CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke freshman guard/forward Cooper Flagg swept the weekly Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball honors on Monday, earning both Player and Rookie of the Week. This marks the second time this season in which he won both honors in the same week (November 25).
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are nominated by the respective schools and determined by a vote of an 18-member media panel.
Flagg was named ACC Player of the Week for the second time and Rookie of the Week for the fifth time. He is the first freshman to earn Player of the Week laurels multiple times since Duke’s Vernon Carey Jr. won the award twice during the 2019-20 campaign.
During two dominant ACC victories, Flagg averaged 24.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocked shots, while shooting 16-of-26 (61.5%) from the field, 4-of-6 (66.7%) from 3-point range and a perfect 12-of-12 from the free-throw line. In an 89-62 road victory at SMU on Saturday, January 4, Flagg registered his fifth double-double of the season and fourth 20-point double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, along with three assists, two blocked shots and a steal. In an 88-65 home win over Virginia Tech on Tuesday, December 31, Flagg collected 24 points, three boards, six assists, four steals and a shot rejection in less than 30 minutes of action.
