Lauri set to visit the Hill

You make some good points, but I was looking at it from a different angle.

A lot of us have compared Theo with JP. Similar athleticism, similar skill set. But the sense was that he was somewhat ahead of JP in development. Theo as a frosh was looking more like JP as a soph. Hard to know if that's still true after the injury. If he has not been permanently set back, it seems plausible to think he'll be quite good.

Dmmmmmed all of the trolling. Get this back on topic please. Let us all hope that the system that actually won TWO National Championships in the last Decade will be a great fit for Lauri if he comes to UNC!

Nope, you're wrong on all counts.....again! lol
And if you are so confident, I'll bet you $50 Theo never averages more than 9 ppg over his entire career here. And to even get to that he'll have to have 15-20 pt games against the likes of Wofford and Fairfield.

What was I wrong about oh sage of all things bball. And where did I say anything about how much Theo will score? BTW: If Theo does average double figures, which is not far from 9, we are in for a great year! I said our offense starts with a secondary break with a big at the top of the key-how much of that was wrong? I said our half court set works inside out historically, but there are plays for wings/guards to option to the drive-where was that wrong? And captain obvious, of course it will be hard for him to get his career average way up because he lost an entire year almost to injury. soooo. I feel my self esteem creeping back up from when you punished me so, you bad man!

Ohh and when was the first time I was wrong on all counts-I don't remember your triumph, dude!

Very different games.

3 day visit, that's intense...esp with practice just kicking off. Any news on how his Utah visit went yesterday?

What are the differences you see? I thought my observation was pretty much the consensus, but I'm always interested in having details pointed out.
First, Theo and JP are different athletes.Theo is fast-twitch and JP is a long motion glider.
Second, JP liked to hold the ball. Theo seeks to slash and keep the ball moving. JP would have been better served attacking the rim more.

Not Gary here BUT why don't you at least WAIT and see how Theo comes back from his lingering injury? Comparisons at this point in time are very, very hard to make. After all, he is limited in what he can even do. Compare NOW? Really Wjwd???

If Theo fully recovers from his injury, he will be a significantly better player than JP. And that is not to disparage JP, Theo just possesses more skills. I am concerned that this is the second time he's broken that foot. Roy is being wise to bring him along slowly as he can be our best perimeter defender and is capable of playing multiple positions.

Agree completely on bringing Theo back slowly. We'll definitely need him down the stretch in the league grind. Theo is the perfect type of player to work back into the mix who can have an impact even in modest minutes.

Again, back to Lauri.

Confirmed that he gets there today, not yesterday. Wish we could have gotten him on a weekend or at least before practice started. Hard to compare college experiences when the other 2 schools get him the weekend of a huge FB game and the other for their bball event. Hope he can see past that.

I doubt that American football is more persuasive than Euro football...I would imagine the daily experience will be most valuable-he does no have the typical American point of view-IMO...being comfortable and trusting the coaches probably the deciding factors

Come on guys, what could be more important than a 7 foot recruit strolling through The Pit with Kennedy Meeks on a beautiful Fall day?!?!??!

Did we bring in any hookers for Lauri's OV . . . ?

Duke sent over one of their best hookers and this was Lauri comment" " Didn't think the United States celebrated Halloween this early. That ugly man dressed up in women's clothing is funny" .

So how did the visit go? Any news on what he did or who hosted him?

Boy would I love this guy in Tar Heel Blue! He would thrive in our system and be a match-up nightmare for opposing 4s on the perimeter. The shooting is great, but he also has driving skills that would be a problem.

Join the Family, Sir!

Visit is still happening. He's in CH through today then he flys out to Zona tomorrow.

Thanks. Arizona is a beautiful state, but doesn't compare to a nice fall day in CH. Hopefully LM will feel the same way about it. With the joy this team shows when together, it must be hard not to want to be a part of it!

So did Lauri visit Utah , then Chapel Hill and then going all the way back to Arizona? Strange itinerary with the time zone changes if that is correct.

There is going to be a huge difference in the manner Roy has gone about this and the way Miller will handle the visit. IMO, that is not going to serve Arizona well. But further, kid wants to be taught the game, he not only wants to play in the NBA one day but he wants to play there for a long while and for that to happen he needs to be ready.

What has Miller won at zona? Does the kid want to be on a team that goes deep in the NCAAT and maybe win it? Who best gives him that op, a coach that has done that multiple times or one that hasn't? He knows how Roy will work with him thru his father, that is HUGE!

I was just curious to know what he was referring to. This has NOTHING to do with his injury so I don't know why you think it can't be discussed until later.

You'll notice that Gary didn't have any problem responding to my question.

OK, I can see what you are talking about. And I definitely agree that JP was a glider. Fun to watch. But different.

I think we all agree that JP should have driven more. But I thought that was in large measure because he was playing sort of pseudo-PG out on the perimeter and often at the top of the key. If he makes it in the NBA, it will be interesting to see if he drives a lot more.

To your point JP was a "glider" and so is Theo. So he is going to have the same challenges as most guys over 6'5" guys with long rangy builds who don't have small enough (choppy) steps to get into the tight gaps in the defense. Both JP and Theo are essentially SF's in SG bodies. We've seen the exact same thing with just about every SG we've had that we've brought in since Roy's been here. To compound that, our half court set does not lend itself to driving opportunities for "SG's" because of the real estate our bigs take up. Yes, PG's have had success driving, but that has been because those guys have been really, really special and have quick enough footwork AND ball handling skills to create plays off screens to get to the basket. In fact, the common denominator with all those guys (and soon to be Paige included) is they are also thriving at the next level where no plays are called for them there either, they just have special skills that allow them to manufacture plays. So when you say JP "should" have driven more, if you go back and look at footage you will see that in most cases he did as much as he could to attempt to drive, but would get "stuck" in places where his footwork would not allow him to go any further. In most cases he just passed the ball back out and in others he would just attempt to pull up for a short jump shot. JP got very few opportunities getting to the rim because he just couldn't get there.....

Not Gary here BUT comparing players is always a very tricky thing to do. No two people are EXACTLY alike. Hence, not any two Basketball players are exactly alike. As far as YOUR OPINION being "the consensus", well, I really did get a chuckle out of that comment. Then again that is just me...

...and that my friends, was a big part of the issues last season. While he could make some nice plays at times in that role, too often it gummed up the offense.

I didn't even think it was possible, but I disagree with almost every word of that. o_O

OK, name one 6'5" SG that has been able to consistently get to the rack in the RW era here.
I'll wait......
WTF is up with you and "6'5 SGs"?
6'5 has nothing to do with it. But I'll bite. Let's start with Roy's first UNC SG, Rashad McCants. He got to the rack when and where he wanted to. In addition to that, Roy ran set plays designed for him to POST UP defenders, which he did with ease. Hell. Wayne Ellington was an underrated driver and took it to the hole as well as anyone. I could go on...

Now, just because these guys are well known as 2 of the best perimeter shooters in Carolina history shouldn't blind you to the other aspects of their games. Not trying to be an ass, but bottom line is your premise about the Carolina system is just dead, flat wrong.

Guy named Danny could also get to the rim when needed besides Wayne...Danny created a nice poster over in Derm!

Just echoing what a lot of people said and almost everybody seemed to agree with. Frankly, this is the first time I've ever run into anyone who didn't agree.
