Knox drops 40 and 20 in front of Roy

We are not very confident In getting Knox !! Roy has done a great job selling Jackson's role this year. He wants to be a three and Duke is selling him the stretch 4 . He likes the three better

I'm sure Dook encouraged him to visit since he'll be in town Saturday night and he obliged. Could be a last ditch effort or could be more but I'd rather be in our position since he gets to be in Chapel Hill Saturday night for the game and then on Franklin Street once we win. Also, should be plenty of alums at the game. Gonna be a GDTBATH.

He would have to come back 2 years for that since he's only a SO. Latest word I got, was that it is likely him & Allen are both gone unless they get terrible feedback at the workouts. If Allen is in the draft at all I think he leaves. If he thinks there is a chance he goes undrafted, he may return.

Like I said, he will come back for his Sr season.

We have some big time recruits attending also.
Obviously Knox
Felton
Huffman
Zion
Hamilton
Moore
White
Black

To the recruits already commited, get in Mr.Knoxs ear!

dook will likely try to sell him that he'd have a role similar to Ingram, but next year's team should be more talented than the one he "led".

We certainly do have some big time recruits attending the game. IMO, a convincing win in a very raucous environment would greatly enhance our chances with a couple of those guys. Leaky is very close friends with Hamilton and Zion Williamson, and plans to spend most of his time with them. Leaky is recruiting them hard for the Heels. Now the fans and the team have to do their part.

I didn't know Leaky was good friends with Zion. He will have 2 of his good buddies at the game then, with Jalek also.

I read on another site that Leaky has been very vocal about his love for UNC and has been very actively recruiting for us. And yes, he is good friends with Jairus and Zion. I like our chances of signing Jairus and if we could get a big win this weekend, we could just steal Kevin at the 11th hour. That would be huge for our recruiting going forward, IMO.

Back to Knox, I think he is a key for how our 2017 class is perceived, that may be as important to many of our own fans as it is to media and the ilk. Knox is a kid that is widely considered to be a one & done level recruit, and a kid that could turn heads back to us as a viable place for talent to play.

Kinda batted around the comparison of Knox and Justin, a comparison I don't personally like. Legit in as much as we want to discuss how Roy would utilize him but IMO not as much a great comparison to suggest he and Justin are the best player like comparisons available.

I see Knox as being much more like Tatum than Justin, let me explain. Justin is and has been a wonderful player for us but I have considered him, especially prior to this season, as more a finesse guy that looked to avoid contact. Mostly IMO due to the fact he needed to add weight when he came to us and to the fact that the high school leagues he played in were no where as physical or talented (private school league) as what he experienced day 1 in the ACC. I didn't see Justin over his first 2 seasons as being particularly really as physical a player as I think we would have liked at this level. Pretty well known for example that Roy wanted him to battle harder for rebounds, was as effective a defender his first 2 years as maybe Roy would have liked. I do think he has improved those areas this season but still would not consider those areas a strength for him.

Knox is IMO much more physically ready than Justin was as an incoming freshman and maybe even more than Justin was last season. If pushed in to a corner I may have to concede that Knox could be as physical if not a touch more as a frosh than Justin is right now. Don't run off hearing me say he is a better player for us than Justin is right now, that is not what I said, I said a close if not a touch more of a physical player than Justin. I see a much closer comparison to Tatum, who is more a physical player that likes to drive the ball in to contact and get to the line. Tatum can shoot it but that is not his strength, I think the same true for Knox, he can shoot but that is not his real strength.

I would see a combination of Theo and Knox as exciting, Knox will not hesitate to go look for that ooops attempt, very physical move that you don't often see from Justin, we all know Theo loves to find you for those. The interchanges on both ends, flexibility it would give us is exciting to consider. Justin is more a outside guy that more and more this season will drive but his forte is as a shooter. Knox is more the inside guy that can step out.

I do think that we will/would lose some of our shooting efficiency in the exchange of Justin for Knox but gain a more physical presence from the position. I do think the jump shooting from the 2 guard spot will need to become MUCH more efficient than it has been this season. Specifically I think Kenny and BRob have to really work on that aspect, and Jalek really needs to hone his in the coming off season.

Tell ya this much, a front court of Tony (who I am expecting to add a good bit of weight this off season), Huffman (very physically ready and aggressive), and Knox...That is a line up that will bang with ya and bring great size while doing so. Not calling that our starting line up but it is a combination I would love to see, add Theo and joel!

Agree. Closer to Tatum in strengths for sure. Knox is more physically developed and a bit more athletic than Jackson was.

I see K as selling Knox on replacing Tatum. That's appealing. Duke runs a 4 round 1 offensive (one big) vs UNC's 3 round 2 scheme. A 4 at Duke is the same as a 3 at UNC. That's why it was a head scratcher for me to see Duke get so many bigs. We see they are sitting on the pine for the most part so maybe that hurts them in the future.

I think Knox better aligns to Tatum than Jackson and think he selects Duke. I hope I'm wrong.

To be fair, we might be playing a lot of 1 big minutes next year. Knox has stated he is looking for the freedom on offense, grabbing the rebound and being able to take the ball up the court. We have seen Jackson do this a lot this year, and it's something Knox seems to be noticing.

It is not just when Jackson or Pinson get the rebound. The big men grab the defensive rebound and look to the nearest guard/wing to pass to, in order to get the fast break going.

FlaTarHeel & Bleed, you guys still feeling good about this one, even though Duke gets the last word?

When are the entry and withdraw deadlines for the draft this year?

I ask because I assume that will have a big impact on Knox's choice.

He's deciding in April so I doubt that will have a big impact. I think it's pretty clear who's staying and leaving at each school.

Should be by then. Looks like the early entry date is April 23, and the withdrawal date is May 24 (or maybe June 12).

I am pretty sure May 24 is correct since the combine runs from May 9-14. The deadline to withdraw from the draft is supposed to be 10 days after the draft combine (NCAA rule).

Yeah, I saw 2 dates listed but May 24 seems to be the one that's relevant for those who want to retain college eligibility.

Not sure what the point is of the other deadline. Anybody know?

Word on TDD is Knox is coming to UNC now I don't know how true it is but they are pretty sure he isn't going there even saying things like I want Duval over him anyway

Rumors floating around he told Duke today it's not them. I think it's BS but it's out there.

For some reason, I feel good about Knox but as close as they've played this recruitment to the vest I seriously doubt they told Dook today.

Well JJ just won POY, he has nothing left to prove in college. The smart and almost certainly the actual decision he'll make is to enter the draft. And I'd be very happy for him. Plus it leaves a perfect opening for Knox.
