Ian Jackson Entering Transfer Portal

These kids don’t wanna Play for Hubert or in his cluster of a system…you could tell by their body language the majority of the season…I’ve watched some of these other teams in the tournament and they would run through a brick wall for their coach….doesnt seem like that at all for UNC!

He sat way too much. Big time players don’t want to sit and play 15-18 minutes.

Traditionally, UNC plays upperclassmen over more talented FR. That won’t work in today’s game. I stand by my statement that RJ coming back hurt Jackson’s development.
If he was super awesome he would have got the minutes but most of the problem is he’s not very good defensively

No excuses about NIL money this year we got plenty because everyone is leaving….What a terrible look for Hubert…I wonder if Ian will be texting him moving forward about how to get better…

What a waste of 5 star talent….
This is going to be our story every year as long a hubert is the coach he is going to bring them in and then he can't coach them or keep them.

It speaks volumes when a player that was going to probably be a starter next year transfers this is a coach issue 100%.

Im okay with losing player to the NBA i am not okay with losing key players to the portal.

I think RJ coming back was the worse thing to happen to Unc. Give ole 4 eyes credit at duke with Roach. RJ stunted Elliott, Ian, Drake, Seth and Cade’s growth, and forced us to play small ball. Lastly, it will possibly cost Hubert his job, with how recruits view Hubert as we move forward.

I'm disappointed with this one. Jackson's a supremely gifted scorer. Those guys aren't always the easiest guys to find the perfect role for. I'm reminded that it took Roy a while to figure out how to lose PJ Hairston and Jackson is a more talented player than Hairston is.

I think he can take a leap next season if he has some rim protection to mask some of his defensive lapses. He has some rare offensive ability that I hate seeing go.

I get how important defense and other skills are in basketball. But a lot of these tournament games come down to making a really difficult bucket against a fully engaged and locked in defense. Hell, Walter Clayton Jr is kind of the singular player for Florida in the clutch and they're playing for a National Championship. Jackson isn't there now, but I think he has the ability to score in those moments.

I also don't think he handled coming off the bench well. That can be a difficult adjustment for someone with his game.

Best of luck to him.

I don’t disagree but hold up even mentioning Roach in the same breath as RJ Davis. Good grief.

And while I do think it stunted Ian’s growth and maybe Drake and Seth to a lesser degree, LOL at including Cade Tyson in that thought.

It was just from a minutes perspective, by having RJ on the roster we were forced to go small. Cade would’ve had more opportunities without RJ.

This is supremely disappointing. He could have been our best player next year and certainly would have played a pivotal role. There's no portal player that can make up for this loss. I have no ill feelings towards Ian and wish him only the best; from everything I've heard he has been nothing but faithful to Carolina and coach Davis in situations in which most wouldn't be.

I said a few weeks ago he was gonna end up at St John's...still believe that. After he committed to us last year, I read about a very wealthy St John's booster in NYC who was gonna open up his wallet to keep Ian in the Big Apple...out of loyalty he stayed with us. Now I think he goes back home plays in the Mecca and will make millions while Pitino gets him to play d and let's him thrive on offense

Flip Ian for Wilcher?

Wherever he's heading, I have a feeling he knew he was going there long before he entered the portal. St. John's is as good at a guess as any.

Give me RJ Luis in return!

In his final game as a Tar Heel, Ian shot a wide open 3 off the backboard and tried about five times to force a fast break against multiple defenders. He was terrible. And he sat while UNC made their massive comeback that ended up falling just short.

He has such a promising future. But I'd be lying if I said he helped this team down the stretch of the season. I just wish he'd move on to the NBA, and not switch allegiances for a big paycheck from St John's or Arkansas.

I am neither surprised or upset by this, my looks at who we would go after in the portal or my looks at a potential line up for next season have not included Ian. Strikes me as a very talented kid but felt like a forced fit with us this past season. Seemed to need to be the center of attention but faltered when he tried to carry that weight, minus defender.

What got him on that nice run of games was he attacked mismatches off switches and drove them to the rim. But he started to rely more and more on his jump shooting, as he did that his production dropped off.

Since I expected this, I'm not too upset.

I hope we can keep Drake, though.

He seemed to develop a little better, and also to fit Hubert's scheme better (although that's hard to tell). I'm hoping that translates into a desire to come back.
