Mr. Kennedy Meeks

Classic example. Kenny could have just grabbed that ball that he slammed out of bounds and that would have meant another possession. Bilas said as much. IMO, there's too much emphasis on flash and not enough on fundamentals today. The disappearance of the fundamental mid range jumper is another example. It's all about dunks and 3-pointers.

Uh, on the inbounds, what was it 8.9 seconds or so left. 7'6" wingspan low, perhaps force the inbounder to throw it longer thereby wasting 2-3 precious seconds...but yeah, most of us would have guarded the inbounds play since it was under their basket...

Tom it is a coaching decision made in the heat of battle. There is a trade off both ways, guard the inbounder and you may harass the inbound pass but remember, it was off a made free throw, in bound passer could run the base line to get a passing angle to negate the pressure if needed. Don't guard the inbounder and you defend the inbound pass 5 on 4 and you have the safety net of your best shot blocker back down on your end if they try to take it inside for the 2. The decision to not guard the inbounding passer may have been different if it were 3.9 seconds left but at 8.9 seconds the odds were they were going to be able to get the ball in bounds and a shot of some kind up so defending 5 on 4 made more sense. If you are guarding 5 on 4 and everyone plays their role, we should have the advantage, a crazy shot can always take you down. Of course I like the decision now but I liked it when Roy made it.

For the record my post was referring to Villanova not Tennessee! Hicks was supposed to close out on Jenkins and didn't. This was put on Roy's plate mistakenly by some posters. UT end game was handled perfectly and brilliantly by Roy. Just like TOs aren't guaranteed to stop runs (despite poster belief!) guarding the inbounder does not mean they can't get it in.

So absurd it doesnt even warrant a response.

Oh Yeah, totally agree, Hicks didn't pick up Jenkins, he was supposed to, that was lack of execution, that should not have been hung on Roy.

By the way, just to add, had it been in either the Tenn game or the Natty game last season and in bounds pass as a simple out of bounds and not off a made basket, then guarding the inbounds passer has more merit because that passer can not run the baseline and get an easier passing angle, had that been the case I still want Tony in and back down on the defensive end but I would maybe have had Meeks or Jackson guard the inbound pass.

Oh and in the Natty game had Hicks picked up Jenkins as he was supposed to it isn't even a given he would have caught the ball, much less had the time to step in to a rythem jumper, worst case he would have had to shoot over a close defender. Can guarantee ya Roy did not tell Hicks to go out there and guard air for the last 3 seconds, air didn't hit that shot, the guy he was supposed to guard did.
