easily the second best of the franchise after the very first. Returned to its roots of humor and a love story as well as action. Audience erupted in cheers and applause several times. Well worth it.

I'd ask if it was better than The Force Awakens, but literally anything would be better than that movie. Glad to hear they righted the ship with this one.

I was definitely a good movie.

I thought the part where Leia force pulled herself back in the ship was a bit much. Also, Yoda was the bomb.

trying to decide if i need to go today before i take the kids when school gets out...either way, can’t wait.

my favorite is empire, fwiw.

Watched it last night, going back tonight. It was awesome, and I do agree with the spoiler

I saw the original in the theater in 1977 as a kid, which is probably why I got hooked on the franchise. Ended up going to see it a total of 10 times. I have seen every one in the theater except for The Force Awakens, which I waited for because of the reviews. I have the box set on Blue Ray and I am sure I will get the complete set once they are done with all of them.

I haven't seen it yet, but plan to take the wife to see it over Christmas vacation, so please make sure to use that spoiler button like Grayhead did above if you are posting them.

Well all the star wars “affecionados” are disgusted. I posted my reaction on fb and got skewered by star wars geeks. I dont seen why. It is really diff in tone than force awakens but to me its much more similar to the very first. So anyway be warned if you’re one of those who’s really into the franchise u apparently wont like it.

Should people see the other star wars movies before seeing this one? What about that Rogue one or whatever, and are the prequels necessary?

I haven't seen the new one yet, but Rogue One isn't really necessary, unless you want to know why Darth Vader is raising hell at the beginning of New Hope asking where his plans are. The prequels are somewhat necessary if you want to know the story behind Annakin and Obi Wan. Phantom Menace isn't necessary at all. I'd say the rest are, though.

It won’t hurt to watch all those, but really, the only “necessary” ones to understand the new one imo are the original trilogy and Force Awakens.

Agreed. It really just comes down to how much of the back story you want to know.

And i agree with the spoiler. I cringed. And in all honesty the actor playing skywalker SUCKS. But what u gonna do?
You thought Luke sucked? I thought he was awesome, maybe my favorite part of the whole movie. I would also classify myself as a Star Wars aficionado and I loved this one.

I liked Rogue One better than the two newer movies. And I liked the Last Jedi, and the other one too.

agree...rogue one set the entire thing into another galaxy, pardon the pun.

saw it this morning, without the kids...still processing.

thought it was going in a different direction, for sure.

eta: somebody actually put each episode in a sequence that would make sense to all...can’t recall what star wars geek did it, but he nailed it.

@Raising Heel listed it awhile back IIRC

Episode order is the only one that makes sense to me. There's another popular one, but I don't get the logic behind it at all. Even when RH explained it, I still didn't get it.

Okay one thing that bothers me in all these films, with such technology and being able to space jump and all why cant the bad guys find land based armed personnel carriers that arent slow plodding huge lumbering top -heavy death traps? And why cant they use shield tech on them like their space ships have? And why doesnt anyone have gps?

Yeah, I read an article that was basically a long rant about the exact same thing. It really does make no sense.

I still think whoever wrote that article you linked in your original poast was drunk, threw a bunch of DVD's on the floor and decided to watch them in the order in which they landed. He then proceeded to BS his way through the reasoning behind it.

ETA: The only thing he's right about is skipping Episode I.
Oh come on. It makes perfect sense. You start in chronological order, but immediately after finding out Vader is Luke's father you go back to his childhood to understand how he became the monster he was. That sets up Return of the Jedi as a redemption story.

Not sure what the recommended order is with the addition of the other movies outside the original six, though.

Oh right, because it keeps the whole "I am your father" moment in tact without spoiling the major twist in the series. I got it, total brain lapse.

Still though, I prefer episode order, considering everyone on the planet knows Darth Vader is Luke's father, even if they never watched a single second of Star Wars.

Yeah that is always an odd contrast in these movies but like I tell my son... I just want to be entertained, so I try not to think too much.

when rey and kylo were touching in the force, and the whole buildup to that was going on, I was hoping that they would not twist it somehow to them being brother and sister. I think that would have spoiled the whole movie for me.

I also hope phasma stays dead. What a worthless spot in the story line.

Also, did anyone think Snoke would be dead so quick?
