We've had 2 hours go enjoy this Pitt win and I think that's enough.... Let's beat these DOOKbags (credit to another guy in another thread) like the clowns they are.. Let's beat them like they don't deserve to be on the same court as us. .. Let's beat them so bad that Ted Cruz disowns his own son ... I've never wanted to embarrass a team so bad ...Let's go!!!!

Here are my keys that I posted on the main board to try and get some feedback from some rival fans.

Whoever is on Allen-I am assuming it will be Paige but think Berry should get most of the minutes here. He is a good defender but obviously Allen can shoot over him. I think the key is forcing Allen to go left, though that is easier said than done obviously. They need to keep him off the FT line and hope he isn't hot from outside. If Brice is on Ingram JJ may be on Allen as well.

Jackson on Ingram-I hope he is guarding him. He did a good job on Artis and his length makes him a decent defender. He isn't strong but Ingram isn't either. I really don't think anyone can guard Ingram all that well. He is going to get his shot off most of the time IMO. I think he is just a tremendous player. My fear is Brice guards him and I think that is an advantageous matchup for Duke.

Those are only two individuals that really stress me out. The team as a whole stresses me out as I know there are more guys that can beat us but if we can limit those two I think UNC is in great shape. There are two other big keys for UNC's D.

1. Guard the three-IMO, UNC should only help off bigs or anyone that is inside. If they make a pass to someone around the basket so be it. We can contest many of those I think. I think Duke shots best off the kick so I would rather sacrifice a few guys shooting over our guys because we are giving them space to avoid the drive and kick rather than helping down to give up kick outs. I think anyone in a UNC uniform guarding a guy who is around the three point line should never help in this game, especially to help down on a big. It is a worthless venture that serves no purpose.

2. Offensive rebounds-This is a huge weakness for UNC. In the past, Duke has killed UNC by getting ORs and kicking out to the three ball.

Overall, Duke's spacing (which is always great) will give UNC problems. They have to limit the three and have their key guys stay out of foul trouble, which I know is probably also a focus for Duke with their bench.

On offense I think UNC really has to simply find ways to get the bigs the ball. Our frontcourt should have an advantage but the guards and wings have to do a better job getting them the ball. I think Duke is going to be reluctant to be too physical inside so they don't foul so if we get our bigs the ball I think we should have success there. If we get the bigs the ball that can create space on the perimeter for some open looks. The main focus for the guards is simply handling the pressure defense, which has been much better for Duke recently.

If Duke goes zone, which is possible, the key will be Brice operating from the free throw line area and our ability to penetrate and move the zone. Brice killed the Syracuse zone late in the game when paired with Hicks and I'm sure K is aware of this. If they do zone, I think he may actually go with a sagging 3-2 instead of what most people would think against UNC (the 2-3). I have no idea though as I don't watch them enough to really know what zone defense he likes to run.

Anyway, I'll be at BWWs here in Clarksville having a good time with friends (UNC, Duke, and Tennessee fans) so won't be on here.

Tremendous thread Cory fly but I also wonder who is going to cover Johnson because if Ingram tries he will foul at early. Also if Duke puts their center on Johnson then Meeks and Hicks should have big games. I think the game will be decided by Carolina's backcourt. If Berry and Paige and Britt can hit some threes Duke will have to go back to man to man. If Duke forces UNC to go small I say put Pinson on Allen and let the chips fall where they may.

I am concerned about dook's other three. Kinnard will drive and if our bigs go for blocks and foul him he is close to automatic at the line. Jones is about 40% (not to mention he is amazing) from deep and I am afraid he will be left open when we play help defense. Thornton has been inconsistent but has the type of game that has given UNC trouble in the past.
UNC has a huge advantage inside if they can exploit it. I think as long as the calls are consistent UNC is fine but if the perimeter see touch fouls called while assaults are allowed inside it will be a long night. Brice has to play under control and Isiah cannot pick up stupid fouls.

We'll obviously see -- but I would assume it will be Ingram trying to keep Johnson from getting too deep of position and then have immediate doubles crash in on Johnson as soon as he catches the ball. I don't think it's going to be particularly effective at stopping UNC from scoring -- as Johnson is pretty adept at making quick moves in the post and that will also create open jumpers around the perimeter. But, as a Duke fan, the hope would be that the doubles prevent Johnson from backing Ingram down into the lane and creating a foul as he muscles a shot over Ingram at the rim.

I do think we'll see a bunch of evolving zones -- including some 1-3-1 with Ingram up top. UNC's undoubtedly going to get makeable shots. The only question IMO is whether they'll make them at a sufficiently high rate. If Duke's going to win (which I highly doubt), they're going to win it on the offensive end. UNC is going to score 75+ points pretty easily.

As much as I hate it and as much as it shouldn't be the case, THE key in modern Carolina-dook games has consistently been the officiating. Whoever gets to the line most wins. I'd like to blow them out and moot that point, but we know what we're up against. Refs bailing out their ill-advised drives took them all the way to an ill-gotten championship last season.

On our end of things we need to attack them and attack hard. dook is simply NOT a good defensive team. I want JB to be particularly aggressive. When their teams played in HS, they tried Allen on Berry and JB took him to school. Now that Thornton is starting that will be the matchup and JB should take him to the rack early and often. Move their D, pound em with the Bigs and Jackson should have a field day if he's aggressive.

On defense, perimeter guys should never help down --- guard their kick-outs and keep Plumlee off the offensive glass.

I agree with much of the above. The key to this one is the kick-out game on both ends. We absolutely do not need to use help defense when they get the ball into the paint. Let Plums, or Ingram if he's in the post, or whoever go one on one with Brice or Meeks/Hicks. We don't need our guards/wings pinching down to help there. That would open up the perimeter guys for threes. We've watched that happen ad nauseum in these games before. Please don't let it happen again. We have the post players to not need to double team.

On the other end, they can't guard Brice and Hicks man up. They absolutely need to bring a double team helper to have a chance at containing Brice. In that case, we need to play the inside-out game and have Brice kick it out to whoever's man crashed down to help. Whether that be Berry, Paige, or Jackson - that shooter needs to make the open shots. Give them a taste of their own medicine in that regard.

We need Roy to have a good game here. We're at home, so a TO to stop a run isn't quite as vital as it would be in a road atmosphere, but still - if things are looking sloppy, don't wait until we dig too big of a rut to decide to call a TO. That, and please no funky lineups where we see Britt, Pinson, Maye, and James all on the floor at the same time. Substitute one, maybe two, starters at a time. We can't give duke 3-5 minute spurts where they can go on 10-2 scoring runs with the majority of our starters out.

Brice and Isaiah need to stay out of foul trouble, or pretty much everything I've said is bunk. If they're in foul trouble, we lose the advantage in the post, and may need to do the help defense on our end, and they won't need to help on D down low. That would also open up more need for multiple bench guys in at the same time, which could create a downward spiral.

Take care of business, and play even B+ basketball, and the Heels should win tonight. At home, and with the more talented team, there's no excuse to let this one slip away.

Doubt Roy will change his in game tactics. Help D in these games in the past has played into K's game plan. As for the refs, who knows.

Referee crew for tonight's game :

Donaghy
Luckie
Hess

What could possibly go wrong . . ?

;)

I hope that with all the attention around the Allen travel, and travel again, that the refs will be looking out to make sure he dribbles every once in awhile. That may be wishful thinking though

Roy will go big 75-80% of the game. He will only go small situationally like end of the game for FT shooting.

We need to guard that ball screen without fouling..ease into the game and no early 'stupid' fouls...We have the better team, and the best CBB atmosphere in the country! HEELS!!!
