.....I think Roy has developed a bad rep among top talent. Two one n dones in 12 years is hurting him along with reputation of playing experience over talent.

What you've just described is a coach who sticks to his system and doesn't sell out for the shiny new toy aka: OAD based teams. Now whether Roy has had to do this by default or if it's been a conscious decision I don't know, but he certainly has HIS way and it's one that most Heels fans would be happy with.

As for the bad rep.... is it really a bad rep or a rep which is unfavourable to bad people? He started Justin all year, Barnes started day 1, Wright played off the bench, still averaged great numbers and still went lotto, ditto Marvin. Butter waited till halfway through is frosh season then started, Joel B was injured but who know what would have happened if he'd been healthy.

So where is the "Bad rep" earned? Because JMM played off the bench as a frosh behind John Henson? Is that experience over talent? Or because the Wear sisters came to the hill and discovered they were really only back-up talent at best?

If there really was a bad rep then Justin, Joel B and Theo would have gone elsewhere and the Heels would have been much worse off for it.

And if the "bad rep" keeps some players away, so be it. It's the ones who do suit up for UNC that I cheer for.

But it's not the type of talent we've seen over the years. Zero OAD in those 5 years. Zero final fours in those 5 years. Zero future NBA all-stars in those 5 years. To me, it's a far cry from where UNC should be. At this point, UK, KU and Dook have the pick of the litter.

Having OADs isn't necessarily a badge of honor. Several others could've gone if they wanted to. Any recruit who holds against Roy that Barnes, JMM, etc didn't go pro after one year is a moron.

Hit the nail on the head.... Roy's monster classes which build the '12 team are being grossly overlooked. HB was the #1 overall player in his HS class, could have been OAD but chose to chase a title (sadly it didn't pan out) Ditto Henson, #5 in his class.
PJ was lotto talk prior to the suspension/expulsion. Reggie left unexpectedly, McD suspended....

All said, who gives a rats A$$ if a player is a future NBA all-star??? Don't we care about how the go while at college (and as students, not just OAD's)

Ed Davis. Many believed he would have been a lotto pick after his freshman year. He chose to come back for his sophmore year.

Honestly, Williams is better off coming to UNC because after this year, tons of players will be gone. And, with a year in, he probably can start.

And the one player we REALLY need a back up for is our best 2, Marcus Paige. Nate shot the ball better last year, but I can see Williams getting a ton of burn as our best option at the 2 off the bench.

Another shooter to add to the team and probably not a one and doner as well. Going to be quiet this week from alot of doubters. Tremendous pickup for the Heels which might just help UNC's biggest area of concern: perimeter shooting.
