I've seen a number of people - both here and in the sports press - refer to 2018 as a weak class for big men. But I just glanced at the rankings and 9 of the top 20 - nearly half - are big men.

If nearly half of the top 20 are big men but 2018 is a weak class for bigs, then it seems like it must be kind of weak for other positions, too.

Just wondering what some our more knowledgeable posters think about this class, generally.

An interesting thing about the top-rated bigs . . . Duke is only in the running for a couple of them, and is in the lead for NONE of them.

As you'd expect, Kentucky is said to be in the lead or runner up for a lot of them.

To be specific, UK is in the lead or runner up for 4 of the 8 remaining bigs ranked in the top 25. UCLA and Maryland lead or are 2nd for 2. Duke and Kansas just 1 each.

While we don't have offers out to any of these guys, UNC shows up on the list for 2 of them: #1 Bagley and #12 Nazreaon Reid. Bagley is listed as "cool" toward us, but Reid (6'9 220) is shown as "warm" toward us. This clip is not too recent.

Quantity-wise, it's not a weak class. Quality is a different discussion.

We never offered Bagley and we're not getting in on him. We'd be wasting our time. Only 2 names 5 * names I've heard thrown around are Naz Reid and Silvio de Sousa. I'd prefer to take whatever interest we're showing in Zion and Langford and focus it on one or both of them.

The lack of offers to, not just them, but any bigs in 2018 is confusing, considering we're showing interest in guys like Ian Steere. Perhaps Roy is more interested in the 2019 class, which could give us 1 or more talented Freshman, and a few developed and experiened big men.
