source?

I've seen Phil Jackson, Popovich and every other NBA coach call them, when their team is getting their hats handed to them, should tell them not to bother! :D:D:D

Not trying to hijack the thread - but at least this study suggests the opposite - maybe.

despite all the reasons we lost which are all very valid, a harsh reality with this team is something that continues to get mentioned on and off but everybody seems to overlook. we are NOT nearly as deep as people want to portray us as. As mentioned numerous times, just because Roy continues to run about 3 bodies too many out there, does not mean it's quality depth. Truth be known, his tinkering with the lineup last night didn't help our cause at all. outside of our top 7, there's a huge drop off in overall production (both ends of the floor). Luke Maye is a typical recruit that Roy has had to settle on because we've laid so many eggs on the recruiting trail lately. I think he's a great kid that works his tail off, but he simply is not very effective on either end of the floor. Brandon Robinson and Seventh Woods are not ready, especially not for big league college basketball against IU on prime time. Good kids but young kids. I understand the whole thought process around trying to establish depth, especially early in the year because truly no championships of value are won this time of year. But when the rubber starts to meet the road in ACC play, and then come tournament time, Maye, Robinson and Woods seeing the type of minutes they are getting now simply won't cut it. We balk at Dook's usual lack of depth, but this year, we'll need to ride our top 7 pretty hard. This number turns into our top 8 if we get Theo back this year in time for him to get back in the swing of things and make an impact.

What has impressed me is how polished this team looks, especially being so early in the year. Most years the BB team comes out looking somewhat lost both on offense and defense, and there is a lot of subs and combos used to see who meshes best. This year, with a few exceptions (Seventh), these guys have come out focused with a high level of defensive intensity, good help defense and rotations, and a tremendous amount of confidence and swagger on the offensive end. Kind of a "get you some" attitude and that is some sexy ish right there. Love this team !!

I made the above post in the "We are the best team in the country" thread and I guess I need to be a good politician and walk that back a bit.

I wish I could sit down with coach one day and ask him why he picked IU , at their place, to start tinkering with a line up that, for this time of year, has been running like a Swiss watch. Why in the world did he start Nate with JB when JB and Kenny had been playing so well together both offensively and defensively ?? Why pick IU, in their building, to bring back an injured Luke Maye when you have 3 more suitable games to ease him back in the swing of things coming up. That snowbird he whiffed can stay with you and may do some serious damage to his confidence for quite a while. And why start monkeying around with your starters and sub rotation at all?

I ask these questions rhetorically because I already know the answer .. cause it's just like coach and his bank full of time outs. It's simply what Roy Williams does .. simple as that .. guess I need to learn to get over it cause I have yet to get used to it.

Here is the answer to 99% of the posts since the IU loss.

Yeah after I read that post, reality set in....This game ultimately means nothing...had we played well and loss. Then I would be worried.

This team has room for improvement. That's a good thing.

Why does Roy keep alternating Williams and Britt in the starting line-up? Williams needs to start, period.

Stubborn Roy! He probably knows it, but he also knows he's gonna need Britt at some key moments this season & trying to not hurt his moral.

I like Britt coming off the bench not as anything punitive (bad choice of words I know) but as a settling agent alongside the freshman.

Regardless, the loss sucked and Roy didn't want to lose. He certainly is doing his lineup thing but while part of that is for March he also wants to win each game. Not at the sacrifice of the bigger picture maybe but he wants to win. I guarantee that. This team has also been on the road a ton and this was just a really tough spot for them. Out of all the losses UNC has had over the last few years, this is way down there on ones to worry about IMO. The UK game is a much better barometer of this team's potential.

Still sucked though. Always sucks to lose and especially to get hammered a bit and for UNC that is kind of what that was.

Just like College football...home game emotions matter in basketball....Mt team in college was 0-3 toTexas, all blowouts in 94...in 95 with a new coach and lots of adrenaline we beat them 99 to 96....they blew us out in Austin the next game.

No way did UNC match that intensity at the beginning. That and free throws were the difference.
