Lineup for tonight

My guess would be Berry, Paige, Jackson, Brice, James. If not, I would say it would be Berry, Paige, Jackson, Brice, Hicks. I do not think Roy will go with the small lineup to start. Tulane has decent size in their starting post.

I honestly hope Hicks gets the nod to start. If he gains just a bit of court time in minutes played over the next two weeks the Tar Heels will be better for it.
Let Big Joel have his usual, we need him too!

Hopefully, whatever the case, Hicks gets more minutes... and at some points, we go small.

I'm really excited to see what happens with Hicks over the next couple of weeks. I think/hope it's the opportunity he needs to turn the corner and I also hope there is a "controversy" in 2 weeks about who should start between him and Meeks. I'm not saying I hope Meeks gets benched or anything because I don't like Meeks... just saying I hope Hicks plays so well that it becomes a fair question.

If Joel James starts tonight, I might turn off the TV. Not really, but I'll probably want to, if we're being honest.

I must agree with Cory fly here because starting James would probably be the best way to go. Hicks and Johnson would indeed mean more offense if they started together but then who would come in without a big drop off once they needed a blow especially if Jackson is also starting. May and James would not be the answer to the question. Hicks needs to come off the bench so that he can rotate with both Johnson and James. If Coach Williams was sure he could play both Hicks and Johnson without one of them or both would not get into instant foul trouble he might consider starting them both but we all know both of them pick up fouls Like dogs pick up fleas.

I'm sorry, but I am not thrilled at the idea of Joel James being a starter, especially considering that Tulane's isn't a very tall team (at least the guys that get most of the minutes). I think we are much better suited to roll with Brice and Hicks. The problem with that combo however is always going to be potential foul trouble as DUNK and others mentioned.

As others have said, I'm personally excited to see Hicks get some big minutes over the next few weeks. I think it is going to make us a better team once we get into ACC play.

I think Isaiah is going to step up in Kennedy's absence. He needs to focus on rebounding and staying out of foul trouble. He and Brice need to see 28 MPG while Kennedy is out. I think we win big and our reserves get decent run.

I'm annoyed about this. Hicks is the better player. Give the kid a chance. This is honestly why we struggle with recruits. I'll keep the rest of this soap box to myself and enjoy the game.

on a small scale, this is the reason why we aren't the "cool pick" for the superstars coming from the high school ranks. we have a kid as talented as Hicks who can't get a start over sorry ass Joel James. Roy plays the whole thing up about how we are a good destination for one and dones and kids that want to come in and play immediately, however, his lineups show otherwise. proof is in the lineups. and I don't want to hear the excuse, well Hicks will get his minutes whether he starts or not. you reward production over fill in the blank reason to start joel james because there is no logical reason. only reason being hes a senior and he's breathing.

and you can't tell me Hicks plays defense any worse than Joel James. he's good for 2 fouls a game for completely running into somebody trying to hedge a screen at the top of the key. he's also good for at least 2 lost defensive rebounds per game because he plays like his fingers are stuck together.

Basically what I was saying. It's an opportunity to turn a kid that just needs some confidence loose and instead, eh, no, let's play our least talented rotation player. Obviously James needs to play with Meeks out and I'm fine with that, but even if it's nothing more than a mental thing, don't butcher it like this.

Meeks is a much better defender than Hicks.
He is indeed Cory. And despite James starting, Hicks had a nice game and was instrumental in the win. He would get more minutes if he would rebound better. I remember he had 30+ boards in the 2A championship gàme. But you can't just jump over people in college, you have to put a body on your man. He has the potential to be a fine rebounder if he'll learn that.

Yeah, I thought Hicks did a nice job. He still had 1 rebound while James had 7 but he certainly offers things Joel does not. His rebounding issues are more cerebral IMO. His effort is there but he has to learn how to rebound at this level (like you said).

Yeah Cory, rebounding is about feel and the ability to read and react to the situation in split second. Best rebounder I have ever watched was Rodman, absolute freak and stood only 6'8" but he was a master at reading the flight of the ball, understanding what side and what angle the ball would come off and slithering his way to that exact spot. He understood not just blocking his man out was important but what angle he had to block his man away from so his man could not get to the ball and he did all that in a fraction of a second, masterful. I see so many kids now days will block their man out without any understanding of where the ball will come off the rim, we see that fairly often with our own players. Ya have to laugh when one of our guys does a really solid block out but blocks his man to the exact spot the ball comes off at, effectively giving the rebound away and blocking his own self out. That is a indication of not being able to read the flight of the ball as well as lack of communication from team mates.

No way James deserved to start over Hicks. Wasn't it Hicks who started down in the islands early last season against UCLA? I remember Roy sitting somebody for not playing D the game before in that tourney.

Hicks has outscored the starting Center 25 to 8 over the last two games. 11 to nothing from the line.
