So now I'm getting a bunch of ads for funeral urns everywhere I turn ...
Never too early to start planning ahead.
True story: A few years ago my wife had an uncle who died in Florida. He had retired in PA. and moved to Florida about twenty years ago. Anyway, he had no children and he loved my wife and had named her the executor of his estate. We flew back and forth to Florida to get things settled and my wife planned on having his funeral on a Saturday. We flew down the day before and went to the funeral home to make sure everything was in order for the next day. When we got there the funeral director told us that they had a problem getting the state to release his body and that he had not been cremated yet. My wife went ballistic and told him that she had people coming in from all over the country for the funeral. The funeral director told her to calm down that he had a plan. He said he would just put the empty urn out (he assured her that no one would look in it) and as soon as they could they would cremate the body and mail it to her. The next day we had the funeral with an empty urn and they Fed Ex'ed us his ashes a few weeks later..
