So now we get to worry about whether Mack will find a way to bring in another weak assistant. As the TEs have looked good as a group, a weak TE coach would really hurt the offense.

What would be considered a weak assistant upon hire? We've seen guys with long resumes flame out, like the Miami OC who couldn't get to a bowl game. Or a guy like Ben Johnson who had never called plays before but makes Goff look above average with the Lions ranking 3rd in total offense in year 1 on the job. Fit/scheme/personnel etc all factor in.

Kitchens seems like a fantastic hire. He's coached RBs and TEs at both the college and NFL level, been the OC at the NFL level - seems like an excellent hire in terms of X&O's, hopefully he's good developing raw talent too. You'd think he could offer some strong wisdom during opponent scouting, scheming, all the other game prep and play-scripting stuff.

Did Chip Lindsey have much input on this, a sign of cohesion? And can he recruit? Those are my only questions. Oh, and can he coach-up pass rushing DL.
