Mack restored the talent and enthusiasm to UNC

Mack seems to have repaired the financial end of things and has soothed the feelings that have sort of been frayed over the years. He has recruited well. Those are his strengths. At the end of the year some serious soul searching needs to be done to decide if Longo is the answer offensively. And the same for Bateman on the defensive side. There is too much talent on this team to lose to VT and just get trucked by GT.

The best Coordinators in the country, if presented with players who lack fundamentals, can deliver little better than mediocre, up and down football.

If my choice were to replace Longo and Bateman and keep the rest, or keep Longo and Bateman and fire the rest, I would keep Longo and Bateman. With no second thought.

google mack brown coaching tree.

there is no “carolina guy” here or anywhere…for me, i’d like to keep mack for two more classes(his first full class are just sophomores), find an o-coordinator that isn’t hell bent on throwing deep every other play, and keep bateman through those two years.

think about where the program was under bunting, then under withers, then after fedora went to the acccg, it was f’n bleak…they aren’t there now and this can be fixed with some adjustments…longo can adjust, he has before…a 9 or 10 win season is still there.

i’m usually not this rosy, so don’t get used to it.😳
Mack certainly is no Saban in that regard either. Just as he has not won Championships anything close to the talent he's had, he also has not produced a string of very successful Coordinators and HCs.

If we lose some of the alleged "studs", then, forget anything on the horizon. Clemson needs a good QB!
If this season keep tanking, it could end up setting UNC football back to where Fedora had it in his 2nd and 3rd years. The portal means top recruits no longer haver to stay at least 3 years while the team flounders.

And, why would they want to stay? Chapel Hill is a great place, but kids don't really care about that.

How long does it take to get fundamentals down? These guys have been in place for approaching 3 years.

Yes because before Mack orange bowls were common place.
They weren't common, but neither was the season, last year. If it had been a full season, with all the games, then it might have been different. And, 4-5 key players quit on the team and they lost the game. They aren't going to the Orange Bowl this year.

This is where NIL money comes in. UNC needs to make sure our best players get a lot of money. That will offset at least some of the pull to go to another school. The school seems to be doing a good job on the NIL issue. They need to continue to make that a part of the pitch.
