Huffman offered

I fell in love when I saw that mid range turn around Stokes shows off, I saw Deon in that, think of those same sweet turn around jumpers Deon showed us as a frosh. No way this kid does not sky rocket in the rankings if he hits that this season. When I saw the clips of Stokes I saw at a minimum Deon but with more of an aggressive mean streak and I absolutely love that in a big kid. My only concern is I wish he could elevate stronger and quicker to flush anything inside, his hopes seem Deon like as well and I would love for that to be a little more.

As for Huffman and Alex, the knock on Alex, besides his hands, he was a bit stiff and really needed more flexability, something he improved before he finished college. Huffman, if anything seems to be a bit more flexible and seems to have at least decent hands, flushes everything, sorta like Hicks does now days.
Completely agree with your thoughts on stokes. I love that kids potential and think he could become a monster at Carolina.

You really think he's less athletic than Stepheson? His physique is less impressive. He's less chiseled for sure, but Alex was a little stiff at times. Just look at the way Huffman gallops after a made dunk. I think he's bursting with athletic energy. Alex looked better coming off the bus, but I'm not convinced he was more athletic.

Less polished offensively than Deon? Absolutely. No argument there.

And as to why he's a 3 star...I think it has mostly to do with his level of competition he played all the way up in Alaska, and the fact that he's pretty raw. He may come out this year and struggle against bigger, better players, not improve his skills very much in the process, and justify that 3 star ranking. But if he continues flying around dunking everything at WoG then he's gonna get on some top 150 charts and may even be a 4 star with a great year. Don't mistake that for me saying he should already be ranked higher. I just think he's in a great position to move way up the charts.

Don't necessarily disagree with anything there except for the athletic part in comparison to Alex. I've only watched Huff once in person so I'm in no way an expert on his game, but he may have "energy" but I certainly wouldn't call it "athletic energy" (even though I'm not sure exactly what that is).

But as a few have said, thank god he has better hands than Alex.

Ha! Me neither. Sounded good when I wrote it though. Lucky you seeing some of these kids in person. I'm in STL and am forced to watch Tatum.

No such thing as a silent commitment.

Michael Porter Jr. Also disagrees.

Literally nothing more than telling the coaching staff your intents without making it public.

Though the chances of that actually being the case are probably low.

Telling a coach your plans/intentions without making it public or official is just a way to leave your options open and let a coach hear what he wants. It is not a commitment.

I am sure coaches know this.

Hell in this age a commitment isn't even a commitment to some kids.

Clint discusses Huffman on the recruiting link on the front page. Listen to what he says about a committment coming from the kid. It is kinda the text book definition of a silent verbal, don't ya think?

Come on, guys. Huffman is ranked 217. Even if you think he's underrated, you can't really think I meant he looks as good as Rasheed Wallace. What I said was that there was something about him that reminded me of RW and I specifically pointed to attitude. Look at the clip. You should see what I'm saying.
I got ya WWJD. People just don't want to get carried away on the kid. I know what you mean about the attitude. He looks firey and confident. Always a good addition to the squad, especially with a guy like Brice moving on. Carolina always needs players like that. Can't have Enzo and Cass calling us SAWFT.

Forgot the kids name, ended up a Mich but he told every coach he visited he was coming. Butter's dad said it was so.

You talking about Roe and MSU? Or the big white kid that ended up at Michigan, McGary I think his name was?

I also notice that Jones said Berry was likely to go pro, along with Justin (with the usual caveat about having a good season). Clint didn't correct him.

Delvin Roe. Remember his Dad said he Checked Roy on the phone after Roe committed to MSU for coming at his kid inappropriately. Also said Roy was a liar and his kid did not committed in the locker room before the dook game.

No, it was McGary I was talking about.

in football recruiting...a verbal commitment..kid may/may not take visits..other coaches pursue until LOI..what matters is Ole Roy his ethical standard on the "silent"....

Crap. So should we be expecting 41 technical from him next season?

There's good attitude and bad attitude. Sheed had a lot of both. At the time his pouty attitude pissed me off a lot. Because that just wasn't how Dean Smith players were supposed to act. But later on I came to appreciate the good side of the attitude thing more. The chip on the shoulder (as long as it isn't too big) and the expressions of joy for the well-performed play.

Clint said that he was a bit surprised that Huffman hadn't already committed. He also said he believes it just a matter of time before he does. I'd love to see him commit and get the ball rolling. That would exert a little pressure on Stokes and lesser ranked guys like him to commit while schollies are available.

Unless Stokes just wants to stay home, I can't believe he'd choose Tennessee over UNC. BTW, he's now a 4* and ranked 60th by ESPN now that he's chosen to play basketball only. He is ranked 124th by 247 and unranked by Rivals/Scout. IMO, we really need this young man. I'd love PJ/Knox but I'd be content if Huffman and Stokes joined Felton and Platek in '17.

.
Clint also said Clifton said some stuff off the record about that, and I suspect Roy may be taking the opposite approach and is asking Huffman to lay low for a bit.

I saw you allude to this the other day. Why do you think he would do that? Waiting to see if a higher ranked recruit commits? Seem a dangerous game to play, if true. Personally, my gut is that PJ is our only legitimate chance at a top 25 big man, but what do I know? Getting shut out on bigs in this class would be disastrous. I think the old "A bird in the hand..." adage is apropos here.

Arch, it was either going to be a quick announce after the visit or it would be timed a few days after late Night with Roy to try to get some momentum building for the kids that come to late night.

Huffman obviously wants to come here and Clifton (ironically) desperately wants the cred, so that's not much of a worry. I'll also say fairly confidently that Roy believes he's in better shape with certain Bigs than the analysts are giving him credit for, and leave it at that.....

Bamba is still a wild card, now I put the odds at about 75% that he ends up at Ky now that the Ayton thing is settled, would give duke about 15% shot, and us around 10% but not out of it just yet. Green seems to be getting closer to Syracuse, could they sneak in there for Bamba to?

Agree on Bamba. Cal met with Bamba early this AM as the fall eval period opened. He's prioritizing him and going to get him.

Expect Bamba to be a spring commitment and major factor IMO will be does Bam and/or Garbiel go one & done as it the plan. Also maybe what SJK can do and if he can go one & done, doubtful IMO. IMO spring commits from big men is not great for us because it says they are waiting on someone else to see who goes and who stays, they already know Meeks and Hicks will be gone for us.

Sorry, but not committing early is overrated as a sign of anything. Sure, it could be with a given player but it's just as likely simply a player with the luxury of choices doing his due diligence in his senior year.
Lotta assumptions being made ITT, BTW.

First off, what does ITT mean? Some times I get lost in your initializing !

I was referring more to this specific 2017 recruiting season and how it impacts our need for big men from this class. The ONLY possible mystery for our front court would be will Tony show enough to be one & done, outside of that there is nothing a 2017 big man can learn by waiting to commit in the spring. A 2017 wing like Knox, yeah, I can see waiting to see what happens. But telling ya, a 2017 big man waiting means he is wanting another program more than ours. That does not mean we can't get him, it means the program he prefers had after the season a guy or 2 that could be road blocks to starting roles and PT so the recruit goes to plan B. A 2017 big man that waits till the springs considers us at best his plan B, IMO.

gary, you know as well as I do, these kids already have their list prioritized. If they wait they are wanting to see who leaves and who stays, wanting to see who blows up or who has a less than expected season and is not a road block for their PT. If neither Bam nor Gabriel leave after next season then that is a HUGE problem for Bamba and if they do the door to all the starts and PT you want opens wide. None of these top 50 2017 kids have gone thru this past summer and decided to not think about recruiting until their senior seasons are done. They have thought about it, they have prioritized their lists, even if they have not made it public.

Agree with DSouth. For a big man in 2017 that wants to be at UNC, why wait?? You already know what the roster is going to be like. NCAA isn't going to magically give Hicks/Meeks a 5th year. It tells me the spring decision means they want to see who dook/uk loses to the draft. As for a wing such as Knox, I can see why he would wait if he wants to be at UNC because he needs to know if JJ is gonna leave or not.

ITT = In This Thread, BTW.

And it's all part of the process. Some are measuring, some just want to take their time with an important decision. You're reading a bit too much into it.
