Best of luck to him. I really hate to see him go to another ACC school but at least its not in the Coastal.

FWIW, I saw this on si.com but still not on espn.

D-Double-Damn. Right out from under our freakin' noses, just as I feared. I guess I wasn't the only one that thought he was ready for a P5 HC spot. And all because we didn't have the cojones to take a chance. Words can't express how disappointed I am in our administration and our AD.

Selfishly, I was hoping he’d get a decent non-P5 job, prove himself there, and be ready to take over in Chapel Hill in about 4-5 years when Mack has righted the ship and retired. Oh well.

If he's a good fit for the culture at Louisville, then we don't want him. Aside from anythng else, he wouldn't succeed here.

Agreed it is better for UNC that Satterfield be in the Atlantic than the Coastal.

Agree

If the Mack experiment fails, we will have squandered one of the best opportunities we will ever have.to have long term success.
I am hopeful that Mack will hire exceptional coordinators and everything will be fine, but what is troubling is that he didn't have acceptable people already lined up and ready to go.

Satterfield is just the ticket to remove the stench of Pitino and Petrino. We are ecstatic to welcome him to The Ville. His presser today was a breath of fresh air from the Mountains of NC. Thanks for picking Mack.
You're welcome, but we request a favor: beat MooU every year by at least 2 TDs.

we should have hired him here ..… n 5 yrs or so we will be hiring another coach
Mack probably secured an unwritten guarantee that he would not be shown the door before age 75, even if he has 4 consecutive teams that fail to win more than 6 regular season games.

This doesn’t rule out the possibility of him coming here in the future if he proves himself at L’ville. Nobody wants to play second fiddle to Clemson forever. If Mack completes the rebuild then we could try to poach him after Mack retires. Will take some serious cash but it’s still an option.

Why would he make a lateral move in the same conference when he was overlooked by unc from the beginning. That makes no sense at all. UNC had him in their backyard and chose to go with an aging retread of a coach in Mack over giving him a real look. Im sure he wont forget that

Because he’s never going to win the Atlantic unless Dabo leaves clemson. In five or six years it might not look like a lateral move. And if we offer him big time money then you never know. I didn’t say it was likely, but it’s not impossible.

Satterfield could bet the next Bear Bryant, or the next Bill Lewis. Still unproven. Carolina went with the proven commodity. Mack said he has one more run in him and I believe he does, so fasten your seatbelts.

I don’t see Satterfield as a job hopper. If successfull at Louisville, he may be there for awhile.
Agreed.

Unfortunately, agreed again. I’m still fuming about it. UNC would screw up a wet dream.

He probably would have been fired here within five years. I doubt he'll last that long at UL as well, unless their expectations are 6-8 wins a year.

Even if he’s an all-world coach, he would have struggled here. Mack needs to fix some systemic problems first. Until the culture change within the admin happens, no coach is really gonna succeed.

App is probably one of the best non power 5 jobs out there in football. Winning program and culture passed from Jerry Moore to Satterfield. They sell out almost every game.

Sure, he could. But he seems like a guy that would stay somewhere for awhile and not be continually looking for the next best thing every 2-3 years. It’s just my opinion... time will tell.
Let’s say he’s there 3 years and does quite well. A school like Michigan St comes calling after Dantoni retires. He gets $5MM per. Let’s say another 3 years pass and he crushes it at MSU and a school like Clemson offers him $7MM per after Dabo goes back to Bama.

Would you consider him a job hopper?

He grew up in Hillsborough. Mack did not recruit him. UNC has now passed on him to hire the old man Mack.

Not likely he has the warm and fuzzies for UNC football and would like to leave another ACC school just to help UNC.

For all we know he turned us down. He doesn't need the "warm and fuzzies" if offer him 5+ million per year, assuming he looks good at L'ville.

Again I'm not saying its likely. Just pointing out that this doesn't mean that he can't come to UNC at some point in the future. He's a young dude. L'ville probably won't be his last coaching job.

FWIW, I read an article that quoted him as saying he hadn’t been contacted by UNC. It’s a done deal now. Gonna try not to think about it.

Whatever....he has coached at appstate for 99% of his career. He will likely bomb learning big boy football in the ACC. He would he worse than Fedora...
