CHAPEL HILL - UNC football coach Larry Fedora announced after Wednesday's practice that he has reinstated freshman corner back Mike Hughes on Wednesday and will reinstate sophomore corner M.J. Stewart on Sunday.
Both players were suspended for last weekend's 50-14 win over Wake Forest after turning themselves in to police regarding a situation in the hours after the team returned from winning at Georgia Tech on Oct. 3.
"First let me start off by letting you know I've reinstated Mike Hughes today and he will play against Virginia this week, M.J. Stewart will be reinstated on Sunday and he will play against Pitt next week," Fedora said.
What led to that decision?
"Based on everything that I know at this time it's the appropriate action," Fedora replied.
Both players' cases must still work themselves through the court system. Stewart's case in Thursday, Oct. 22, and Hughes' in is November.
"Oh yeah, they still have to go through the judicial process," the coach said.
However, whatever happens in court with the players could affect future status with the team.
"Possibly," Fedora said.
