Saw a black bear foraging on the side of the 6-mile dirt road that leads to Bowman Lake Campground. I was driving. Obviously startled him, but he just ambled up the hill beside the road and kept looking for grub. I managed to get a short video before he disappeared into the forest.
Man @Raising Heel, I envy what you're doing. Those are some beautiful scenes you are observing. You didn't kayak any of those rapids did you? Also, are your pups accompanying you on this trip?
I only kayak flat water (lakes, oceans, etc.). No dogs, I flew here without them since they’re not allowed in the backcountry in several places because of bears, mountain lions, and other predators.
A ranger was giving a talk one evening when we were there and he said the number one killer of pets in the park were deer with babies. He said their hooves would cut a dog to pieces.
I recognize Saint Mary Lake. I had a poster. Of essentially that same view on my wall in college.
