If Kobe had went to Carolina.. the ripple effect...

I have never heard that Kobe was a UNC lean before now? Now, I did hear that KG would have been a Heel had he chose the Collegiate experience. That would have been crazy!

McGinnis, Stackhouse, Wallace, D-Wil and Garnett- They would have been scary good!!

I was living in upstate sc the time of the kg hysteria. Kg was from around there. I worked with a guy who's fam was close with kg's and was always flashing pics of them together at cookouts and such. He claimed numerous times kg wanted to be a heel.

I'll take "They Wouldn't Bump their Ass When They Land" for $1200 Alex.

I'd buy that for a dollar !!! and my addition is "If my aunt had nuts, she would be my Uncle !!!"

If , If and buts were candy and nuts we would all be well fed !!!!:D Go Heels !

I'm not a Kobe fan. Remember when Danny Ferry was a whiny b*tch and refused to play for the Clippers after they drafted him? Kobe did the same thing to the Hornets in the 96 draft. This 17-year old kid was making demands that he would only play for the Lakers and forced Charlotte to trade him...for 84-year old Vlade Divac.

Now, 20 years later he says he wanted to play for Charlotte, but they didn't want him in the first place. BS Mamba.

Bur-Heel, can you enlighten me with what was erroneous in my post? The only thing false in my statement is Divac's age. The Nets stated that Kobe threatened to go to Italy if they drafted him, the Kings were sent an ultimatum, even Kobe's agent concedes that he manipulated the teams so that he would not play for anybody except the Lakers.

OK, so best I can figure out about this thread is Kobe drank to much ripple and said he would have committed to UNC had he played college ball?

Wonder where he would have said he would have gone had he been drinking Boones Farm?

I strongly dislike Kobe. But, that's what I heard as well. I think Charlotte selected Kobe at the behest of the Lakers, who had already worked out a deal with them if Kobe fell to that slot. It seems absurd now -- but Vlade was an above average starting C in the middle of his career (he was 28) in an era where teams still built around big men and, at the time, not a lot of people wanted to take risks on high school kids. When Kobe declared, I believe he was only the 3rd high schooler to go directly to the NBA (Moses Malone & KG the year before) and the 1st guard to try and make the jump. At that point of time, even the KG people was pretty controversial. While I bet Kobe's people were doing things behind the scenes to try and encourage the Lakers, I don't think there was anything specific about Kobe being unwilling to play for Charlotte. I think they were just trying to put some of that noise out there to avoid having some random team (like Milwaukee) come pick him with a mid-tier first round flier.

As for which school he'd played at, I've heard him say both UNC and Duke at different points. I think, reality, is that Kobe was never going to college and never came close to making a final decision -- don't even think he took any visits. I think Kobe was set on making this jump from his jr. year on.
