How Is Tony? [Update - Not Avail for FSU]

They will evaluate, word is he came around fine once he got to the locker room but was woosey as we all saw going to the locker room. he initially got hit on top of the head with an elbow, then hit by Mitiglu's chest that bent his neck a little, and then his head hit the floor when he fell. So he got hit with a combination that rocked him. Hard to say if he is able to play Sat vs FSU, hope he can, fingers crossed, kinda depends on if he is showing symptoms today. My best guess is he may be held out of that game for pre-caution of concussion protocalls.

Yeah, all that gravity and physics stuff, in the replay his head did the classic snap back to the floor and he immediately reached up and held his head. Concussions are serious business and staff will not fool around with Tony's health over one game. More than likely, he would sit until next week. I hope David is right that we hope to get him back but not likely.

It was ugly. I sure hope he is OK. Stuff like this just sucks for everyone. He was having a great game, and we really need him vs FSU, Theo needs to get back in the groove too, but I understand it may take a while.

Soapy, in a strange way FSU may be one of those games that is not really in Tony's wheel house. Yeah, I know, he is the longest guy we have and we will have the longest team in the ACC, very likely the longest team in the country. But maybe the better way to attack them is with speed and quickness because we have no chance to pout length them with or without Tony. But draw their big men out in space against a quicker ball handler, even Hicks is quicker, and those bigs are not nearly as imposing. If we can spread them out we can hurt them and it may be that a smaller but quicker and solid shooting group is a better way to attack them than trying to out do what they do.

Take the pace up and run those big men, they can not stay with us yet they seem to want to try to run themselves. There bigs are tall but they are not overly athletic other than Issics. Big key for us will be limiting XRM and Bacon, if we can handcuff them then they can be taken. I think we can turn them over, I think when we do that we can get out and run and own the game pace.

Plus we are at home, that is huge in the ACC. I'll be surprised if we aren't a 5.5 or 6 pt favorite.

Dave, I hope Tony is back and healthy, but also hope you are right and we beat them whether he is or isn't. I was thinking we might get short on fouls to give in the post with Tony out, and get handcuffed on defense yet again due to foul trouble. I sure hope THAT doesn't happen.

Archer, that may be a function of matchups more than anything else. Yes, he is prone to foul but he sure has had some tough matchups.

I wish TB well! Concussions are nothing to play with. I think we need all the bigs we can muster against FSU, but D does have a winning strategy in his post! We just need some of that in your face, take no prisoners on ball D! Led by the Nasty Dog on XRM (probably) and without serious foul trouble, we can cause them some serious problems. Our small lineup could be a factor in this game as long as our shooting remains on par. JJ, JB, and most likely Luke (if TB doesn't go) will be important factors in this game as well.

I like David's game plan to space/spread, got to have the defense ready as TPF suggests. We have to be the aggressor, come out running our game and not just reacting.

Playing Wake was or at least should be a good lead in game to FSU, Wake has a lot of length as well, not as much as FSU but I don't think FSU will have the shooters that Wake has outside of XRM.

Best way to neutralize length is with speed, quickness, sharp passing, and timely shooting. That is pretty much what we did to beat them at their place last year. Lift all 5 outside of the paint and let Joel drive them, as soon as he pulls help defender slip it, they do not rotate real well.

About what I thought. I'm not one for rushing a kid back from any injury and I expect even more caution dealing with head trauma!

Yeah, don't know if Tony qualifies for "miracle medical" like they have up the road...
He would probably be okay by Syracuse game (next Saturday), BC (Monday) is a tight two day turn from FSU, not sure we "need" Tony for BC.. so he might miss FSU & BC out of caution.

This is Carolina NOT UK East where their "terrible injuries" MIRACULOUSLY heal in a matter of hours or at most a few days

Tony has been deemed unavailable for tomorrow's game. I think most of us expected this after watching him attempting to walk thru the tunnel unassisted.

Godspeed

That's a shame. I assume he'll be fine or we would have heard something. But, unlike some here, I think his length could have been very important against FSU. And it would also be good experience for him to get a taste of playing against a bruiser like Ojo and taller guys like their 7'4 guy. Could be useful if/when we meet them again in the ACCT or NCAAT.

How did you revise the thread title? That's pretty neat.

Best decision for all involved. Kudos to Roy and the medical staff for putting the well being of a player first.
Now go coach the kids you got and work out a way to win!

Expecting him back next weekend so out this game and the next (most likely).

okay, FSU today, Syracuse Monday THEN BC Saturday, tough being old... thanks guys.
