I say wbball player declared ineligible and season vacated

Post season bans and schollie reductions for mens bball and fball

Fines

-Scholarship reductions in men's basketball, women's basketball and football
-Post season ban for both basketball teams (I think FB escapes this because of earlier ban)
-2005 championship gone
-7 game suspension for Roy
-10 games for Hatchell
-Crap load of vacated wins for both basketball teams
-5 years probation
-Dolla dolla bills y'all

If they stick with claiming the classes being improper benefits then all players who took them would be declared ineligible.

Fwiw as i posted on radar my ex college roomie who works as a fund raiser for unc and is close to a lot of people there just emailed me out of the blue this morn. He said the mood is grim. Hopefully everyone is just nervous but keep in mind unc will get 24 hr notice before the decision is released. So they prob already know.

I'm guessing the improper benefits is what they are going to stick with, but that's going to be a hard hill to climb in court given some of the facts. I think we stand a good chance in court, however I'm not 100% convinced the court will agree to hear the case. It's not going to matter how good our argument is if we can't get a hearing.

I disagree with your predictions but for the sake of argument, if they "take away" the 2005 championship, what stops the university from still hanging the banner and still celebrating that championship. I mean, what if the school just said "f*ck you NCAA, we're still going to celebrate that championship"?

For the record, I'll still celebrate it. I'll still refer to Carolina's basketball program as 6 time national champs.

Not sure what would happen. I've always wondered that myself.

Nothing. They just have to take the word "NCAA" off the banner.

If that's the case I say take NCAA off the banner, but keep it hanging.
Agreed, but I don't think the NCAA is that dumb to try to vacate the title.

Them framing the classes as "impermissible benefits" is incredibly dumb and short-sighted and flat-out incorrect. If a court would hear the case, we would destroy the NCAA's case.

I don't necessarily think the NCAA would be dumb to do so. It would satisfy most of the media and rival fans if they did so. If we take them to court and win, then people are just going to blame the court. It's really a win-win situation for them.

It's not that simple though. It would cause lots of programs to have to completely restructure their curriculum. Lots of schools offer ~10 credits of athlete-only classes. They would have to eliminate those because the precedent would be set that that's an impermissible benefit.

I don't think any school would change anything just because the NCAA says it's wrong. They've been saying you can't pay players for a long time. Doesn't seem to stop it from happening. The risk of getting caught is too low for schools to change how they do things.

The pessimist in me thinks the ncaa has changed their mind about releasing at noon on fri cause its likely to be buried in the fri news dump cycle and wont get much attention. If its changed to mon u can rest assured they want the maximum attention possible and that we are indeed fuked up the arse with a red hot poker.

My guess:
- 2-year postseason ban in all sports.
- 10% scholarship reduction (rounded up to nearest whole number) for football, basketball, women's basketball, for 3 years.

That's possible, but I think this story would get maximum exposure no matter when it was released.

So you're thinking a ban even in sports where athletes didn't take the classes?

Yep. The NCAA doesn't give af.
That would cause the restructure you were talking about to probably happen. It would be unheard of for them to punish sports that had nothing to do with it.

Those with premium should go peep the "NCAA update" thread on Four Corners. It is..... not sounding good.
So you're telling me now is a good time to use the free trial?

I mean, I think they hammer us. Then we appeal. Then we go to court.

UNC hasn't even received it yet so not sure how anyone could be in a bad mood about it.

I don't understand how conjecture is "Premium" info. I'll pass.
I didn't say it was? I merely identified the location of the thread I was discussing.

It's not a guarantee a court would hear the case.

They notify the school 24 hours before, supposedly.

It's mostly conjecture. But enough folks participating in the thread are in the know, and it just isn't looking good.
I've been debating on using it. I would kind of feel like a douche for using it knowing that I won't keep it unless I forget to cancel it.

Right, but the Vice Chancellor has said they don't have it yet. So no one would know, right?

Serious question: would y'all take a football and basketball 1-year post-season ban if it meant the NCAA was completely gone?

I would. Enough is enough.

Same. I'd take it even if it meant the "1-year ban" in football doesn't take effect until we qualify for post-season play, i.e. not this season.
I would just pretend we had a down year in basketball, didn't make the tourney and we'll rebound next year. For football, well, I would just say it was just a typical season.
