Hubert says changes to coaching staff coming

Would be a tremendous hire if it works out. He certainly knows how to negotiate mega million dollar deals with players.
Disagree. We need a talent evaluator. He has never built a team or thought about how players will together. Hubert had 5mm and was stubborn and passed over multiple people including Wolf waiting for the wrong guys.

Hubert did not have 5 million. The football team only had 4 mill, and basketball had significantly less. Hubert did not "pass over multiple people." Hubert identified numerous talented fits including Maxime Raynaud, Adou Thiero, and Clifford Omoruyi.

Nobody was complaining about talent evaluation last year when we were winning the ACC and getting a 1 seed. But this season, which was wrecked by a lack of NIL funds, has suddenly turned into a referendum on talent evaluation. If we had the NIL money to win over Theiro and Omoruyi, would you still be complaining about talent evaluation?

We need a GM to oversee and prevent our NIL from ever becoming the dumpster fire it was last offseason. We need him to deliver the players our staff wants, and keep us from ever again having to settle for guys like Lubin and Claude.

Football team had more than 4 million….Mack Brown told a lie…

I highly doubt Rachel Baker is doing any in depth talent evaluation at Dook. I think the basketball side of things can be handled by the staff, or a staff.
Taking care of NIL, sponsors, donors and having a working understanding and relationship with professional basketball is the key.
Jim Tanner has an impressive resume if this is indeed the guy.

And Hubert got cocky and put all his eggs in Raynaud basket- when he could have had Wolf or others. And Omoruyi had a terrible visit. We can agree to disagree about the money.

Well that's completely untrue. He certainly didn't put all his eggs in the basket of a guy who never even entered the portal.

Now go ahead and list all the UNC level bigs we could have gotten besides Wolf. Let's specifically hear these "others" that our broke NIL could have landed.

Maxime Raynaud, a 7'1" forward for the Stanford men's basketball team, entered the NCAA transfer portal in March 2024. He later withdrew from the portal in April 2024.

why you always lying….

There’s no point in arguing on a message board. I don’t pretend to know more than I do, but when I hear things directly from someone working with the basketball program and I know enough about what was happening with the SBC - you can draw whatever conclusion you want from there - I trust my info more than I trust yours. We can agree to disagree.

Furthermore, there isn’t the delta that’s being reported regarding UNC vs Duke’s war chest. Duke has an arrangement with CAA and that’s how their basketball players are getting the majority of their money. As well, a lot of this is speculation. I’m not in Hubert’s head so I don’t know what he was or wasn’t thing. People inside the program have told me everything I’m sharing. I do know the person calling the shots is Lee Roberts not Bubba. Bubba is charmin.

Looking back, the BIG score would have been making BOTH Wolf and Goldin their top priorities, we had contact with both but they were treated like back up plans, they felt that, they dismissed us with out a visit. I highly suspect that Hubert did his research and landed on his top 3 targets Aidoo, Raymound, and Kalkbrenner. By the time those guys were sorted out to other programs our back up guys went elsewhere.

I question how much home work Hubert was able to do, bet ya Hubert watched every game his 3 priority guys played but I question how much home work he put in on Wolf or Goldin?

Roberts has no business being our Chancellor. He was completely unqualified for the job and is nothing more than a political appointment made specifically to hurt the University. The day we are able to remove that **** stain from Chapel Hill will be a day all Tar Heels can celebrate.

This arrangement with CAA and it being how dukies are getting their money, can you explain that more?

As best as I can tell, you seem to be saying the NIL money between UNC and duke was at least some what similar but where as UNC was offering NIL + come play for us and enjoy the major stage & spotlight you get from being a UNC player; where as duke was offering NIL + CAA's outside of NIL money arrangements for commercial ads guaranteed by the school? Clearly Flagg would seem to have benefited huge by their GM having been a former Nike rep and ends up with a big time shoe deal for Flagg.

Nor does she have to Tarwhiz, that is not her role, her role is to reach out to agents to gauge interest and to see if there any important numbers that their program would have to hit.

As I understand it, Belichick is building the frame work that basketball will likely adopt, similar to what duke basketball is now doing. Talent evaluation is not done by the coach, hold on before you freak out. Let's say UNC basketball needs 2 centers from the portal, as was the case in this last portal. Hubert knew about Adioo, he was recruited by UNC, played him when we played Tenn. Hubert knew about Raymound, he knows Haas well and don't forget Ingram was from Stanford. Clearly Hubert understood Kalkbrenna was one of the best big men in the country and who does Hubert go hard for, those very 3, well 2 because Kalkbrenna stayed at Creiighton. Who else did Hubert go after, Oyensa and the Ky power forward Therio, remember, had our whole staff meet and have lunch with him. Stackhouse hand delivered Lubin to him, Omouryi was a last ditch desperation bring him in and we will see if he may fit that bombed from the get go on the visit (because there was zero relationship built). The point being, Hubert went in hard for a very few number of guys that he already knew, yet in nearly every game we have played this season we have faced big men where we said to ourselves, dang, wish we had picked that guy up?

There were how many kids in the last portal, how many of them were centers, maybe 80 or so? That is simply to many to really do a decent talent evaluation on by a head coach. Belichick is handing that bulk evaluation duty off to a team of recruiting assistants and they are handing him back 4 or 5 that fit his set criteria and rather than having to sort 100 guys Belichick is sorting thru 4 or 5 for a position need. Once the short list is formed, the GM reaches out to a agent or a coach to gauge the interest, see what the numbers are and if the interest is there and the numbers work they pass the list of 4 to the coach for his approval, then back to the GM to set a visit, ect from there. You have to see both the difference as well as the major advantage in that as opposed to what Hubert has been having to do.

Worried about Hubert ability to coach the X & Os, well Belichick has both offensive and defensive player development as well as strategy specialists that break down film and work with him on those break downs point by point so that the coach can simply go over that film with the position rooms, HUGE learning op not just for the players but for Hubert as well.

And maybe just maybe, it is because Hubert is spread so thin that his coaching has not been on point, we need our coachs to coach and we need our accountant minds to do the money accounting, we didn't hire an accountant we hired a coach. It is as we hired a truck driver to do a real estate appraiser job. We don't need Hubert trying to be something he isn't, his negotiating money should not be his job title, work with a kid on his visit to sell the program and how we will use him, coaching things, then turn him over to the $$$ guys to handle that aspect. Do this for not just the portal but for high school recruiting as well. Have some one working to help arrange outside of NIL commercial deals that dramatically sweeten your $$$ package to a kid. We have a hell of a business school at UNC, tons of talent to fill out these needs and let the coaches get back to just coaching for Pete sake.

Rose, don't know who said that but it is sad that it was said, there simply was no political nor racial aspect to Hubert's hire, Roy felt he was the best man available to carry UNC forward. To even suggest Roy Williams would do anything that would bring harm to this UNC program is un-thinkable.
