im the first to admit that I give Luke hell on here when he looks out of place but also man enough to throw praise his way when he deserves it. That young man played his ass off on a day when Meeks and Hicks were there usual Jekyll and Hyde selves. The tip on the missed free throw by Jackson at the end was a blue collar championship play that will be forgotten because we screwed the pooch on the extra possession but plays like that help you cut down the nets when it matters most. Hats off to you young man for a helluva day.

If we would have won that game, that tip out would have been the game winner for me. Props to Luke bringing his jock against a top 10 team. Like to see his D get a little better but that's just nitpicking he had a good game.

He is a matador on defense lol but I'm trying to be positive. He gave us about 100x more than he gives us on most nights. Our interior defense outside of Bradley is pathetic to be honest with you.

In fairness Hicks had 3 fouls 6 minutes into the game, I think its probably in his head at this point. Its frustrating because with his athleticism he could be a game changer on the defensive end

It's definitely in his head in some way. He has the lowest basketball IQ of anybody I can recall in a Tar Heel uniform. Some of the senseless fouls he commits make you shake your head and wonder if the kid has a brain. He's a senior yet looks confused on defense every time they show him in camera.

This loss hurts no doubt but Im trying to keep perspective. We pllayed without our starting 2 guard and most of the game without Hicks. To be where we were at the end shows a lot about the team. Ive been the first to jump on these guys during games but this wont be one of them. Besides that it was one of the best college games Ive seen in years so..

Agree. All in all we were there in the end. There's a lot more we can look to improve on like foul trouble, improved play from Williams/Britt whereas most Kentucky folks will say they just played really damn good specifically Monk. Great game. Disappointed we lost.

Best game Luke has played yet. Two 3's were huge and the tip out should have been what won us a game.

3rd foul was garbage, he gets a lot of phantom calls. Seems like he's a target, can't wait for that to turn around.

There's maybe some truth to Hicks getting a string of bad calls here and there. But truth is he gets so far out of position sometimes that he puts himself in position to look guilty if that makes sense. If somebody gets you on their back, tendency is for officials to assume foul nowadays it seems. Hicks is just bad defensively. No way around it.

3rd foul was a terrible call obviously, but the fourth where he didnt get back and let fox( I think) make the layup and then just grazed him after he made it was just a brutal play that cant happen. It was clearly a foul an only a few minutes into the second half.. at least put Fox in the third row and stop the basket if you are going to do it.

That 3 from Maye after the botched Dunk from Bradley kept this game going until the end. Took some cajones to shoot that while down 10. Almost lost the wind in my sails before that. Definitely earned some respect for this one.

BTW, THIS is how you start a Luke Maye appreciation thread

On air announcer got it right on air, with Hicks knocked to the floor, player trips and a foul is called, as he calmly stated "that's not a foul, traveling maybe but not a foul"...
Saw Krusty Karl calling the Gonzaga game yesterday...
If we can keep our kids healthy, get Theo back, work him back in to rotation, we'll be at full personnel.

Unfortunately, it makes perfect sense. His defensive awareness is nonexistent. You would think he could understand that millions of dollars potentially ride on his senior season. He is only averaging 23.5MPG, very slightly up from last year. He and Kennedy combined to average 41MPG last year, and are averaging a combined 46MPG this year to date. That is simply not enough. Thank goodness Tony has played well or we would have been up the proverbial creek without a paddle.

The time is running out for Isaiah to prove that he is worthy of a lucrative pro contract. The difference between a 1st round contract(guaranteed money) and a 2nd or 3rd round contract is very significant. Isaiah has been productive and efficient when he is on the floor, but he hasn't scored a single point or snared a single board from the pine. Unless he can figure out a way to stay on the floor for 28-30MPG, it is going to cost him a ton of money, and significantly reduce our chances of winning a title.

Get off Hicks back... Yes this is a Luke maye thread, but people feel the need to criticize someone Britt, Meeks, Hicks it doesn't seem to matter. At least 2 Hicks calls were simply a referee expecting him to foul because of his reputation, not because he actually fouled anyone. Especially when he was undercut and instead of a travel you get foul on Hicks. Maye played a great game hit 2 critical 3's kudo's to him. Now quit criticizing our team. After all it's not like we can do any better were you or I to suit up.

One of the things i have learned in this life is if you do not stick your hand in the cookie jar you will not get that cookie but you will not get the cookie jar lid slammed on your hand either...What ya do depends on how bad you want that cookie...LOL

Maye proved to be what many believed him to be. An asset off the bench that can give you solid minutes against anyone. He gave us some points and rebounds when we needed them most and continued to have a positive plus/minus like he always does! He and Stllman are always in the right place at the right time, this consistency is why they always contribute!
