Before the season I thought Luke Maye wasn't much of a player. I figured he may never crack the rotation at UNC, and scoffed at the people on here talking him up. I was completely wrong, and I couldn't be happier!!!!!!

Consider this a mea culpa thread for all of us who were doubters. I may have to name my first born son after this bad, bad man.

Power to you man.... every Heel fan is a winner today. Also sporting a little Luke Maye man-crush right now.

Count me in as well. Hand raised, hand over heart I gave the kid hell early in the season when he looked severely overmatched but he has worked hard, gotten comfortable and is absolutely an extremely important piece of our puzzle if we want to win the whole damn thing. Thank you Luke Maye for shutting me up! You the man.

I respect the peeps on this thread that are displaying man-sized cajones!

Where are the rest I wonder?

How anyone can still question Roy's ability to evaluate talent and develop players is beyond me!

Far fewer negative folks and naysayers around today. Bet they are out enjoying the nice weather....

Meeks had told Roy that Luke could ball. He is just so fundamentally sound and never gets rattled.

COOL HAND LUKE indeed!

Who is the best coach in NCAA in developing big men? Should not be any debate going forward.

As a Duke fan, I will admit I was wrong as well. Maye has turned into a very good player for UNC. While we had Giles, Bolden, Jeter, sitting on the bench Roy used his bench and developed your guys throughout the season and it paid off big time yesterday. As much it pains me to say it, congrats on the win and the final four.

Doesn't mean I'm pulling for you guys against Oregon, but I respect what you have accomplished and the job Roy has done with your team. :)

I was disappointed that a scollie opened up for him since that was due to a recruit turning us down that coach expected to get. I felt He was the face of another in a series of recruiting misses. Coach himself said that he asked maye to pay his way first year due to a scollie crunch. So i would hazard to guess that coach is to a degree as pleasantly surprised at luke's development as we are. Anyway the kid is a walking commercial for how the "intangibles" can elevate your game beyond your genetics. Well done LUUUUUUUUUUUUKKK!!!

Truth be told many unc fans scratch their heads every year over coach's use of his bench. Well it has paid off big time last two years. Thanks for the kind words.

May be your finest Luke avatar yet, JuleZ. Well done!

No need to apologize guys. I'm sure you are every bit as happy that Luke has prospered as his biggest supporters are. We're all pulling for the same team, despite our vehement differences of opinion at times.

I was not wrong. I have continued to support Roy's way of doing things (or at least reside myself to it) and I was never one that denigrated Maye or questioned his ability to contribute. I also never wavered in my support of this year's team or my belief that we were one of few teams best positioned for a title run.

LOL......you got me. I actually went back to make sure that's NOT what I typed. I won't be pulling for you, but that doesn't mean I can't respect what you guys have accomplished going to the final four 2 years in a row now.

Waiting for the next time he doesn't play well.

I was initially skeptical at how much burn Luke was getting earlier in the year - but that PT has paid dividends and then some.

Not to wish away the next week - but a starting front court of Luke and Tony might be one of the best, if not the best, in the conference next year. Who woulda thunk it?

When I brought up way back on this board that we should recruit Luke , well I was pretty much given the message board version of a TAR and feathering and declared insane.

I remember those days '58...

I'd say since Luke camped at UNC, that he played against Kennedy (had to defend him) in HS, Roy already had insight as to Luke. And as Roy told Mark Maye long ago, be patient, don't rush him...
What amazes me is that in a state playoff in HS Luke defended Kennedy...sophomore on a senior and here we have it, the senior is graduating and the sophomore will be a junior.

That's OK,the only time I ever pull UK is when they play Dook and I despise as about as much.

Trivia Time folks: Who was/were the player/players that Roy was holding a scholarship for before awarding it to Luke? I read that he was not initially offered a scholarship but had to wait to see if one opened Or was it a Tar Heel that went early or transferred that freed up a scholarship?
