Great day

I did bacon-wrapped shrimp last night, just me and the boss. I've also got some jalapeno sausage straight from Mclemore's abattoir in Vidalia...can't wait to get some char on that tonight!

What a great day to hang by my pool, down a few cold ones and barbecue some chicken for dinner.

Cost of ownership can be high. Seems like there is always something not working on the pool. And it requires a lot of maintenance. Unless you are around every week, you’ll have to hire someone to tend to it.

The last house we lived in (which we rented for 3 years while figuring out what we wanted to do) had a pool and I don’t remember having many problems. It was a pretty simple 20x40 vinyl lined set up though.

Another thing is people think they are getting something that adds value to your home. It really does not. You'll spend more on it than it will ever earn you in a sale. And people who aren't specifically looking for a pool as a "must have" won't pay extra for it just because it's there and they will argue it's a pain in the ass to maintain.

I learned this the hard way.

I don’t know that this is true in Houston. If you’ve got kids it’s almost essential. Too damn hot in summer for kids to play outside unless you have one or easy access to one.

I'm not familiar with the Houston area, but here in Florida a lot of homes have pools so people don't consider it a really big deal. Now that's not to say it doesn't have value, it is obviously an enjoyable perk. But compared to the cost of keeping it up year-round, it outweighs the value in terms of dollars added to the price of the home. Buyers here are keen to it and won't pay that much extra for a home with a pool vs one without.

My pool is older so maybe that’s why, but I feel like more often than not, there’s an issue with it. Just constantly costing me something.

I would think a pool being of value would depend on location. It's probably going to be more valuable in Arizona than Alaska.
