Yeah, I'm with you. I just don't have much confidence in the team. I don't think they'll do very well. They're just not that good of a team.I look forward to the NIT.
The idea that we should opt out is childish, imo.
When Maryland did that back in the day, maybe they had some justification. They were, after all, the 2nd best team in the nation.
What's our excuse?
I think UCLA would have beaten Maryland at least 2 of 3 times, probably 3 of 4. UCLA also drubbed Moo in regular season. I think UCLA would have beaten Moo 2 of 3 times.I look forward to the NIT.

I respectfully disagree. Pulling the plug on this season and declining a NIT invitation might just communicate to this team, at least the people who are coming back to it, that subpar effort and results are not part of the Carolina way. Certainly nothing else the coaching staff has tried has delivered the message in a way the team understands it. We have a standard set by McGuire, Smith, Guthridge and Roy (Yes I left Doherty out on purpose) and this team has fallen woefully short of that standard. I have no faith that Hubert would play anyone other than his standard starters and that next year's returning players would garner little to nothing from the NIT experience. Might be better for them to go home and watch the big dance on TV to reset their attention and the program's expectations.I look forward to the NIT.

The problem is Hubert won’t do that.If we do go to the NIT, should Hubert should give more (most?) of the minutes to the guys who are definitely coming back? Not to punish the guys who are leaving, but to get a good feel for what we will have before he has to dive into the portal.
If so, that means some of our guys need to make decisions.
I'm not saying Leaky and Pete and whoever else is unlikely to return shouldn't play at all. They're still part of the team and should get a chance to extend their season. But other guys should get more minutes. Let's see what they can do.
Everybody says that at this time of year, freshmen are no longer freshman. So let's see what Seth, Jalen and Tyler promise for next season.
They’re not getting better by playing either. Send a message to the whole team and shut this season down. One thing is for certain, they NEED to play more! They definitely need as much playing time as possible. They won't get better by not playing.

Just spitballin' here...
And I would add- lets change up the defense every now and then. Teams looked way too comfortable against us for vast majority of the year...I am praying we can somehow keep Bacot and Davis . Love leaves , and bring in at least 3 transfers that can put the ball in the hoop. For a team that has prided themselves in having a very good offense over the years. This was terrible to watch. Also can we start pushing the damn ball again. Hate this slow down half court crap. Missed the days we got 10-20 fast break points a game.
I'd be ok with actually playing these guys we recruited instead of bringing in multiple transfers. Assuming our own players don't transfer.I am praying we can somehow keep Bacot and Davis . That's a 15-20 loss season right there. Next year is going to be rough.I'd be ok with actually playing these guys we recruited instead of bringing in multiple transfers. Assuming our own players don't transfer.
Why do you think that? We have no clue how good they are because they haven't gotten a chance to play. And if they are really that bad, three transfers aren't going to make much difference. If we aren't going to play good recruits, then we should stop going after them. Save us the embarrassment of them transferring. That's a 15-20 loss season right there. Next year is going to be rough.

I think every coach wants to win. Not giving your recruits playing time is a bad way to try to win.I think that Hubert Davis wants to win and if those guys were good they would play some. I don't think Hubert is good at developing players so how a guy comes in is how that guy is going to leave. Would love to be wrong but Hubert has shown very little ability to adjust.
I agree 100%. It's been very frustrating the last two Novembers when zero bench development was done.I think every coach wants to win. Not giving your recruits playing time is a bad way to try to win.
I think that's too harsh, but you make a fair point.Pulling the plug on this season and declining a NIT invitation might just communicate to this team, at least the people who are coming back to it, that subpar effort and results are not part of the Carolina way.
Maybe so. I was just trying to suggest that we don't have a good reason to opt out of the NIT - assuming we get an offer. But that's just my opinion.I think UCLA would have beaten Maryland at least 2 of 3 times, probably 3 of 4. UCLA also drubbed Moo in regular season. I think UCLA would have beaten Moo 2 of 3 times.
It's a safe bet he won't do that again.Remember we are hinging our hats on a guy that thought it was a good idea to do the SI cover then says outside "noise" is an issue.
I'm crossing my fingers that several of them say they don't want to play and Hubert tells them that. One of the podcast guys said "if I'm the coach and one of my guys says he doesn't want to play in the NIT, I'd tell him to 'find another school, right now.'"
We'll be under .500 if that's the case. There's not a single guy on the bench whose play this year remotely merits a starting role. Maybe Washington will grow into it, but the others would require huge leaps. These guys couldn't even outcompete our struggling starters for minutes. You can't play like Trimble or Dunn this year and expect significant minutes at UNC.I'd be ok with actually playing these guys we recruited instead of bringing in multiple transfers. I think our back court starters - RJ and Wilcher - will be very good. These guys couldn't even outcompete our struggling starters for minutes. You can't play like Trimble or Dunn this year and expect significant minutes at UNC.
