If nobody is going to put more money on the table to get a top-rated player, are we done?

Should we maybe pay Lubin a little more to bring him back. First because we may have underpaid him relative to his portal value and second because if Wilson or Stevenson are playing significant minutes at SF, we could use his proven skills up front.

Should we go after a backup PG? Or are we confident that Evans/Dixon/Trimble/Denis have us covered? Four guys sounds like enough, but only Evans has played meaningful PG minutes in college.

Or maybe we should reexamine what we paid Seth or other guys. In the podcast it sort of sounded like we may have under-compensated our only top returner.

What else? A lower-ranked backup SF?

Good luck getting more $$ until the product on the court shows they want to play for the coach and more importantly the coach/staff shows they know what they are doing. Guys half-assing it back on D, moving 3/4 speed on offense, not boxing out, etc. The people they want the checks from are generally pretty successful, and they know that pumping more money into a broken system is ridiculous.

We have a severe hole at backing up the 5, could we please handle a need and not worry so much about players that we can neither afford or get?

I guess I’m confused… if the money that was slotted for Drake and Lubin would theoretically be back in play, how can we only have $700k left? That math doesn’t seem to be mathing for me?
Because the money for Drake was, would still come from OUTSIDE the collective NIL and is specific to Drake. I think but not totally sure, money is set aside in the event Lubin does come back that is not part of the $700K left in NIL funds but maybe the $700K is the Lubin money. Maybe the staff feels Lubin is coming back due to his words on twitter but I am not sure of that at all. I do find it very odd that Lubin enters the portal and what seems to be ZERO effort to replace him or bring him back quickly?

Thanks… this helps, but then again, good lord, it shouldn’t have to be this complicated!

They should buy all peeps who spend way too much time on message boards some season tix! Since I'm an All-Star level fan, I should get my market value on top too!

(As long as I get more than DS and G-7, I won't enter the portal!)

Dude, if they did that I would be able to watch every game by myself! Imagine, Dean Dome all me, players, coaches, TV folks and me surrounded by cheer leaders, heck I might even notice the game every now and then! LOL

He complained we didn't have enough
They gave him exactly what he wanted.
Now he still needs more.
Perhaps they should find someone who doesn't.

I'm still not entirely convinced we don't get Drake back.

Does anybody understand what's going on with Lubin?

Is Lubin just working through seller's remorse (feeling that he sold himself too cheap)?

Is he looking for more PT somewhere else?

Lubin may be one of the few players who felt he was used well and even developed here. But now he's looking at reduced usage and little or no opportunities to start.

Reduced PT and starts are unlikely to help his long term earnings.

Lubin seems to be trying to figure out if the NCAA will grant a 5th year of eligibility or does he have to strike hard $$$ wise now in his last season. Lubin feels he was an important player last season for us and only 1 of 2 that have ever started a game for us, being able to see the monopoly money players in the portal are getting and feels he deserves more. From the UNC side is the fact that Lubin already agreed to his deal, signed sealed and delivered as they say but now wants to re-negotiate it? So of course he is looking to see what offers may come his way but I am not sure there are a ton of teams interested in a guy that made a deal and now wants to re-negotiate it after the fact. When the Tenn QB did the same thing he ended up losing a LOT of what he already had at Tenn.

We are better because quite frankly we’re not so deficient in the Height department

But that being said we had a number 1 option with potential of Drake and Ian developing into that guy

Now does 5 2s equal the same ? My example is ole Miss pretty much dominated us with 5-6 guys who were solid but no real star they had 6 guys averaging double figures

If 700,000 is left how were we even in the running for the Cal player to begin with ?

See, right there, 6 guys averaging double figures and no star go to guy, they beat us. You have to spread the ball around, let everyone eat rather than starving everyone else just so 1 guy can get all he wants. That way when it is down tight late in a game and you really need a score you have 5 guys on the court that can give it to you rather than just 1 that the other teams doubles up on.

That is a great example of how this UNC team could be good! The only difference is Beard is light years better than Hubert (from a coaching standpoint)I’m not sure Hubert can take this team very far!

Us? Sponsor him? There is still time to delete this.
No need to delete. We wear his brand on everything we wear. His logo is everywhere. He makes billions off of that logo. He is a UNC alumni and a billionaire.. he can't spare an extra 10k???

Maybe we shouldn't use his logo on our stuff if he is unwilling to help out our program.. after all he is one of the richest people in the world.. he can't give back??

It’s pretty rich calling someone greedy with your hand in their pocket but I wouldn’t expect you to get that. He’s done a million times for the school what it has done for him. He is the reason that logo exists and association with him benefits the program not the other way around.

10k is nothing to him. To help out this program back on top.

You know k stands for thousand right? WTH you gonna do with $10k? Throw them a party on a visit? When the program has a coach the money folks believe in more money will be there. No reason to throw good money after bad for another disjointed bubble team.
