All this talk of streaming services and how cool Led Zeppelin is got me searching around for some new bands to listen to. I'll preface it by saying I'm 90% a rock-n-roll guy; from all eras/genres... classic rock, punk, grunge, bluesy-rock. I don't care for country (even though Johnny Cash was a BAMF). I will listen to a little pop, jazz, blues, bluegrass even, just no country.

So if you got any suggestions, please pass them along.

Ok, I will extend an olive branch......

The Gaslight Anthem. Listen to the albums "'59 Sound," "American Slang," "Handwritten." It will appease your love of rock-n-roll, and you'll be able to impress your friends by telling them you are listening to a current band that doesn't suck.

And before you dismiss them because it's me posting, GSD likes them too, or at least the American Slang album, so there's that.

I'll give them a spin. Thanks.

Jack White has been high on my list recently.
I also like St Vincent a lot. Their lead singer Anne Clark nailed Nirvana's "Lithium " at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions last year.

Love Jack White. I think he's one of the few true musicians of this era. And on a side note, he adores Led Zeppelin - especially Jimmy Page. Did you see that special where he, Jimmy Page and The Edge played together? Was awesome.

Give Joe Bonamassa a listen. Great guitarist in both rock and blues genre.

I heard a song a week or so ago while listening to a Smooth Jazz Sunday Brunch that made me go and research the guitarist . . . . turns out he was the lead guitarist for Jefferson Starship, Craig Caquico . . the instrumental I was listening to was 'Sacred Ground' . . . if, you like a good guitar, go to Youtube and type in that song title. Geez, this guy is good . .

I like to listen to a lot of jazz in the earlier hours of the day, then by mid-day I go to a rock, and by 10 PM or so, I'm ready for some heavy metal.

Here of late, I've been going to the back of the rack, and pulling up some 60s and 70s albums and listening to stuff I liked when I was a teenager . .

Jake Bugg - very Dylan influenced, great lyrics and rhythms
Benjamin Booker - best new blues rock I've heard in a while
+1 on Jake Bugg. Song recommendations are: "Seen It All," "Lightning Bolt," "Trouble Town" if you're not looking to delve into a whole album.

I'll add Simple as This to the song list. That whole first album ... well, I sort of hate him for having written that at like 17.

Recently, I've been going back and forth between GWAR and Celine Dion.
I agree on Jack White. I am trying (slowly) to learn the guitar so I have been listening to him a lot. Old Matthew Sweet too.
I did see "It Might Get Loud" the other night on AXS for the first time. Great show.

Going to your post above. Have you ever seen GWAR live? It is quite an experience! I have a couple of times and I have the ruined clothes to prove it.

Yes. I've seen them a few times. Even better, I've hung out on the tour bus. My cousin is a founder of the band. He is the head of the Slave Pit - the artist that make all the costumes.

Their concerts are something else. I've seen them lop off Osama bin Laden's head, have an epic battle with a TRex and go toe-to-toe with Mike Tyson. Incredible shows.
