I completely understand where you're coming from but I want to see how much Steere rises in the summer rankings. I do think he can be a scholly candidate and he will rise in the rankings, just not sure how much. He's the #174 ranked player in 2018 and a 3 star. We just signed 3 bigs with an average rating of 163. Maybe it's just me but I would prefer we get some bigs a bit higher regarded.
Yeah. This kid may be good but before we start aiming at 100+ (or 200+) players, I'd like to see how the current experiment plays out. He's the #174 ranked player in 2018 and a 3 star. We just signed 3 bigs with an average rating of 163. Maybe it's just me but I would prefer we get some bigs a bit higher regarded.
Agreed. My biggest complaint about our 2017 recruiting is not the low-ranked kids we got - I am optimistic about at least 2 of them - and not the top-ranked kids we whiffed on. No, my biggest complaint is that we didn't go after those in-between - the guys from, say, 30 to 120.
One would think so.I'm sure part of the reason we didn't go after those 30-120 kids is that Roy really thought we would land 1 or 2 in the top tier. We all thought that. After all, it's Carolina and we have starting positions and lots of PT available in the front line. Seems like a no-brainer, right?
I think that's exactly what happened. We're simply not going to sign guys that consider themselves OAD. Both Roy and the fans should know and accept that. It has been demonstrated over and over again. But we waited so long for those top-ranked guys that by the time they made the wrong decision, we had to scramble for what was left. And we even missed guys in the lower rankings like Stokes (and initially Brooks).
I agree.I think that's exactly what happened. We're simply not going to sign guys that consider themselves OAD. Both Roy and the fans should know and accept that. It has been demonstrated over and over again.
So I think Roy should concentrate on offering recruits in the 20-80 range and offer them early. Let UK/dook/Zona/KU offer the OAD's. We'll build our team with very good players who will stay for at least 2-3 years.
Yeah, the logjam aspect has me concerned, too.If we hadn't filled up on 3 * bigs in 2017, I'd be less worried. I think he climbs up the rankings, but 2019 has a plethora of talent and we're in a better position for bigs in that class than we've been in years. We're already starting to look like we have another logjam situation on our hands.
I worry that the Bradley episode will be used against us by other schools.Oh, the irony. We're known for our inside/outside offense, yet we struggle to sign top 15 big men. I think the reason is that top 15 big men consider themselves OAD and we're simply not considered a "get to the NBA ASAP school". And I'm perfectly fine with that. But I hate to see us waste time on guys like Giles/Knox/Zion when we have very little real chance of signing them. An education and a NCAA Championship mean much less to them than cashing that first NBA paycheck as quickly as possible.
An offer from UNC looks great on their resume but that's about it. So let's quit wasting time on them.

It's just a question of how they spin it.How? Other fanbases always whine about how we have no OADs and claim that you can't be OAD at UNC. If a recruit actually buys into the spin of playing >15 minutes a game and potentially ending up a late first rounder on a National Title team into a negative, they need their head examined.
They should just go take the SKJ route at UK. Ride the bench for half your career and end kill your chances of being a high draft pick until your Junior year, at best.
It's just a question of how they spin it.
If Tony gets a nice draft pick, they say "see, he hardly played for UNC and had to leave for his talents to be recognized. Imagine how much higher he could have gone if he came here.)
If Tony slides to the 2nd round or worse, they say "see Carolina doesn't develop their players to give them their best chance or showcase their skills."
The problem is, that you add spin like that to the existing fog, and it might stick.
Duke's failures may be catching up with them, if you look at 2018. Of course it's early yet. You can even see a little slippage in 2017. The got Carter early, but the guys who waited (Bamba, Knox) went elsewhere. As opposed to going to Dook, riding the bench, transferring out after your 1st or 2nd year, and becoming a star at a different school?
Or going to Kentucky, having Cal actively recruit over you year in and year out, and end up the next Marcus Lee?
I stick by what I said. If you actually buy into that, but are willing to take the situations at Dook or UK for face value, you need your head examined.
I'm confused whether you are being critical of players who buy the Duke Kool Aid or are being critical of fans who see how the Tony situation can be spun against us.As opposed to going to Dook, riding the bench, transferring out after your 1st or 2nd year, and becoming a star at a different school?

Rumor has it, Steere has dunked on Huffman around 5 times. Sign me up.
^
And how many times did Huffman return the favor?
That is as meaningless statistic as any that exist.
It was a video from a charity game last week and he dunked on him one time. The kid is very strong and athletic but this dunking on Huff thing is WAY overblown.Source?

Can you imagine the heads exploding , because those heads exploded? Can you imagine the heads that would literally explode if we offered Ian and he accepted? A few of our posters would require straight jackets.
