Jordan Tucker transferring...

This happens over and over at duke. And every time, duke fans say things like, "what's wrong with kids today? Scared to compete for PT and scared to wait their turn." I agree that kids today are indeed like that. But why are mass transfers not happening at other schools?

I think it's because K clearly likes his best players better and treats them differently than the role players. Basically, Jordan Tucker can't do anything to help the K legacy. Bagley can. Carter can. So those guys get K's full attention and coaching. I think the bench guys get little support/encouragement/etc. from K and the duke staff.
I get wanting to throw shade at your rival, but try and understand the situation before you say something stupid. He was verbally committed to Syracuse, but publicly said that Duke was his dream school. Duke had a scholarship and offered it to him. He committed, stayed for a semester and saw that the playing time wasn’t going to work out for him this year or will it next year. So why stay? He got his shot and it didn’t work out.

lol

He got his shot? 14 minute tryout? Look, K is a great coach and the way he is is largely what has made him great. But he's an egomaniac that cares far more about what a player can do for the K brand and legacy than he does for the actual kids that play for him. That's been shown many times over. I know, I know,...you duke folks always have some excuse as to why Jeter left, or Semi, or Murphy, or Cycz, or the next guy. The possibility that K just doesn't give much of a shit about his benchwarmers couldn't ever possibly be the reason. But the fact of the matter is, K convinced Tucker to come to duke after he whiffed on Knox. Tucker foolishly agreed. Now, I doubt K was explicit in saying, "look here Tucker, I don't really play more than 6 deep so you better work really hard to beat out these 5 star recruits that already have a jump on you." Nah, K needed to sign him. Then he didn't care about him. And then he forgot about him. Tucker's leaving. No skin off K's back.

He actually didn't.......that's the reason he's transferring. We brought in a guy that Duke knew wouldn't help right away but might help in the future. Unfortunately, Tucker wants to play now so that didn't work out.

i agree with that...Bagley entering def nixed things for him imo...but it seems he would def get some time next season as the stretch 4
Looks more SF to me. Unless I'm getting him confused with O'Connell.

Just looked it up. Seems I have been confusing him with O'Connell. Easy to tell apart, but I just had the name on the wrong guy.

He wouldn't play in the future either because K isn't going to stop signing top 10 guys. He saw the writing on the wall. But that's not the point. You can't fault a kid for wanting to play. The fault lies in the bill of goods that were sold to him. I'm sure the K apologists will have some explanation for that too. But when it happens once, it's probably a reasonable explanation. When it happens twice, maybe that's just coincidence. But when it happens repeatedly, you have to figure that either K is lying when he's recruiting these guys or he sucks at delivering the appropriate message.

In what world is he playing over Barrett and Reddish next year? Then the next 2 top 10's (plus Joey) they bring in 2019?

80s shouldn't go to Duke if they want to play, it's that simple.

agree but barrett and reddish should take up the 2/3...plenty of chance at the stretch 4

So then what's the deal boggie? Just coincidental that duke got another 4 star player that's too mentally weak to compete for PT and doesn't want to wait his turn? At some point, even duke fans have to acknowledge that the frequency in which that happens is remarkable.

Yeah he got his shot. Show what you have in practice and in scrimmages, which it will never be good enough to play over what they have now. Zero chance he plays over Rj or Cam. So now he’s sitting there for 2 years with another likely loaded 2019 class coming in. Unless you are a big or a point guard with great ball control, you’re not playing the first couple of years unless you’re a top 10 guy. He went there for his shot to show what he has. He got that shot, what he has isn’t good enough to crack the line up. He played for his dream school for a semester. Now he moves on. Not that hard to understand.

I'm not a Coach K apologist when it comes to his lack of using the bench. In the cases of Semi, Bolden, etc. I feel like he should give those guys some more burn. This case is slightly different.......Tucker was basically told up front he was the backup plan to Knox. Even if K didn't specifically say the words, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out with this loaded roster he isn't going to be playing this year. He also has to know that Duke will continue to bring in top talent. He still CHOSE to come to Duke and now is regretting that decision......no harm done in my book, he has my blessing to go and I don't blame him. I just think it was his fault in the first place (not K's fault for taking him) and I don't believe K told him he would be getting minutes. He knew what he was getting into, but he didn't expect O'Connell to play as well as he has and jump him in the rotation.

Again, I'm not one of the Duke fans that defends all things Coach K, but in this case I think this one is on the kid. He chose to come to Duke knowing the circumstances (bc Duke had always been his dream school) and now he's choosing not to ride it out.

some kids dont want to wait...some kids get homesick (many that have transferred out, basically went back local)....some cant handle the pressure...academics...better guys in front of them and better guys coming in......nothing is being hidden imo, the shorter rotation is there to be witnessed, its up to you to do what you gotta do to crack the 7-8 man rotation..many different reasons..........ill become more concerned when its stars as opposed to guys that cant beat other guys out

Some of us understand why dook has the Kenny Dennard Memorial seat at the far end of the bench away from hewhomustnotbementioned. It is reserved for these type kids.

I don't know what Tucker looks like but I will never be able to forget about O'Connell since he looks like Hermie the elf from Rudolph.

The kid is smart. He's getting out before the FBI drops the Bomb. In fact, I suspect he was undercover for the feds. He got what they need, and now he is off to play basketball elsewhere. :D

Semi Ojeleye wasn't good enough in practices and scrimmages, then he went on to average 20ppg for SMU

Bingo.
And my, the rat sychophants are out in force ITT, huh?

Ouch. That's gonna leave a mark.:D
Not really. He’s a very talented player. He transferred because he didn’t play much in 2015... Duke won the freaking national championship that year. Who was he gonna play in front of? I’d say K made the right decision.

So stupid.

Semi did great at SMU....but it wasn't immediate...he didn't play for SMU until 1 and half years after leaving Duke

This is misleading. Being told upfront he was a backup plan insinuates if Know didn't go there who would have started there that Tucker would have filled his role and started there or at least played significantly.

He just got recruited over late with Bagley and that sealed his fate of not playing.

He was never promised Knox role on the team....just his scholarship. Those are 2 different things.

Good grief! I honestly don't know what is worse, having dook apologist come over here looking for sympathy or their excuses for why a kid leaves after drinking the Kool-Aid K feeds them.

I swear, I think some of you dookies would excuse K if he were to sacrifice a small child at halftime of the Super Bowl in the middle of the field on live TV.

Reminds me of that Game of Thrones episode.
