A big point of discussion is who is ready for the NBA. Why might someone declare for the draft? One thing that is certain is that the risk is large if someone is a marginal NBA-prospect. I said NBA and not G-League.
I think Bacot is a prime example and made the right move especially in the current environment. He was always a marginal prospect in the current NBA. He would make a decent 90s PF but did we think he was better than Hansbrough who experienced minimal success in the league.
He did the smart thing of going through evaluation multiple times. Worked on his game. He became a very good and memorable college player who made a bunch of money in the process. He is now in the G-League..putting up good numbers but..it's the G-League not the B...C... G-League lol. It's glorified AAU ball. He probably end overseas and generate a bigger check than his current pursuit.
Who makes it in the league? Guys who showcase an elite skill along with many other attributes. If a guy is short or slow for their position, they are an elite rebounder, defender and/ or shooter. They have superior quickness or other things that counteract their "flaw".
There are twitchy guys all over the league but if you have no game saavy...you're just a street baller and will get exposed in the league. There are levels to this...
Watching a live NBA game early in the season versus after All-Star Break or even during a game 1st half vs 2nd half. These guys turn it up a notch and even some existing players who score 20 plus regular season barely break double digits when they start playing for real.
These guys are either freaks of nature or guys who have freakish work ethics or a dangerous combo of both. That is the lens that I am looking at guys who think that they are NBA-ready.
PLEASE...!!!! Stop reading the headlines... Stop listening to your washed up coach trying to ride your coat tail. He will be in a better position...you will not!
BTW I watched part of US v World all star game. They looked like they turned up the D a little but the overall product was trash!! I'll watch some more but feel like it will be waste of my time.
Somebody needs to get these guys ready before declaring they are ready for the big time!
