NBA Playoff Thread

Where the F is Marvin Williams? My God, this dude has disappeared. Kemba can't do it all.

And "purple shirt guy" - thanks for pissing off D.Wade. Asshole.

NBA is so boring. I've actually watched more this season than possibly any other season in my lifetime because my roommate is really into the Hawks.

But goodness alive, the NBA is so dull. The playoffs are a little better but it's still way too many games. Why on earth is it best of 7? Do like best of 5 or even better, 3. So many games and they drag on and on. Between the cheesy piped in music and rap beats during actual game play and the nonstop love affair with the 3-pointer, I just can't do it. Plus, the players are TOO good, as weird as that sounds. It looks like there's no strategy. Just shoot and score.

It's not for me. Though I will watch the GSW - SA series.

Sucks to pass up that opportunity.

Clifford has a real task on his hands to lift them heading back to Miami now. I think the psychological blow of missing the chance on home court might be decisive.

Props to Kemba though. That guy did not deserve to lose last night.

Agreed. The NBA sucks in general, the playoffs are mildly interesting, but the GSW/SAS series is the one worth watching. The winner of that will beat Cleveland in the finals, who will roll through the east with no major issues. All the rest of these series going on are the "undercard", if you will - might be cool to watch for a little bit, but ultimately have no bearing on who will win the championship.

I concur. I have TRIED and TRIED to watch some of the playoffs, but gawd it bores me to death. First round should be best of 3, next round best of 5, and conference championships and finals best of 7. IIRC, it used to be that way, But the NBA is so damn scared of a top seed getting upset that they drag the playoffs out forever now.

LOL @ NBA.... you all know how this works, right? You don't even need to watch until conference finals as you know the final 4 will be GS, SA, Clev, and Miami (which the NBA will love to see the Heat playing against Lebron, don't you know).

Knew that going back to Miami would be too much. It had to be game six.

Credit to them for pushing a good Heat team so hard though, especially without a healthy Nic Batum for the majority of the series.

Think I'll be rooting for the Raptors in the next round... like Spoelstra but the Heat have some knuckleheads (mainly Whiteside).

Anybody care who wins the finals? I find myself pulling for Cleveland to finally get one.

Weirdly, I'm also leaning towards a preferred Cavs win.

I know they're an East rival for those who follow the Hornets, but I kinda want the Cavs to win this in respect of how good LeBron has been in the finals.

His game 5 and 6 performances were as good a back-to-back showings in any sport that I can remember. Just ridiculous.

I should add that I love Steph Curry, but he's just not been good in the finals. If the Warriors manage to limp out of another Game 7 on route to the Championship, it'll feel a little bit underwhelming.

A win for the Cavs, however, would be meteoric for how LeBron James is remembered in the NBA.

I'm kinda pulling for LeBron b/c you can see how desperately he wants his one. This is the 3rd time he's carried Cleveland to the Finals with a far less talented team and I kinda respect that.

Nothing against JMM or H.Barnes. Just kinda want to see LeBron get this one.

Also, I like Steph and all b/c of where he's from, but he's starting to act too much like Russ Wilson for my taste. You can't mix humility and arrogance and not ultimately get exposed as a tool. I'd rather he just pick one and roll with it.

I'm leaning towards the Cavs too, despite the Barnes factor. I like LeBron, and I think he's too good to have so many losses in the Finals. Plus, I think it would be cool to see him bring a title home after the whole "take my talents to South Beach" fiasco.

Don't understand why people hate LeBron so much, and I think it's stupid. He "whines" sometimes, big fuggin deal. Who doesn't? The dude wants to win, now especially, and sometimes frustration takes over. It happens to all of us. He gets calls. So did MJ, and his last made bucket of his career was set up by an offensive foul. I'll leave that one be. He'll flop from time to time. This one, I can understand, but so did Hansbrough. The dude is the best basketball player on the planet and a once in a generation talent. Just don't understand why people won't appreciate that.

Agreed.

I get why a lot of people don't like LeBron, but my admiration for his excellence has prevailed over all of the imaginable sub-plots at this point.

He's done absolutely everything for the Cavs, and even then it's only been enough to keep them in with a moderate chance of winning this series.

If he hadn't have been legendary, the Cavs would have been long dead.

I don't get it either. I think people just like to see stars fall back to earth b/c the general public hates to see someone "that good" succeed.

the whole "take my talents to South Beach" fiasco.
That's why I hate him. That crap epitomized what I despise about sports and about celebrity in general.

Right. I absolutely appreciate and admire his unbelievable talent. That doesn't mean I have to like him, though.

Good comparison, and I agree. He has built up a lot of goodwill over his career but he's making way too many withdrawals lately.

I'm honestly good with either team winning. I like Lebron, I like Curry, I like Barnes & McAdoo, I like Love, I don't actively hate Kyrie which is about as good as a former Duke player can get in my book. I think this has been a fun series, despite each individual game being decided by double digits, and I'm looking forward to game 7.

Also, I think win or lose, Lebron should win Finals MVP. Jerry West is the only person to win Finals MVP in a losing effort (he averaged 38 points in a 7 game series against Bill Russell's 1969 Celtics). Lebron has been the most dominant player on the floor this entire series, and in my mind, it's not even close. Honestly, even though they lost last year, he probably should have won it then too. Over the past 12 Finals games, Lebron has averaged 33 ppg, 12.3 rpg, and 8.7 apg. He has been playing unreal basketball and is the reason Cleveland is still alive.

That's another thing...

Kyrie might be the only former Duke player in the NBA I don't actively dislike.

For whatever reason, the usual subconscious-dislike-urge just isn't there.

Agreed. If he's the best player in the series he should win the MVP. And I'd love to see him get the award in a losing effort. With his ego, that'd drive him crazy, and he'd be thinking, I'm so great - if only I had better players around me I would have won it all. Then we could watch the fireworks in the offseason as he whines and blows up the Cavs and brings in a new super team with all new players. Would be fun to watch.
