Keatts

So a program like State can fire a guy less than one year off of a final four yet we have to hold on to Hubert because....
Because this season was wrecked by lack of NIL, not the 2024 ACC Coach of the Year. UNC is focused on fixing the NIL problems, not the guy who earned a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

The he got into a dog fight in the NCAAt and Oats out coached the shit out of him.

Just stop he can't coach, I can't wait till they get players and you find out he is the weakest link like we been telling you.

The problem with your comments here is
it will make a difference just to be physically correct in size . He can be a subpar coach and if they give him 6 portal starters from other teams they will win more regardless

2 7 footers and Caleb with 4 steady players and what’s left could win 24 games with a cardboard stand up as a coach

There are teams in the top 5 with less talent than us. Hubert could've had a GM years ago but turned it down. Pick a better excuse, Schumer.

Didn't Moo do this same freakin' thing with Sendak? Coach had them consistently winning and they fired him only to suck for decades. Keatts doesn't have the perfect lineup either but who can they get that will do any better in the short term?

Most of you still cling to that false crap that a coach must be given soemthwer between 5 and 100 years to get all his players nd his staff arranged, and then you can judge him. Pat Kelsey is in his first year at Louisville,. The previous 2 seasons were the wrst in the entire history of Cards basketball. Yet Kelsey has the 2nd best team in the ACC. It took him less than 1 year to turn around a total dumpster fire. Bak before and after Payne was fired, people one the internet were asking why he ws being fired so soon, because it woiuodmbe next too impossibile out get a better coach at that point.

I would bet big bucks that Kelsey would have done the same for UNC in his first season: make real improvements. Moo can find such a guy this year. If I were Moo, my first interview would be with Chris Mack. I'd interview Will Wade and Richard Pitino.

Other names I'd look into carefully: High Points Huss, VCU's Odom, JMU's Sradlin, Furman's Richey. George Mason's Skinn has only been HC 2 seasons, but he knows the ACC area and looks promising. If UNCWs Siddle were not a Keatts protege, he would be worth a look.

He is getting ready to miss the NCAA tournament for the 2nd time in 4 years…This team this year has

5 Star Players——3
4Star Players HS and Portal——-5

And the returning ACC POY and yet we can’t even get the Double Bye in the worst Power Conference in the Country

How many of the 3 teams that finished above UNC have 3 5 star players on the roster…Not counting dook…

I will tell you….UNC has more than the 3 teams combined….Coaching and building a roster matters…

It’s all good because he is coaching for his job next year make no mistake and truthfully from what people that know are saying expect a whole bunch from this team to be gone….Next year could be 8-20 type stuff…

Going on a big March run when you're not the right coach is really dangerous for the program. I think it was in his contract that he automatically got a contract extension if NC State made the Final Four. I don't follow them closely enough to know whether he's a good/bad/average coach but if he isn't, then it's better to fire a year early than a year late.

Agreed. Look what Pat Kelsey and Mark Pope did with an entirely empty roster they rebuilt in 6 months. There are zero excuses for Hubert missing the tournament a second time in 4 years. The blame is at the feet of the staff.

Anyone ever looked at Louisville’s roster? 6 5th year players and 5 seniors..Kentuckys roster make up is similar.. Experience matters .. there’s a reason Pitino is talking about not recruiting High schoolers

I can’t understand why people defend coaches they know aren’t good like there is some rule that once you accomplish x you automatically get x more years. No one thinks either KK or HD are top level coaches and that is enough reason to move on. The idea that they could improve some is more a reason to move now than to wait honestly.

First time I have ever seen someone suggest getting to the final 4 was a negative for that program? Watch out coaches in the NCAAT, maybe you don't want to get to the final 4 or your school should fire you? WEIRD...

Would you prefer KK stay or be replaced by Wade? UNC rivals would much rather Hubert stay than be replaced by a top coach. That’s the obvious point.

My point wasn't necessarily a Final Four. Of course a program like NC State will take the Final Four regardless what happens over the next few seasons. But if you need to make a coaching change, a fluke NCAA Tournament run is really dangerous.

If Matt Doherty snuck into the NCAA Tournament in his third year and made the elite 8 or Final Four, big picture, would that have been good for UNC's program? I don't think so. They needed to cut bait when they did.

The Final Four wasn't an indication of the type of program Kevin Keatts had at NC State.

I don't care who NC State brings in, pretty sure they will bring in someone at least they believe will make the better. They can go do what ever they want, my concern is UNC. I do not think a coach deserves to be fired having guided his team to the final 4 the season before UNLESS it is some OFF the court issue. I as well would not fire the Louisville coach (just elected ACC COY) if he did not guide his team to the NCAAT next season either, for example.

FTR I am not defending Keatts but I am condemning Moo! They have a false sense of place and both Keatts and Sendak at least had them relevant! A Final Four run is one of the most special things in sports and should carry some grace. It should earn a coach at least another year and I contend time to rebuild if necessary!

Comparing Hubs to Keatts is silly to the point of parody! Anyone who would actually believe that allowing a coach to improve on the job is a bad thing might want to just keep quiet to preserve some mystery! That "logic" means that the sports world would not have DES, Roy, Or ratty to compare to!

Keatts did not have Moo relevant. Keatts had one lucky run to the FF, which came because of 1 lucky run through the ACCT. That team was not good enough to get an NCAA at-large invite. So it was not relevant. Just a lucky run.

Keatts was not fired just because of this season.. Keatts was fired because inn his Moo time he was at best mediocre while the ACC got weaker. This is the weakest ACC basketball have ever seen, and Keatts could not even get his team into the ACCT.

In 8 years at Moo, Keatts had only 3 NCAA teams. The first two lost in the Round of 64. Keatts' highest ACC regular season finish was Tied for 3rd. Next was 6th place. last season's miracle run through the ACCT total and into the FF was preceded by a 10th place regular season team - In a 14 team league that was almost a tweak as the ACC is this season.

What in that history suggests that Keatts ever could make Moo a consistent winner?
