Ingram Tweet...

If I remember correctly the 05 starters were
-Raymond Felton PG (similar style to Berry)
-Rashad McCants SG (pure shooter like Paige)
-Jackie Manuel SF (great defender like Tokoto)
-David Noel PF (versatile and athletic like Brice)
-Sean May C (huge body in the middle, great passer, finishes well at the rim like Meeks)
-6th man: Marvin Williams (who was a freshman at the time that scored well off the bench, could be similar to BI)

Lots to be excited about for Tarheel fans next year....

Not exactly right with your line-up. David didn't start, Jawad Williams did.

Jawad was arguably the best piece of that team. Amazing jumper.

Manuel was sg and mccants sf. McCants was an awesome defender. Used to strip the ball and take it for 2 a lot.

With all due respect, I have to disagree with a couple comments made in the last few posts......

"finishes well at the rim like Meeks" - No offense, I love Kennedy, but I would say finishing at the rim isn't one of his strengths

"McCants was an awesome defender" - Defense was the last thing Rashad was worried about playing when he was here. Extremely lazy on the defensive end

I guess more than anything I just want to make sure I'm not crazy in my analysis of watching basketball and our Tar Heels. And please don't mistake me for trying to be critical of our players or posters, I'm not trying to do that at all.

Dude, I highly disagree with you.

1. Meeks is an excellent finisher at the rim when he has the ball there. We are delusional if we think we don't have some of the best scoring bigs in the nation when they get the ball down low. Meeks can't get to the rim on his own. But, when the ball is dumped to him in position, it is usually a basket or a foul.

2. McCants was a dominant 1 on 1 defender. Go back and just watch. He used to stop the dribble on guards and slap the ball out of their hands for easy baskets on the other end all the time. He even did it in the title game against Illinois which boasted a backcourt of Dee Brown and Deron Williams.

I know McCants is a piece of crap, but anyone downplaying what he did on the court is just being silly.

Seriously, can you guys really blame this kid for struggling with this decision? Right now, UNC is under the NCAA microscope, and Duke just won the national title. Compare that however you'd like. Then add this to the fact

UNC Returning Scholarship Players
C - K Meeks
F - B Johnson
F - J Jackson
G - J Tokoto
G - M Paige
G - J Berry
F - A Hicks
F - T Pinson
C - J James
G - N Britt

Duke Returning Scholarship Players
C - M Plumlee
F - S Obi *(transfer)
F- A Jefferson
G - M Jones
G - G Allen

Look at it two ways.. You can go to an established team and be the new guy fitting in that COULD be the missing piece but in a minimal role minutes wise, or you could join a few other All Americans, get TONS of PT and play for the defending national championships.

If you say it's a business decision, then this decision is simple. You go to Duke, get max minutes and exposure. Also don't have to worry about much foul trouble because refs don't call fouls on K's team.

If you make this decision with your heart and you're a tar heel lifer as many say he is, you go to UNC, blend in with the rest of the guys, make the most of your opportunities and possibly make a serious title run.

Either way, you can't blame the kid for taking his time with this decision. If he has a OAD mindset, he should go to Duke, because it's almost certain if he comes to UNC, even though his offensive skill set is sorely needed, he'll be sharing time with that Jackson/Tokoto/Pinson rotation.

I sure want him. I asked a friend who's a fan of Duke the other night has K EVER recruited and landed a kid east of Raleigh. Sure hope this kid isn't the first.

I'm more inclined to agree with HuningtonHeel than I am with you but you make a couple good points. If I may:

1 - I too would not call finishing at the rim one of Meeks' strong points. His shot is blocked quite frequently. It's all because he has virtually no lift. I do agree that he's able to draw fouls frequently when he catches it low. And I would even say he deserves more foul calls than he gets. But he still struggles getting the shot up because of his relatively short arms and no lift. Good scorer, good footwork for a heavy guy, soft hands and great feel. Doesn't finish well underneath.

2 - I agree that McCants was an exceptional defender when he wanted to be. But he rarely wanted to be. Period.

@ EmJay . .

" Get TONS of PT and play for the defending national champions " . .

I have to think that Ingram would rather have an opportunity to be on his own national championship team rather than go play for a defending national champion. After all, isn't that the true wish of a college player . . ? BI would get enough PT at UNC and I believe Roy has already conveyed that message to him.

Oh, and BTW, Ingram isn't aTar Heel lifer as you say either, he grew up a big dOOk fan . .

@ HuntingtonHeel . .

Everything you said about McCants' defense was spot-on . . he was indeed a 'lazy defender' . .

TRUST ME, I know he grew up Loving Duke, re read what I said...

And I think it'll be pretty easy for K to sale that he can win it again with another small rotation and Ingram being the face of that run.

I don't think we can even compete with the amount of playing time he'll get at Duke, which is the beauty of our team. We have EXPERIENCED DEPTH, and very DEEP where he is rotated. He'll be a true 3 at that level, and Roy already has that covered. Duke on the other hand, doesn't have one.

And no, winning a natty tittle isn't the true wish of EVERY college player. Maybe so for the Psycho T's of the world but not so much for the selfish types. I don't know BI personally so there's no telling. I do see your point and hope your feeling to be true.

I agree that the comparison to '05 is a little over the top.

We forget that May was an all-time great college post player. He owned puke and stomped all over the tourney. Illinois were wetting themselves at the prospect of having to face him in the second half.

Loved McCants as a player-(just stopped defending him when he went crazy recently..regret every word now) but he wasn't a lock down defender. Roy benched him several times for lackadaisical D.

Right now Meeks does almost everything May did EXCEPT finish! Meeks can make an impact but he must figure out how to get that close in shot to roll in not out more often. May overpowered and went through the defender or over them. Meeks needs to get some of that ferocity.

Ingram will find minutes no matter where he plays, but here he could become part of a devastating team!

Heels are Family!

It's a Duke blue dot. Nobody tweets from their computers, the tweet is definitely from a cellphone, and on pretty much every cellphone on the market, that dot is pure royal dookie blue.

I think with the returning class we have, and all other things considered, Brandon Ingram would rather play for us than against us. But who knows what goes through the head of a teenager anymore. JMHO

Brandon's in-home with Roy/UNC is scheduled for April 22nd . . UNC was the 1st to get a scheduled in-home, and nobody is better at an in-home than Roy. Especially one where he has mom and pop already on his side . .

It's so hard to read Ingram. Some days I think he's a heel and other days I think he's going to dook. Man.

In the 2nd part of the interview, Ingram is now saying that the academic issue had a little to do with not comitting in November and was more so big time out of state schools came calling (kensucky, kansas, ucla) so he wanted to see what else was outside of the state of North Carolina. also stated UNC still sits well with him and that one of our coaches said the academic issue should be resolved soon.

I wonder what Ingram's GPA is now and what is his SAT score? I also wonder what he hopes to major in and minor in as well?

Oh, wait, he's coming to play basketball. Never mind!
