He hasn’t officially committed to anyone as of yet. but most likely it will be SJ as they just gained a prediction.
What's sad is that could be what actually happened, but I guess we will never know the inside details. Jackson was an offensive beast at his best but if the 3 was not falling and we could not get into transition play he did not contribute much in the other areas. If he plays with a chip on his shoulder and puts some effort into improving in those other areas and can gain a bit of consistency on offense he will be a stud. If not he gets a late draft slot as a project pick.
Yeah, On3 showed him to SJ but after starting this thread I noticed that 247 just showed him 100% to SJ. On3 now shows 100%, as well. So not official yet, I guess..
Meanwhile, On3 is now showing Wilcher in the portal. So I guess he thinks it's for real.
Wilcher started a lot for SJ but never lived up to his billing out of HS. I wonder where he'll land? I thought he looked like the real deal in his HS clips.
Pitino has a good reputation (as a coach, if not other things). I wonder if that hurts Wilcher's chances of landing at a top school? On the theory that coaches may think "If Pitino couldn't turn him into a star in 2 years, why should I spend a scholarship and NIL on him?"
Cappy Jack, very interesting guy to discuss. I go back to the start of that 7 game break out for Jack and I look at what he did that allowed for his break out and why that break out came to a rather sudden stop? From what I saw, what ignited Jack, what got him going was he getting big men isolated on him and drove them to the cup with that great first step and cross over and finishing at the rim. Jack started to see the ball go thru the hole and his confidence built even when he mixed in the jump shots, helped by the fact that defenders had to honor his ability to drive them so they couldn't close out as strong. But once you get on film opposing coaches break you down and adjust to what you are doing. They started really working to keep smaller quicker guys on him looking to stay with him step for step and funneling him in to shot blocking. So Jack began to rely more on his jump shooting, which is not his strength. Guys started closing out on his from less distance, those jump shots got harder, and all the sudden they stopped dropping at that ended his streak of big time scoring, as if his tool bag was now empty. You may have seen this differently but that is what I saw. I saw him end the season driving in to the teeth of waiting defenders, I saw jump shots clang off, I saw a considered 1 & D guy drop in the NBAs view. I saw a guy forcing things that just were not there and a guy to often lost on the defensive end. I do not think he was the solution at the 2 guard spot for next season.
Jack did play with a chip on his shoulders but that chip reminded me to much of Caleb Love, if it feel like leather it is my shot! I want guys taking good clean looks and giving it up if they don't have that, work for a great shot rather than wait for one to magically appear. I think the best thing for Jack is to stop trying to be the star and be more concerned with being the best player he can be, focus on the little things, do those and the big things will come to you, trust your team mates, Pitino may be a great coach to teach him just that. I like Jack, think he is a good kid, I wish him well at least as long as he does not play us but as with Cadeau leaving could well be a win win for both the players as well as UNC.

I thought all guard positions suffered mightily because of the issue with the front court. In fact, as soon as I saw the amazing backcourt coming together(Cadeau, Jackson, Powel, RJ) but then realizing there would be no bigs…I said damn what a frk waste!
He needs the ball in his hands…Watch his game in HighSchool….He should have been starting at the 2 this year with EC….RJ should have been pushed out…

Lol...nothing BS about what he said, especially in hindsight....couldn't have been much worse.
I hate NIL but I don't blame any of the kids for leaving. If I had companies offering me more money every year I'd be tempted too. And I'm not a twenty year old kid.
I don't think having the 2nd leading scorer in school history on the team was a liability. We're going to see how just much his contributions mattered next year, when he's gone.
No way you you push out the POY unless you are damn sure his replacement will be as good or better.
Rick Pinto just did it…Let’s see how it works out for him…I have always felt no 1 player should be bigger than the program and the Coach has to set the culture….I don’t know if Hubert has been able to do that…
How was RJ bigger than the program or treated that way? And what did anyone on our team show you or much less prove to you that they could score consistently or hit fts? I would have loved to have seen Ian thrive but he had chances galore. Heck, he didn’t even play defense better than RJ which is pretty low bar. You’ve hit on it all year with the notion of coaching. I’d agree with that thread all day.
Would Ian Jackson start on the team if Powell returned. Probably not, if Drake stays, and Evans is our starting PG. He probably feels some kind of way backing up Seth at SG, I want a senior Seth to be starting, but I could see that being a problem to Ian.

In some ways Hubert did treat RJ differently, he wasn't held to the same level of accountability as some (I am being nice, you know I mean any of the other players) of the other players. Jalen misses a shot he gets pulled and sits for most of the remaining game, RJ misses 3 shots in a row and he stays on the court. It became a source of friction, I think especially with Cadeau.
In my near 60years of loving UNC basketball I have learned that when one great player is gone another steps up to fill that void and it may not be who you expect to step up but someone always does, it is part of what makes the college game so special.
Hubert did the same thing with Caleb. Some players seem to have very little accountability requirements which likely led to some locker room issues we’ve heard about.
Yes, Hubert did the very same thing with Caleb and that was a major problem, I didn't like it then either and said so more times than I can count.
Please compare RJ to someone that can shoot. Also wash would shoot foul then fall down. I think he has more to offer btw but we need someone to get it out of him.
And I do agree with your last paragraph. We just couldn’t afford for a full season of learning for some of the guys. Btw EC and Ian quit on this team. People can make excuses all day. Caleb was forced out imo. These two quit.
