I am so sick of all these media morons talking about how the Atlantic is better than the Coastal. Really, three games today and Coastal won two. I believe the Coastal has a pretty good record head to head this year. Is Clemson the best team in the ACC, yes, but that doesn't make the Atlantic the best division.

GT over FSU
Pitt over SU
Clemson over Miami

6-3 Coastal so far this year, I'm pretty sure. And only Clemson and FSU have Ws for the Atlantic. In other words, Coastal is 5-0 vs. all Atlantic teams not named Clemson or FSU.

Bottom and middle of Coastal is MUCH BETTER than Atlantic. Uva and/or VaTech will finish at the bottom of the Coastal, and they would finish higher in Atlantic than moo, bc, Cuse, and wake. GT and Miami would finish ahead of Louisville on that side, too.

Through yesterdays games the Atlantic and Coastal divisions have played 9 inter-conference games. Even though Clemson and Florida State are both in the Atlantic division the Coastal teams have won 6 of the 9 games and the only 3 Atlantic wins were all won by Clemson and Florida State. Based on the facts the Coastal has dominated the Atlantic teams.

I saw yesterday that the Atlantic hasn't had a winning record against the Coastal in the past 4 years, and if the Coastal wins one more of the crossover games this year, it will be 5 straight. Clemson and FSU might be the two best right now, but beyond them, there isn't really a good team in the Atlantic.

the coastal is much better and I think it has the potential to be a lot better after some coaching changes ... UM / VT / UVA .......... can slice it any way you want but its all better for the ACC ... I like this conference

I'm not even sure that FSU is the second best team in the conference tbh. I'd like our chances against them right now

As you should because UNC is playing pretty good whereas FSU is really struggling with some young guys especially on the OL ... we look really good one moment and really bad the next ... a UNC win would depend on what FSU team showed up

Yeah what's the disconnect down there, George? Each time I've watched FSU, they look very good (like in the second half against UofL). But then they go out and struggle to put up points on a GT defense that's not good at all.

Dalvin Cook is obviously a beast, but if I may, where are your speedy deep-threat receivers? Seems like y'all don't try to air it out for the long bomb. Golson seems a bit timid like he doesn't want to make a mistake? I don't know. I think FSU still has the talent to rally and win out, if they put all the pieces together.

Jimbo and Dabo both could be major forces for another quarter of a century if they stay. I think Petrino will produce good Louisville teams.

But the Coastal has is the potential to be very sound top to bottom. Of course, that could change if UVA make another dud hire and Cutcliffe retires and this year is the future for PJ at GT.

The key is coaches. ACC basketball was made by a string of great coaches. Get and keep 1st rate coaches across ACC football, and ACC football will be as good as any in the country.

Couldnt agree more about the key being coaching. I fully expect UM and VT to make great hires ... not sold on UVA though. Cutcliffe is laying some groundwork on building that program ... wins, recruiting ... I totally think Duke could pull in a solid coach also. But I think the coastal has the potential to be consistently more competitive than the atlantic because there are larger schools over there ... granted they have shown improvement but I dont see WAKE or CUSE as ever really challenging anyone on our side so we will always have to deal with that. UL is down this year but they ((like us)) have a lot of younger guys playing so they will be inconsistent ... Petrino is already recruiting better there and will have them ready for next year. At this point we need UL to beat Kentucky ... same for Clemson, GT and FSU vs there SEC rivals. I think we can take 3/4 this year. So ya I agree ... with a heavy injection of new coaching, the ACC will have the potential to be very good and very competitive with any other league out there.

As nole and thn said above Carolina is playing well now, if we are able to limit all the silly stuff, like dadgum penalties, we were among leaders in the nation for not getting too many hankies, but as was said also FSU looks like FSU at times and then they go away for a short term...dang kids.
Statistically Carolina and FSU should put on a great game, with us hopefully prevailing as we lead in a few important statistical areas. TBH, I think we showed up a bit better statistically due to FSU playing down a shade or two.

UNC would beat FSU by 21+. Your defense is VASTLY OVERRATED. Yall offense would not have much success being they are very limited. Anyone notice MW plays better in games we're the underdog. I could see out offense putting on a clinic on FSU. FSU never makes adjustments same reason Miami should had beaten you at home then they lose 58-0 at home to Clemson. Yeah FSU looks very vulnerable right now. I think you would lose to Clemson. UNC, Duke, and NC State

Sorry I missed this THN11 ... our disconnect is that we have an entirely new offense ... especially on the OL and our QB. There is a lot of analysis done over on Warchant and a lot of it points to growing pains with the young guys. Some will play good this week, others the next ... some will miss an assignment a time or two that will really hurt us. We went thru this last year with our D .... this year our D is very solid but we just need our O to catch up.

I think Golson is afraid to make a huge mistake ... which is why he hasnt thrown for any INTs this year. There are quite a few reads over on our boards about our WRs being a problem this year ... wrong routes, dropping balls & not getting separation. Its frustrating but this loss will actually help these guys improve. I dont think we can beat Clemson but we can win out if our O plays a little more consistent. I actually dont care if we lose the rest of our regular season ACC games ... just cant lose to UF or the bowl game. FSU will be fine.

Lets not get carried away champ ... go and look at UM's 3rd down conversion in the 2nd half of our game ... that was the reason the game was close. We have stopped every teams run game this year ... held GT to -30ish below their average ... we we force teams to throw the ball and that make it easier to defend. The problem has been our O ... once we stop the other team we should be able to go down and put points up ... especially when we get in the red zone and this O has struggled. We shouldnt lose to the teams you mentioned (outside of Clemson) but if we play inconsistent then we certainly will ... its up to the young guys to focus.

Guys you have a good squad but who the hell cares how the middle of one side of a conference is doing. All I care about is who's going to win.
UNC is probably 3rd or 4th competing with Duke. Clemson and FSU are the top dawgs and yes you could win against either but it is less likely that you would.

Dude FSU is overrated. You couldn't be GTech, yeah I think UNC would expose you and I think Duke would beat yall.

C'mon, Champ. One, you are wrong. FSU is better than us 8 out of 10 right now. Two, your prose is embarrassingly bad...reflects poorly on UNC fans. "Yall offense"??? No offense, and I don't mean to come off as the grammar police, but wow, its tough to get people to take your opinions seriously when contained within egregiously bad prose.

PETA might object. Wufs are furry and less than human.

FSU always has an axe to grind with NC State ..... Im sure the boys are getting their asses kicked this week in practice so Im sure our intensity level will be up for the remainder of the season. See how we look against CUSE.

It's not your job to belittle people regarding their posting style. Why don't you shut up about that and stick to what you have to say. He gets his point across just fine. You can disagree with him all you want but you look like a little snob when you critique his writing.

So, better decorum is to tell someone to "shut up"? Screw you....

dook really? they have played NOBODY and I mean nobody. Get back to me when they win a significant game. So how long have Clem fans been suckin' dook azzz????

Yeah feel free to settle the F down with your tone, gridiron. You come off like a politician shouting over someone in a debate.

And telling someone to "settle the F down" is any different, just in what way?

Not nasty in any way, I posted a respectful, constructive criticism of a post which is embarrassing to be representative of a UNC fan. Particularly in light of an environment where my alma mater has been and is being slammed for academic improprieties. Maybe you 3 guys are just fans, I don't know....but the UNC brand and rep is important to me.

Upon that post I've been attacked personally, been told to "shut up", called a " politician", and worst, called a Wolpfack troll. All patently ridiculous and personal slams. Hypocritical, to boot.

And yes, UNC Blue, Fedora is not a good game coach. Good program builder, seems like a good guy, too. Good oof the field. But a terrible game manager. 6-1 doesn't change that, although it sets him up to shed/fix the issue. ALL OF WHICH I'VE CONSISTENTLY SAID SINCE I'VE BEEN HERE. I stand behind what I've posted, every word. Not averse to modifying my opinion when sufficient empirical evidence indicates it is time to do so.

I'm an alum too. The UNC brand is important to me, but the day we start judging people for how smart we THINK they are (a Duke or stuffy Ivy League state of mind), then I will stop caring about the UNC brand.

The Carolina brand is just fine nationally, I assure you. Whenever people in Georgia learn I graduated from UNC they heap nothing but praise upon me and the school and are generally impressed.

Can we just relax and discuss UNC Football? You have to admit that your tone can be overbearing, especially when you get on an anti-Fedora roll. Constructive criticism :)

As a followup, I honestly don't give a crap where exactly UNC falls in the U.S. News rankings and all that kind of stuff. UNC is a great school and that's good enough for me. I don't cream myself when we pass up [enter school name] in the academic rankings or anything like that. UNC is a university of the people and for the people of the great state of North Carolina -- and I always want it to remain that way. If that means, at any time, entrance requirements need to be lessened (or raised), then so be it.

A lot of people slam West Virginia -- for example -- for its perceived awful academics, but it truly serves all citizens of that state by giving them all admittance if they meet certain criteria. To me, that's pretty noble. You may totally disagree but that's just my opinion.

With due respect to the soccer and basketball programs in the state of NC, Clemson isn't kissing/sucking anyone's ass in football currently.

Lol. I'm relatively new here, but is this a wuffie in disguise? Just a foolish post all around.

Yeah I don't know about us beating FSU by 21+.... It would have to be a hell of a bad day at the office for FSU. But I would like our chances, assuming the offense shows up early. I also like Champs optimism, we could use a little more of it around here.

^^^ maybe I should have read the entire thread before posting,

Big game tonight and I hate saying things like this, but this is our "fork in the road game". I'm not teaching rocket science here, but if we can win on the road tonight - look out and sky's the limit this year in the Coastal. Lose tonight - and we might revert back to our old selves. Maybe that's hyperbole on both ends. But that's how I see it. Really anxious for kickoff and winning the Coastal Division. We've laid the foundation. Let's starting putting up walls.

Beezer, I, too, am excited about the Heels chances tonight and what a win may hold as well as what a loss would mean. I know many who say "statistics are for losers" but they do tell a story. The Heels hold an advantage in several statistical areas that are a weakness for the Panthers...as someone said, hope Jackie Sherrill or a team of his doesn't show up! Just my .02, the Heels can win tonight, I'd love to see us soften their defensive loading in the box with a nice pitch and catch to any of our receivers. Do that 2x and look out!
