Meeks steps up big time

He played his butt off. 17 boards is outstanding, not to mention the blocked shots!

Fortunately the five second call didn't cost us in the end.

Well he was a beast on the boards and he had a nice tipin and I think he was OK from the stripe. Hicks is the one that was pretty much AWOL.

That seemed like a quick 5 seconds to me . .

KM had a great game tonight.

In addition to those 17 rebs, he had 4 blocks 2 assists, 1 steal, 7 points.
No doubt. Just part of how the refs screw the Cats every time in every way o_O

The senior had a couple of big blocks, stayed out of foul trouble, 17 rebounds, a hit he crucial free throws when they counted. No he could not get one ball in but with all of the other stuff he did today his overall play should not be remembered for that tough inbounds play.

agree he brought it while Hicks did not - thankfully Maye stepped up to fill the void of Hicks

Kennedy was HUGE in the first half. Besides the in-bounds mistake late in the game he was terrific.

I don't want to take any time away from the "Luke Maye For President" campaign but our senior big man deserves some love for the way he absolutely controlled the boards yesterday (17!) and also played some ridiculously good defense. Props to a guy that has had an up and down career.

Hopefully Isaiah's big game is next.

Meeks was, and has been a FGM (Full Grown Man) all season on the boards, and his best game came last night! Count 'em - 17, XVII, SEVENTEEN Huge rebounds to help propel us over Kentucky! Also added 4 Big Blocks, 7 points, 2 assists and a steal! Without his great hustle and determined play we absolutely would have gone home last night. Senior Leader, Kennedy Meeks is Tha Man!

Ref blew the whistle to start the clock, but hesitated giving Meeks the ball. I timed it with stopwatch. I think we still got 5 seconds before second whistle. But it sure felt too fast at the time.

For someone that everyone knows can't jump. (Well it's true) has got some of the best timing you can have to pull stats off like that. The big man really got it done.!!!!!!!!!!

Several of us, myself included, spoke of Kennedy as an "enigma" in the preseason. He had faded down the stretch in previous seasons. Gary attributed it to lingering injury issues, many did not agree. After seeing Kennedy be our rock in the middle all season long, it appears that Gary was probably right.

Kennedy has been our most consistent player this year and is very deserving of his own complimentary thread. There's no way we win the ACC regular season or advance to the FF without his consistently excellent play.

I think he moved into #6 spot all time total career rebounds for UNC. That is some pretty impressive company, if you look at the guys he just passed, and the few guys in front of him. He is a pure glass eater right now. Owns rebounds in the paint. Very underappreciated I thinks.

His block on Bam late was impressive, Kennedy has grown so as a player and in doing that he was patient, let the freshman gather quickly and commit, and BOOM, like a meathook on top of the ball, in came Kennedy, not today Bam. Not today. Mans game.
I loved last years team but dang this years team is as special. GO HEELS!

On the inbounds, it was a quick 5 as Cal and bench were barking their fool heads off for the call, upon review wouldn't surprise me a bit if it was Ron Groover on the call.

Tom, as I posted above, I do believe we got the full 5. Ref did blow whistle and then hesitate before giving Meeks the ball, but I clocked whistle to whistle right at 6 seconds which should make up for the delay. It sure "felt" faster, but I think it was on the money. And you know me - I ain't shy about speaking up when I see we got hosed.

Kennedy has now surpassed Antawn Jamison for 6th on the UNC career rebounding list. He also passed Jeff Capel to move into 33rd place on the career scoring list. Great stuff there.

Meeks has been awesome all year. He has been great for a number of years. He has always been underappreciated by many of our fans. He does so many things well and seldom has just a terrible game. We will really miss him next year. Hope he has two more good ones in him.

Truer words were never spoken. He seldom makes spectacular, eye popping plays so his contributions often go overlooked. He is crucial in our quest to close out the year with a title. I would love to see Kennedy and Nate end their four year UNC careers with a ring.

Spot on Arch, I may have actually coined the tag enigma for him, I think it was an accurate tag at the time. Very happy to see how the kid has played his senior season, he has stepped up as an outstanding senior leader on the court!!!

Those 17 boards vs Ky, MONSTER!

We need another big game from Kennedy against Oregon. And Isaiah, we need you to step up big guy. In fact, with our PG hobbled, the whole team needs to step up their game. I think they will.

Yeah, I see way to many folks that seem to feel we will easy beat Oregon and I hope we do BUT...That is the team that won the pac regular season, not UCLA and not Arizona. Brooks, Dorsey, Bell are serious challenges for us, we will have to be extra sharp to get past them, don't under estimate that challenge!

I'm certainly not one of those who think it will be an easy victory, Dave. We'll need to bring our A game in order to prevail. I'm worried even more since I read they play a lot of zone.
