If you weren't fired up before this...Marcus Paige story

That is just so dang awesome. I assume (hope) somehow this gets to each of our players.

What a cool, smart dude Marcus is. Reading this hurts even more that he didn't get the title he deserved. But I just LOVE how he articulated so eloquently what Carolina basketball is all about - family, tradition, winning, brotherhood, picking each other up - Sat and Mon - and then for the rest of their lives.

I hope the guys all read this today, and twice tomorrow, and it helps get them focused and on fire with determination and effort.

Did he say our defense isnt too good this year?
Well... just a friendly in-the-family competitive jab is how I took it.....

Marcus was an underrated defender, and Brice was an excellent rim defender I believe......
but you have to assume that guys have gotten better from another year of experience - Berry, but its especially noticeable with JJ, Meeks, KW when healthy, and Luke. I guess I'd say this year's team has been better, when comparing both teams playing at top level - such as the way Pinson and JJ and Meeks mostly contained Fox, Monk, and Bam last Sunday.

Fair enough. Almost thought he misspoke there.

Yeah think it was more of a friendly jab but also true. Last year's team was quietly one our better defensive teams in a quite a while. This year's team started out playing great D but has been very inconsistent on that end of the court.

Numbers for opponents (all games in seson (40 in 15-16; 38 in 15-17
2016 2017
Pts/game 70.0 70.6
FG% 41.7% 41.6%
3P% 36.2% 34%
TO/game: 12.7 13.5

Heels:
Tot rebs /game 40.6 43.7
D rebs / game 27 28
Pers foul / game 17.9 17.5

The numbers are quite consistent this year, vs. last. I consider rebounding (at least defensive rebounds) part of defense. In that category this year's team is slightly better.

I would agree we've been better this year closing out possessions with defensive rebounds. Last year's team ended up leading the conference in fg % defense, wonder how we ranked this year with a similar number. The numbers look similar but we did have that epically bad stretch in January and have given up easy penetration at times so I think inconsistent is fair. But last week might have been our best defensive game this year so I'm optimistic about tonight.
