Greetings to our Wazzu visitors

What's the vibe of the athletic department in terms of bolstering funds available for raises to assistant coaches? (Lord, that was a messy sentence). I believe you have a fairly new AD (?) who said y'alls football program was possibly the worst in the nation until Leach took over.

Our giving sucks. We're still among the worst in D1. Former AD did a bang up job at Oregon but couldn't get the formula to work in Pullman, as well as couldn't land the big $$ donor(s) like he did in Eugene.

I was personally involved in the fundraising side of the athletic department for several years, and I can tell you that they are about 10 years behind the curve in getting fan support for their team. Moos was a "if you build it they'll come" guy, and wasn't afraid to spend money to make money, but unfortunately the WSU fan wallet is a tough nut to crack.

While giving and donor numbers are up, we are still way behind. Personally, I don't think they put enough emphasis on community building and getting out there with the public. They put on 1 large fund raiser a year per region, and a golf tournament for those with an extra $5k to blow so they can golf with former football players and coaches.

We used to have a local person(s) per region to go out and raise awareness in each region, but it wasn't working out so instead of hiring a salesperson (hand goes up....) to do the job, they just shit canned the position. I knew the guy locally - solid guy, solid Coug, but he couldn't/ wouldn't hard close someone - just not a sales guy.

In addition, the fund raising arm has had volunteers come and go because they work them to the bone and treat them like poop. I started to type out how it is organizationally dysfunctional, but I'll just leave it at that.

I love my school dearly, but the CAF is poorly run and its mostly because its an afterthought and not a priority.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. What's the CAF stand for?

We have somewhat similar problems at Carolina. We're blessed with some very generous, very rich donors, but beyond that, our level of giving sucks. Our official athletics booster club is called the Educational Foundation but is known as the Rams Club. I did the math a year or so ago. Of UNC's living alumni, less than 5% are Rams Club donors...........and that's making the (wrong) assumption that every single Rams Club donor is an alumnus/alumna.

It's especially frustrating because on the academic side, Carolina receives an incredible amount of financial support from donors. It would be nice if we could get that same monetary support for athletics.

This is spot on.

It the fundraising arm of the athletic department, "Cougar Athletic Fund".

Just want to add another WSU/ North Carolina connection: One of WSU's most famous alums, Edward R Murrow, was born in a cabin near Greensboro, North Carolina. Lived there until he was 6, I believe. His older brother also went to WSU and was a lead engineer involved in overseeing the construction of 'Gallopng Gertie' the ill fated Tacoma Narrows bridge that collapsed (although he wasn't responsible for the actual bad slimmed down plan).

Hey NC fans. I was wondering what the hell happened on our board when all you guys showed up. I'm going to give our moderator some grief for deleting your threads.

I don't know crap about NC except that you beat my Cougs in the Sweet 16 in about 2008 to end out best BB season ever. We went downhill from there, and our pretty boy coach Tony Bennett bailed on us for Virginia.

Side note, our Australian Center that year, Aron Baynes, is now playing solid minutes for the Celtics, and his opponent in that game, your Psycho T, is apparently out of the NBA?

Not sure whether to say thanks for first part or put on blast for the last.

Tyler - with his relentless motor - was built for the college game and is a legend in Chapel Hill, but few are surprised that his role in the NBA was ... limited. He doesn't have the length, speed, or range to flourish with the way that game is played these days. Back-to-the-basket centers have become fairly rare in the league, and 6'9" ones nonexistent.

Enjoyed running loose on your board for a bit. Stop by any time.

How are you viewing that? All I️ get is an error.
Not sure. Some people can't even see the threads without logging out, but I'm able to see the threads and my notifications. I don't have the ability to reply or like posts though. I got a message saying I was blacklisted and not banned though. Maybe there are two different levels of being blocked on rivals. Any insight here @heelbent?

I think that's right. My only previous experience is getting banned for liking salty tears poasts at RR last April; I got one, and then when I pushed back and tried to ask the mod to explain why I was blacklisted, I got the other.

lol I got banned from RR and DI for doing the same things. How does liking poasts warrant a ban?

Yeah that was me. The post got deleted by the moderator. Now I am really mad.
I read the thread before it got deleted. Pretty ruthless (read: not smart) for the mod to delete your thread even after you pointed out you were one of the few on the free board that pays for a premium membership.

Blacklisted means you can still visit the forum you just can't post.

Banned is the nuclear option. You can't even see the board as long as the banned username is logged in.

But I’ve never visited the site and I get the same error

Fortunately the only fatality was a cocker spaniel named "Tubby."

Prefunking is another important term for a WSU graduate.
"Jackhammered drunk" I get (and too often), but please explain "prefunking."

My neighbor's girlfriend is in her last year at WSU as a fine arts major. She will be returning to Charlotte after graduation and I plan on using the term on her. Having no idea what it means, though, I need some context.

Pre function(event) drinking.

Get your buzz on before having to pay for beer at the bar most of the time.
