Heels Think They're in and are Planning Accordingly

That's a tough one. As of now, the reality is they are unlikely to get an invite. However, if there is a very small probability they could actually get in, then yes, they should be preparing. The sad reality is that this team IS a tourney team, but has underachieved all season, in many areas. The question is, if they squeak in just to get blown out in the first game by a good team, matching the pattern of this season, is it actually worth it? I guess the fact that they made the tournament is a great accomplishment these days... On the flip side, it would be fun seeing them squeaking by to get in, making a run, and watching these guys having fun, having this "us against the world" mentality.

I am puzzled about Indiana being chosen over us per the experts.
Yes, they did better in their conference tournament, but they did not have to play Duke.
I don’t see any quality wins over the course of the year besides Michigan State…who we lost a close game to.

I say we don’t make it simply bc too many people love to see UNC fail.
If we don't, that will be the reason.

The committee's stated prime criteria is "net", which takes all the Quad stuff, etc into the formula, BTW.

Current net:
UNC 36
Texas 39
Arky 40
Oklahoma 43
Boise 44 (and got blown out last night)
Xavier 45
Vandy 48
WVU 51
Indiana 54

Also,
UNC 22-13 / 13-7
Texas 19-15 / 6-12
Arky 20-13 / 8-10
Okahoma 20-13 / 6-12
Boise 23-10 / 14-6
Xavier 21-11 / 13-7
Vandy 20-12 / 8-10
WVU 19-13 / 10-10
Indiana 19-13 / 10-10

So, on no planet should Indiana get in.
Moreover, nobody should get in with a damn .333 conference winning pct --- and I don't care WHAT conference you're in.

If you believe the sportsbooks know a thing or 2

I'm not a gambler with real, hard earned money (but LOVE playing free on-line poker).

Anyway - if you can actually bet on this item, it seems like there are several people here on this thread thinking Heels are a sure thing, that should be able to cash in big time with a +320 money line. ($100 to win back $320, $220 winnings if I understand MLs correctly).

Need to hear from @bleeduncblue on what he is hearing, thinking.

Lunardi usually gets like 66 or 67 of the 68 right, but those are the no-brainers anyone could pick. I do think there are better predictors than him, especially as he gets older (and seemingly dumber and lazier?)

But on almost all things you can bet on in the world, it is hard to argue with the betting odds. It is basically the measure of the collection of all people's information out there, poured into people's decisions to bet their money. Whether its on sports, politics, etc

Thanks for sharing this info. I took a look at the schedule/results for each of those teams. After actually looking deeper at the win/losses and considering the data you shared, I realize this team should get an invite over each of those teams. However some of the blowouts and just "going through the motion" for most of the season, give me pause, do they actually deserve it?

Of course we do, and it's honestly not close.

Unfortunately, right now we're being out-politicked.
That sleazy jackass Sankey is busy loudly hawking the ludicrous notion that 14 SEC teams should get it --- utter nonsense if you look at those numbers I posted --- while our ACC "commissioner" sits on his ass like an ineffectual doofus.

Excuse me for not resorting to leaning on brand recognition and delusion to get us into the tournament.
Neither of those is the case. Objective metrics that the committee says they use say we should be in: NET, WAB, Kenpom.

There is nothing "delusional" about that. If we get in, those measures say we clearly deserve it, and thus if we don't, that's when something would seem to be fishy.

Not sure how when basically everyone says we don't make the cut that we somehow get in. Don't get me wrong I want in and IMO think we pass the eye test... unlike some here who are ready to pop the bubbly and say told you so if we don't and would find more joy in that than supporting us going forward.

I don't got a good feeling about getting in, honestly this is come down to 2 game. If we win against Michigan State in Maui or if we win the Stanford game at home we are locked but those 2 is the difference

I still can’t comprehend how we lost that Stanford game.
The Michigan State game was against a mentally tough team while we were still trying to figure out things on our end… I can live with that.
But losing to Stanford was puzzling and disheartening.

Happy for RJ that he’ll get another shot to play meaningful tournament games. Happy for the team. But good for RJ that it didn’t end yesterday.

I find it funny for the people who crap on KenPom and another advanced metrics all the time and use it in this case to defend UNC’s resume.

But none of the talk matters anymore. They got an opportunity to extend their season one game at a time. Good for them.

IIRC, there was questions about the 2000 FF team's inclusion in the tournament. That turned out pretty well. Let IJ transform into Joe Forte for the tournament.
