Joel Berry, will next season be his last for us?

Yep. Even though most teams drive me nuts a few times each season.

I became a Heels fan in the mid 1960s. It's hard to imagine a more rewarding team to have followed over that long time period. Is there one?

I wish my stock market picks were as good.

Yeah, seems like the older I get the shorter the season becomes and the longer the off season is.

I agree guys.

But it's been a while since I've been as excited about UNC football as I have the last 2-3 years though. I always looked forward to college football season and tried to make at least one home game every year but it was with the realization that we were once again going to be mediocre and have no realistic chance of competing for the conference title. That has changed recently and I am very eagerly anticipating the football opener against Georgia, a perennial SEC powerhouse. Our staff is putting together a fine '17 class and the future is bright for UNC football.

That makes it much easier to await college basketball season. I hope our football program reaches the point where UNC fans are just as eager for football season to start as they are for the basketball season to arrive.

Yeah, I think the thing with football is that the last couple seasons have been nice, think last season we all enjoyed for the most part. The excitement for football is not what it is for basketball at UNC simply because football is not a sustained winner. Even last season, as good as the regular season was it began with a loss that many took issue with, still hard to believe how we lost that game and the season ended in a flame out. What I am saying is the ACC is dominated by FSU and Clemson and even as good as we were last season it is hard to have us at their level. I think it is going to take UNC sustaining solid seasons and not slipping back in to that maybe .500 level we were at for so long.

With basketball it is very rare that we are not at least in the hunt, we should be in it hard this season as well. Expectations follow results, the longer the results re good the more expectations will be placed on you and how those expectations are filled will breed the excitement.

Just one of the reasons why I think we should play more games per season. Adding 4 conference games per year sounds about right. Or more. That also improves schedule balance with these large conferences.

Couldn't agree more. I keep telling some of the guys who complain about "basketball only" UNC fans, build it and they will come. Sustained success in football can only lead to more excitement and better attendance/support. If we'd had the sustained success in football that we've had for the last five decades in basketball and vice versa, we'd be known as a football school. I've always thought there's no reason a school can't be perennial top 25 in both sports.

Totally agree arch, football at UNC is not hindered by basketball, if anything it is helped because football players love basketball to. It is not as if we have second rate facilities for football, or that we cheap out football in any way. There is no reason at all that a school can not be an annual top 10 program in both sports.

But it is a thing of perception, UNC is perceived as a basketball school so the top footballers don't take the time to realize just how good our football could be for them. We are the sleeping giant and we ain't sleeping as deep as we have been, we are waking up! I sure hope basketball doesn't all the sudden begin to doze off! LOL

And has a way to go to catch up with Ty, IMO. Ty would probably be on the top 5 all time PG list for UNC, pretty rarefied air.

Keep in mind archer, last season was Joel's first as a full time starter. Consider Ty after having started a season and Joel after starting a season, in other words what Joel did last season as opposed to Ty's freshman season was pretty darn special, even as compared to Ty's soph season.

I am not going to get in to the ole who is better deal but to say Joel did lead us as our starting PG to the NCAA title game and the last time a soph PG did that for us was when?

Oh, I'm thrilled to have him leading our team Dave. But Ty was a very special college PG. IMO, Joel hasn't reached that level yet. I hope he does this year because we're certainly going to need him to be special if we're going to contend for the ACC and national titles.

Keep in mind Ty also had the keys from day one. I think Ty didn'f feel it was his team to his JR year. Joel knows this is HIS team now.

JB has the advantage of being able to show scouts that he can play with highly skilled players being at UNC.

JB is not the athletic PG that Westbrook or even Kris Dunn are so being a lotto pick is out the question, but if Marcus Paige who will be a PG in the NBA went 2nd round then I would say JB who was the starting PG over Paige would prolly be late 1st or early 2nd pick.

I see Chris Paul type when it come to Berry. Berry is a really good defender and IMHO will be an even better assist man this year.

If Berry can show a consistent jumper which I think he has, a 3:1 assist to turnover ratio he will be drafted and this will be his last year.

With Felton coming next year Berry almost has to leave. Felton is the real deal and could take Berry's spot or atleast his minutes if Berry returned (why risk chance of a freshman taking your minutes).

I love JB, but he's no Chris Paul.

There is ZERO chance that JB comes back and is supplanted in any way by Felton.

You were doing great til that last paragraph. NOBODY will take JB's minutes here as long as he's healthy.

Hell, I'd love to see JB and JF run together in the same backcourt but as you said, JB prolly ain't gonna be around for that to happen.

Well, almost --- Ty got the keys early when Bobby went down --- but you are correct: It took Ty til his Jr season to really assert himself and the team was better for it when he did.

The other thing is JB SHOULD have been given the keys from day-1 --- the team would have been better for it and he'd be even further along. BTW: I can tell you with certainty that a good number of our players thought that as well. Of course that's hindsight now BUT the current benefit from that is that our current team members have absolute confidence in Mr. Berry (as does Roy) so when we talk about it being his team we are not just hoping --- it is stating a fact.

I know he should've had it Freshman. However Roy trusted JP and remain loyal to him. Too bad JP couldn't return the favor by becoming a 6th man.
