Jahlil Okafor involved in Boston street fight

Look he is just another in a LONG LONG line of DOOK punks, thugs and dirty players going back to Laettner, then Dirty dahntay, then Henderthug... thne Okafor and that punk Winslow, who will no doubt be involved in something soon I predict

Vader teaches these guys to be punks IMO just like the flop and the head flop and on and on ....Complete frauds there in Derrm.

Fans think they can say anything to athletes without repercussion. I lived in Boston for a year and there are far too many drunk ass tools running around popping off at the mouth. This will be a lesson learned for Okafor, but honestly I don't even really blame him.

I'm glad you left.

Okafor is the real victim here.

Ha, masshole feelings got hurt huh? How very Boston of you to think telling someone they suck is funny and appropriate. I don't care that Okafor played at Duke. Any loudmouth that wants to walk around telling people they suck better be ready to get checked. Walk around tomorrow and tell anyone you come across that they suck at their job and see what sort of response you get from people.

Defensive are we? The fact you think it's ok for a 7 foot NBA athlete to knock someone out for saying the 76ers suck (which they do by the way, 0-16) speaks volumes about you as a person. I hope no one tells you they don't like what color shirt you're wearing tomorrow, or you'll probably have to "check" them. Embarrassing

I don't know. If someone told me I sucked at my job I would probably just shake my head and walk away or something. Maybe say 'cool' or something. I'm not an idiot though and I don't really give a **** what random people think about me. I mean, this was stupid. He wasn't really trying to avoid it. He was talking back and talking about how much money he has. It was dumb on his part. He will now pay for it monetarily. Hopefully, after that he learns and grows up. He is still a very, very young person and like all young people, he makes mistakes.

I swear, some of you all will do anything to bring this back to K or dookies.

LOL, so just because he's physically dominating, that absolves the guy from getting a rebuttal? Don't throw stones and expect not to get some thrown back at you. Him being stronger than the guy does not mean he has to be above the situation. Besides, you think it was as simple as him saying a few words? When people like this operate, they're usually instigating and making the situation worse.

Look I don't agree with people calling out athletes or anyone at all and talking shit. However, as an athlete it's expected, you're a public figure and you're more than handsomely compensated for what you do. Kid needs to grow up quick and develop a thicker skin because like it or not, he is held to a higher standard. That goes for any athlete/celebrity.

A lot of the time it's hard to rise above it but you have to, whether you're famous or not you can't just retaliate physically. Whether right or wrong there are laws against these types of things for a reason. Just a stupid and immature response on his part but hopefully he'll learn from it.

This is just another example of a lack of maturity of these one & done kids who may be physically gifted and ready to compete at the NBA level but are lacking in the maturity aspect that it takes to handle things in the real world.

Sure, we can discuss that it would rub any of us the wrong way if some stranger came up to us and shouted we suck at our jobs. But the truth is most of us would dismiss such a loon for what he is, a loon that doesn't know what he is talking about. The truth is few if any of us have as public a job as Ochafor has where we ply our trade in a public setting and know a huge portion of what we do is on public display and thus know public commentary goes along with the deal. Part of those millions you get is to represent a team, to represent a city, to represent yourself as worthy both on and off the court.

Does this have any connection to the so called "leader of men" K and his dukies? IDK how much if any but I can suggest that the kid may have felt he was physically ready to handle the challenges he would face in the NBA but this incident does show that mentally he was not. Maybe the so called leader of men could do a better job of preparing his charges for the whole aspect of being a NBA player and not be so completely absorbed in what the kid can do for him and his own legacy.

I see the term thug used a lot now days and most times I don't agree with its usage but a star NBA player that can not take the barbs aimed at him for playing on the worst team in the NBA, for that player to not be able to take those barbs and move on, for him not to move on and look to end the situation by physically assaulting some randam fan? Well, I was always taught, sticks & stones...but words will never hurt me, guess they do not have that class at duke...

You think it is just a "coincidence" that all these punk/thug jerks like laettner ,D JOnes, hendothug ,Winslow all played at DOOK???

K has this absolutely PHONY and fraudulent choir boy image which he plays up all the time. In reality he is a foul mouthed F bomb dropping hack that teaches his players to be hacks and jerks . The evidence is all over the place for the last 30 years.

What did he say wrong???..they suck..bottom line!!...i guess the truth hurts..i wish he'd broke his hand from the punch he threw!!..#ihatedook!!..and he about to pay up $$$ for that punch..ha ha ha!!

Some of these responses.....just wow. I understand the dislike (and in unhealthy situations, hate) for Coach K and Duke, but he's a kid who made a very poor choice. Is that K's fault? His Dad's fault? Was it Roy's fault every different time PJ acted-a-fool? No way. Roy is a good guy, regardless of who he coaches, and it is idiocy to blame him to PJ's stupid behavior.

I know I will get blasted by a few of you for even bringing reality into this, but it is your board after all (cue the comments of why are you here, and leave, etc.). I just hope some of you guys seriously take a step back from this and remember that there is so much more to life than collegiate bball. This is one of those scenarios.

From what I have heard, there was personal, family comments that were made, far beyond "you suck". They were crowded by a group of people and felt threatened. Is that defense for swinging on someone? The law says no, but I highly doubt someone said "you suck" and he started swinging. If that were the case, he would have gotten into an altercation in his first game as a 76'er.

you don't think that the doochies tied EVERY single thing that PJ did to ROY?? OF COURSE they did OVER AND OVER AND OVER..... they had a f in field day week after week at Roys expense and the Carolina program too.
The shoe has been and is on the other foot and all we get from the doochies and their apologists on THIS board is excuses and excuses and more excuses.

BS.... these guys are punks and they are taught well by the "leader of men" Vader emperor of the Dark side and the biggest phony in all of sports

There is not one Duke player in the NBA that comes close to the character of Harrison Barnes. That should tell you something. A coach that teaches his players to "flop" is telling his players to lie.

I'm not sure if it was directed at me, but I sure as hell didn't try to connect Okafor to K/Duke here. You and jah think it's ok to haul off and deck someone for saying you suck... I wouldn't support that even if it were Hansbrough, it's just wrong.

As has been stated above, these guys get paid millions, and part of the responsibility that comes with that, is that you need to have a little bit thicker skin than to fly off the handle anytime a fan rags on you. Remember the malice at the palace? That was in no way acceptable, and even then it was after Artest got a drink thrown on him, which is even closer to reasonable than having a couple verbal insults tossed his way. You two, and Okafor, all need to grow up.

Not more than a couple weeks ago there was a dukie here telling us what a wonderful young man Ochafor is, it may well have been YOU cranky. Funny, don't ya think, nasty things are said about Tar Heel fans, coaches, players on YOUR dukie site and you don't have Tar Heels jumping in, yet let us say anything not spun as absolutely positive about your dukie fans, your coaches, or your players either current or former and up marches dukies like you to defend? Why is that cranky, how is it that Tar Heel fans allow your freedom to hold your own opinions on your site without argument and yet you & your buds can not do the same here?

You should read up on this guy named Luol Deng some time.

When was the last time Deng returned Duke to work with current players? It's a combination of factors Tra and Deng does not come close to Barnes. Can you provide me a You Tude clip of Deng promoting Duke? You see, Barnes does that to. Deng is a nice guy and stays out of trouble and that is good, but he is no Barnes.

It wouldn't solve all these issues but this one year of college is just bullshit. Kids tend to learn a lot of responsibility when they're in college and somewhat on their own for the first times in their lives. Now instead, they spend one year in college just to go and earn millions the year after. The NBA and other leagues have been a little more proactive in providing guidance concerning money and conduct but these guys are 18-19 year olds with all the freedom in the world and millions of dollars. A few extra years of maturity and responsibility could work wonders, especially for kids like Okafor and the one and done talents who have had scholarships thrown at them since early high school and have had praise heaped on them time and time again.

You reflect the university you attend and the team you played for. Even more importantly you represent your employee who is giving you egregious amounts of money. Time to grow up fast when you're in that position and a lot of these kids are simply not ready mentally and not mature enough. Duke fans who crucified Hairston over the rental cars incident should leave their holier than thou attitude at the door and realize that no one can control what these kids do.

The first sentence was not. Which is why it was not quoted under your response.

Its not even about them being a UNC or Dook player. Its about everyone acting so sanctimonious. Just because they get paid good does not make them saints or absolve them from issues. They are people with emotions just like the rest of us.

Did you even see the video? The guy was clearly in his face and talking just as much as Okafor. This was more than "a couple verbal insults". Perhaps you should complain less about Okafor's reaction and the other guy's intiation of the problem.

And yes, he'll probably have to pay. Unlike some of you, that'll be less than a scratch on his pocket lol.

As for the others still circling this to K and Dook, im pretty sure we were recruiting Okafor just as hard as K did. We recruit the exact same players and vice versa. Please stop playing holier than thou.

Not saying shit about this after PJ. We are basically talking crap on our own Coach and program when applied to both parties the same way.

Hark the sound of the pot meeting the kettle.

But the 76ers do suck? They are 0-16, I'm sure Okafors education at Duke would make him aware that 0-16 sucks

Did you even watch the video, or are you just blind? Even Okafor admitted it was dumb of him to do that. Your intelligence is on display in your ridiculous quotes here... And it's not looking too good so far haha

I don't know. Looking at the video, I don't see a full-on, get your arm back, put your weight into it, type of damaging hit. They all looked drunk and doesn't look like serious blows were thrown and landed.

Leave it alone.

But NBA teams need to, if they don't already, counsel and teach their guys that they are now millionaires in the NBA and very big, athletic people, and they have much more to lose than most, and they should suck it up as professional athletes if fans of other teams insult them or whatever. Walk on by. It's part of the job, and you are being well paid for it.

In this particular case, it doesn't look like the former dookie really went hard and tried to cause a lot of harm. However, the GM and coach need to educate him. You suck it up, take verbal abuse and walk away. You are being paid for this and a whole lot of money and part of that is dealing with things like this. Walk away from a fight whenever necessary. If he's not receptive, find a clause in his contract to dock his pay.

1. The NBA does give the new kids counseling on money management, advice on how to handle fan interaction, advice on making good personal choices and deciding who to "hang" with, drugs/alcohol/substance abuse, nutrition, the off-season, etc. They do it during the camps leading up to the draft and individual teams after the draft! They even use athletes that have gotten in trouble to talk to the kids in their own language. All pro leagues provide these things, but ultimately the kids make their own choices.

2. ratty DOES teach his kids to be annoying little punks on the court and even celebrates what he calls his, "a**holes" in practice! Some times this teaching reaches something in the kid's personality and they really blossom as full fledged buttwipes!

3. NO! A coach is NOT responsible for what his players do after they leave his program, BUT puke sure does turn out some real doozys! For every Luol Deng there is a Tauntay; and for every Grant Hill, there is a "Christian"

4. puke, UK, NCSU fans should be ashamed to EVER complain about what Tar Heel fans say about their programs after what they have collectively done for the past few years. How can they look themselves in the mirror after spouting such a stinking pile of hypocrisy?

5. Okafor needs to grow up!

i didnt, that was pj's issue.....Roy Williams has nothing to do with the actions of pj hairston...was it funny to see/hear just how he was screwing up and shedding bad light on you guys, yeah (in the sense of the rivalry).....but in real life, i felt bad for kid and hoped that his choices/decisions wouldnt ultimately harm him.........oak made a bad choice..one that could lead to something very bad in the streets...seems like it was more than you just suck.....hopefully he learns from this experience...

i have seen videos of deng talking about his time at duke and k and promoting duke...deng has spent millions of dollars in africa supporting people in his country....barnes has handled himself quite well thus far, but nothing close to the humanitarian things and man of the year awards that deng has earned...just because you havent seen it doesnt mean it hasnt happened...just youtubed a spot on dukeblueplanet with an interview with deng and how he learned so much at duke/work ethic...and how he and k still talk to this day and he mentioned collins and his family and the atmosphere that he enjoyed while at duke
